Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite announced (PS4/XB1/PC), coming 2017

Marvel vs Capcom 4 seems kinda likely with Marvel pushing games now, it's also likely there's Sony involvement.

Apparently we're also getting a The Last of Us 2 teaser this year when Naughty Dog shows off the Uncharted 4 DLC.

Marvel and Capcom characters will duke it out in a new crossover fighting game coming to consoles next year. Multiple sources tell Polygon that Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is currently in development and slated for release sometime in 2017.

Capcom will unveil Marvel vs. Capcom 4 this week alongside Sony’s PlayStation Experience event, we’ve been told, where the Capcom Cup 2016 Street Fighter 5 tournament will be held.

Fans of the series should expect Marvel vs. Capcom 4's roster of Marvel characters to draw strongly from the cinematic universe that Marvel Studios has popularized — and has full control over — during the past decade. That means fighting game fans will more likely see characters plucked from The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy films, and not from properties like the X-Men. Sorry but it's not going to happen. Capcom's licensing deal ran out and with Disney owning Marvel you won't see many crossover, compared to movie licensed games or the LEGO marvel games. If there isn't huge profit to be made, then Disney doesn't care. See the Infinity games that were scrapped for not making enough money for Disney despite them selling well and fans seeming to enjoy them. This news is busted!

@davillain-: Im pretty sure disney is now licencing out stuff again because they dropped their studios, so it is possible for Capcom to grab them. That being said, the rumor is that it will happen at the playstaion experience, which makes sense if true because of how friendly Sony and Capcom have been recently, so we wont have to wait long to see if its true. Also capcom is supposed to be there

@aigis: If there were to be another MVC, Capcom wouldn't have much control over the Marvel side just like in UMVC3 did. The majority of the Marvel side would be picked due to some kind of promotion. Most likely who will be making an appearance in the MCU films and TV shows. IE characters such as Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Thanos, Daredevil, Luke Cage etc, which was one of the reasons why Rocket Raccoon made it in UMVC3. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see another MVC game but I hardly hear anyone asking for a new one tbh.

We'll see what happens. Capcom is on death's door as far as I'm concerned and don't see a need for a MvC4. All they're going to do is wreck another of their franchises. The only games I want from them are RE2 Remake and a Dino Crisis reboot with Regina in third person (don't change it to some first person shit-fest like RE).

Disney is VERY close with Sony these days. Don't be surprised if this is only PS4/PC again. And before you say no way remember Spider-Man PS4.

Isn't Spiderman a Sony owned property though? I know they struck a deal with Marvel to have him in Civil War and Homecoming, but my understanding is that Sony still owns the rights to the character.

It would honestly be a mistake on Capcom's part to make this PC/PS4 exclusive after SFV bombed.

Seeing as fighting games are among the only things Capcom still does well, and seeing as SFV is one of the best fighting games out there, I have no idea where you're coming from lol.

The first game in the series was X-men vs street fighter. They've put almost all of the X-men characters from that into newer iterations plus extras. They'll definitely have X-men characters if this is MvC 4

They only had 5 in MVC2. The reason for this is Marvel doesn't own the rights to the Xmen movies so they will barely feature any characters that are not involved in the MCU.

Sony only has a license to the film rights. Disney/Marvel has the rights to everything else. SFV bombing had nothing to with with being PS4/PC only. Xbox One would not have saved that game. Another 200-300k would still be a massive flop.

If Marvel v Capcom 4 is real it will probably be another PS4/PC scenario. Xbox only owners prepares yourselves.

You do realize that Capcom has not made any more Marvel games because they lost the license? Sony might be the only the reason they can make another Marvel game. Disney/Sony is a thing now.

If Sony is the only reason Capcom can make the game(the dominant theory right now) it will be console exclusive. The only thing to learn from SFV is to not release a half-baked game. That game's failure had nothing to do with exclusivity.

You misunderstood me. I mean Sony is brokering this deal with Marvel/Disney and they have chosen Capcom as the developer. Same scenario as Spider-Man PS4. If you read the gossip on this game most don't think Capcom would be in financial state to pull this kind of deal off on their own. If they could do it on their own why hasn't it happened before now?

Sony funded SFV so Capcom didn't lose anything. RE6 sold over 5 million copies so it wasn't exactly a flop. Finally RE7 is getting a lot of positive buzz. I expect it do very well as the only big game in January(sorry Gravity Rush 2).

If Sony is funding again all Capcom has to do its make it. You think these games suck you won't mind not being able to play it. Good for you.

@Quicksilver128: There were more than 5 in 2 (cable, wolv, storm, cyclops, magnus, sent, rogue, juggernaut, psylocke... etc.). They had more in MvC3 as well.

SF2 is not a very newcomer friendly game by today's standards. It's success back then was its novelty. SF4 actually did add specific measures to target new players like input shortcuts and ultras -- which reward you for getting hit basically. Also, much of the marketing around SF2 was directed at competitive players.

They were also actually pretty dismissive of their dedicated base with the alpha series. They went from having 10k entrants in standalone tourneys on arcade to making not arcade perfect console ports with modes for non competitive players (Playstation version). They could have had it both ways like you said, but this cost them in the long run. I think this is what Ono is talking about.

Overall they should realize what their main mistake was: releasing the game with almost no content. This is unattractive to any player.

I might be wrong, but I thought MVC3 did not sell all that well, which is why Disney took the rights away from Capcom.

Either way, I hope the roster is at least better if they do Marvel Vs Capcom 4. The Marvel side had its issues, but the Capcom half of the roster was just sad, and the excuses they made for why certain characters were not in were pathetic.

Namely Mega Man who they claimed would not work in the game, despite being in both MVC1 and MVC2, and went on to appear in Smash 4.

@caryslan2: MvC3 sold 3.8mil and no they didn't take it from them Capcom couldn't afford keeping marvel rights for the game, but probably this will sell more (MvC3 was prior to the super hero movies craze and the avengers and Marvel movies are doing way better that DC movies box office wise) also Disney let go of all their game development studios and decided to outsource their games to more capable studios (spider man by insomniac) and since Sony and Disney seem to be very close now i assume Sony is into this deal and they are the reason Capcom can make another MvC since Capcom can never afford the rights.

If there is a reason why mvc will never outsell injustice is because Capcom fighters tend to be not very casual friendly and hard to get into.
