[QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"][QUOTE="Xolver"]Wait, wait, wait, wait. You seriously can not predict what I'm going to say now...? Really? Honestly? For real? Sheesh.

Well, guess what? If you can compress a game to 8 GB. By your logic, it would automatically be 24GB in BR because you can convert media types and the likes...? Well, what keeps PS3 devs from compressing and then adding more content?

Bottom line, compressing works only for and not against BR.

Xolver

See you'd have a point if you had something to back it up. How many PS3 games have we seen that last much more that 8 hrs, with the exception of Oblivion?

What stops the devs from putting on tons more content? Time and money.

Once again, arguments are being changed. This'll never stop, huh? :( I provided a pretty undeniable retort to counter what you said, and instead of acknowledging it, you nudge it off and come up with a different argument. I just hate that. This wouldn't be possible on a live chat.

I don't care developers didn't do what I said, I just said what's clearly possible and relevant to the argument, and that's that.

Anyway, developers have already proven actually what I'm saying is true, but I'm tired of saying the same things over and over.

How did I change arguements? I answered you directly. Time and money stop devs from adding more content.

If it was on the PS3 it woul be twice as long with "real" high deffinition LMAO 640p.sadikovic

Yeah, but the extra length would have crappy textures and framerates. Not to mention it would flop.

Lair and Ratchet & Clank say "hi!"

lol,360 dvd is 7 gigs, lessthen half gig to spare.

Blu-ray FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BosoxJoe5

What? Where the Hell are you getting this from.

The 360 uses dual layer DVD 9's.

Hint: The "9" stands for 9 gigs.

.

360 dvd is 7.95GB and the .95 goes to DRM.

What's your point NextGenNow? Idc about disc space. I'm not too lazy to swap discs. All this storage wars crap is getting so old.

It's not even true, he COMPLETELY made that up.

The 360 discs have 9 gigs available for games.

here found the link.

Dev says so- http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1022780&postcount=34

owned!

A forum posting? Lmao, and you put owned? Man:lol:

DVD9 has slightly under 9 GIGAbytes, however that does translates into 7.95 GIBIbytes. Gibibytes are Giga Binary Bytes which isa vastly different way to measure space.

I believe you mean gigabytes vs gigabits.

For reference

We spoke theoretically about why it's needed or not needed, and said nothing about devs. You then added them in when you saw the argument goes to my advantage. It's not just going further in the argument, it's changing the big subject to "Developers don't use BR well" and not "BR isn't needed".

So you're ok with having a limited amount of space? yea Mass Effect is a long game and it fits on a dvd ...ok? so what if the developer wanted to make a game triple that amount ...now what? or is that "too" long now, stop acting like blu-ray isnt a good development, why would you want to make developers have to work longer on a game just to compress it when you can put it on a large capacity disc and call it a day? people are satisfied with "just good enough" or "see! it fits!", because their console doesnt have the best thing out, its sad really.shadyd1717

How can you POSSIBLY come off sounding like you know what you are talking about? You speak in THEORY only, not FACT. Do you ore your PS3 have anything that is anywhere near the size of Mass Effect?????? Do you?

No I mean Gibibytes vs. Gigabyte. A byte is just 8 bits. Byte is actually short for by eight. Gibibytes are some thing different.

The thing is, the DVDs can hold 8.5 GB, this game, which has one of the largest gameworlds there's ever been, is only 6.74 GB. It didn't even come close to "just making it". It had plenty of space left over, if this doesn't mean that Blu-Ray is just too much, too soon, and currently pointless, you're just burying your head inthe sand

I couldn't care less how much space Mass Effect takes up on a disk or "if it were on x, y, z console it would've been better because of [reason]" i just want to play the game. its bioware, we all know the game is going to be epic. just some of us are trying to downplay it for some reason. has bioware wronged some of you in the past? stolen your lunch money? made fun of your mommy? :? no, enjoy the damn game and stop trolling.

The exact size of the disk has nothing to do with the thread. The fact is, the best games are comming out for the system without blu-ray.

Who cares if the disk is 7gigs, 8gigs, 9gigs... it does not change the fact that the game is done and fit fine on a single dvd. Proving that bluray was once again not needed.

JimJackJose

Once again why do you all complain about the stupidest stuff. DVD have their place and so does blu-ray.

If blu-ray was held by the other camp and dvd still with Sony everything that you all are saying as defense would be the same thing you use as offense.

If Bioware can fit the game on 1 disc, that is great. If other companies use the 25+gigs for uncompressed whatever that is great to. Why argue about what is not needed when probably no one in here is a videogame developer.

