DVD9 seems to be ok. room to grow and with better compression, games like mass effect 2+3 can be even bigger

It's amazing what a good developer can do.JimJackJoseeven more amazing what an amazing developer can do. and bioware is the best of the best. maybe an inch behind blizzard
[QUOTE="kelkimble2k4"]Mass effect sucks and so does 360. Nickman71
Great argument!
Not an argument!! It's an true statement.
Amazing, how the hell do they do it?! I mean the game looks to have thousands of lines of dialog and a bucket load of character models.. Amazing.
But I guess PS3 needs blu-ray to load the same textures over and over because it loads too slow off the disk..
going on a limb here, and maybe someone can prove or disprove this info
but isnt the reading off blu-ray slower than dvd? doesnt that counter its massive size advantage?
blu-ray will be great 9or hd-dvd) for the next generation of consoles, when its got a strong foothold in the market
right now, it seems to be somewhat usefull, but the cons outweighs the pros
So you're ok with having a limited amount of space? yea Mass Effect is a long game and it fits on a dvd ...ok? so what if the developer wanted to make a game triple that amount ...now what? or is that "too" long now, stop acting like blu-ray isnt a good development, why would you want to make developers have to work longer on a game just to compress it when you can put it on a large capacity disc and call it a day? people are satisfied with "just good enough" or "see! it fits!", because their console doesnt have the best thing out, its sad really.shadyd1717
What is so silly about this argument is that disc space is not the limiting factor as Sony would have you believe. What restricts the size of games is cost of creating content. That's a developers main concern. As seen with Mass Effect the developer decides how big a game will be based on the cost of developing that content. the media it ends up on is secondary and as with DVD9 they made it work. Blue ray was included in Ps3 for one reason only to help Sony win a movie format war. I don't believeit could be more obvious. Don't buy into the Sony hype machine that's all it is.

What's your point NextGenNow? Idc about disc space. I'm not too lazy to swap discs. What's really sad is this game will have more content than any other game to date, and fit on a dvd. Despite these so called PS3 games where the devs said that blu-ray was manditory. ME will be one of the top tier games of this generation on any platform. I'de serious doubt PS3 has a game of this calibur down the pipeline, blu-ray or not.

lol wutWe'll see. We'll see if it actually has some varying environments or if its just repetitive like Oblivion. Seems to me like most have hyped this game due to steps ahead in gaming dialogue. It doesn't take much to compress audio, fellas.The_Crucible
Yet Uncharted is over the DVD9 limit due to uncompressed Audio. Compression is a beautiful thing. But I'm sure Blu-Ray will pull some amazing things. I had to wait until Metroid Prime 3 for the first great Wii-Mote Experience I'm sure Sony will come out with those games where Blu-Ray is really needed. Not like RFOM and Uncharted because they don't compress audio. I'm thinking maybe FFXIII and such.

The 2x Blu Ray drive on the PS3 is roughly comparable to the 12x DVD drive on the 360 for reading speeds. Sometimes the PS3 is a little faster, sometimes its a little slower.
I dont know if it'll be great for next gen though. Depending on how fast people accept digital distribution, we might just be having systems will 200 - 500 GB hard drives and be downloading most of our games, effectively making any physical media just a "nice to have thing" instead of something thats really needed.
And BTW, the DRM protection is stored on the 360 HD, not on the discs.
It comes via updates:

Actually the DVD 9 in the 360 can store up to 8 gig because I believe nearly a gig goes to DRM. At least, this is what I remember reading several times in magazines after the launch. But I'll have to check up on it though to be sure.
lol its not sad... It proves bluray was an epic blunder. Xbox 360 beat PS3 to the marketplace by over a year, and saved the consumer money... plus it has all the worthwhile games this gen and has a followup console clearly coming out much sooner then the a PS4 (if that ever happens now).. so while all the suckers paid $600, have waited a year and received nothing in return, Lems will buy a new HD DVD xbox 720 or whatever by 2010 that will make the PS3 100% obsolete... we didnt need bluray this time around. Its fact. Best part is this next xbox will be right there at the $400 price range... not $600...and not only will it get a HD disc drive, but crysis level graphics.