Thats like a bunch of former high school football players arguing about if gatorade or crystal lite is better for NFL players. Just it back, shut up and enjoy what the companys do with all the technology. Just my 2 cents.

going on a limb here, and maybe someone can prove or disprove this info
but isnt the reading off blu-ray slower than dvd? doesnt that counter its massive size advantage?

blu-ray will be great 9or hd-dvd) for the next generation of consoles, when its got a strong foothold in the market
right now, it seems to be somewhat usefull, but the cons outweighs the pros

shiram

Apprently its slower loading time accounts for them adding more space. The space added in many GB's is to counter the longer or slower loading apparently

Too be honest, i really only picked up a 360 because i missed some xbox games like Otogi 1/2, PDO, Bruce Lee(:(), Chronicles of Riddick and i just re-rented onimusha genma!
I really don't bash a lot of games, but the quality of those screenshots are just bad, using those to prove a point is a joke.

We'll see. We'll see if it actually has some varying environments or if its just repetitive like Oblivion. Seems to me like most have hyped this game due to steps ahead in gaming dialogue. It doesn't take much to compress audio, fellas.The_Crucible

Well its not really steps ahead, the only real difference is that the animations are specific to each choice, and connected animations for both parties.

Though Audio files on PS3 games are anywhere from 10-15 GB's. It's sad when the audio of a game is bigger then the game itself.

Cows are being a bit silly here. One of the largest games i can think of ever being created fits on one DVD... therefore is it not reasonable to believe that we're not going to see a game disc crisis whereby every game comes on five discs this gen? I think the answer is fairly obvious.

Face it; the only benefit of blu-ray is that developers dont have to bother compressing their data. Thus saving some time. That's it. It doesn't magically make games better, nor does it make them longer.

[QUOTE="kelkimble2k4"]Mass effect sucks and so does 360. ProductNumber49

Great argument!

Not an argument!! It's an true statement.

how is it true when the 360 is beating the crap out of the ps3?

Fanboys hate what they can't have, or in this case play. It's sad really.

I can tell Mass Effect has stiff animations from screenshots. How jealous are you all of my intimate knowledge of a game that hasn't been realeased yet.

Blu-Ray is a waste of space of current games. One day games will need the extra space, but it's not even close to needed in today's world.

[QUOTE="shadyd1717"]So you're ok with having a limited amount of space? yea Mass Effect is a long game and it fits on a dvd ...ok? so what if the developer wanted to make a game triple that amount ...now what? or is that "too" long now, stop acting like blu-ray isnt a good development, why would you want to make developers have to work longer on a game just to compress it when you can put it on a large capacity disc and call it a day? people are satisfied with "just good enough" or "see! it fits!", because their console doesnt have the best thing out, its sad really.Nugtoka

What is so silly about this argument is that disc space is not the limiting factor as Sony would have you believe. What restricts the size of games is cost of creating content. That's a developers main concern. As seen with Mass Effect the developer decides how big a game will be based on the cost of developing that content. the media it ends up on is secondary and as with DVD9 they made it work. Blue ray was included in Ps3 for one reason only to help Sony win a movie format war. I don't believeit could be more obvious. Don't buy into the Sony hype machine that's all it is.

Very very Good post man. If PS3 fanoys can not understand those words.......they are lost.

So that's why it looks like ass.

Adrian_Cloud

Wow, this can be SO easily shot down, I'm not even going to bother. This is pathetic, even for you.

Here's another one.

Fanboy, welcome to Next gen, so sad you wont take part in it.

Me gorgeousGorgGorgeous 2

 Next gen does not equal bad looking character models with stiff animations, and exploring a bucnh of empty space. Play RE4, or SOTC. those are really bad qaulity screens by the way, looks like they were taken with a cell phone.

They were taken with a cellphone:|

Bad looking character models...Please, by sayingthat your just making yourself look like a fanboy, the detail is amazing, the animations are top notch. These pictures are astounding, theatmosphere in that last pic...:shock:see those mountains in the background? You can climb those.

Oh and I much prefer having freedom to move around, you know cause actual planets don't consist of narrow corridors or Hallways, they are wide open spaces, not confined spaces with invisible walls.

If Mass Effect can create planets that size, with that amount of detail it just proves that BluRay is not needed. Cows are ridiculous sometimes, always buying into the Sony hype, BluRay is needed, Rumble is for noobs, tacked on motion sensing is next gen, get real.

For the record I have played RE4, what's that have to do with anything?

The argument of blu-Ray versus DVD9 is much like the argument of Tolstoy versus Dostoevsky.

Sure, Dostoevsky's books are nowhere near as long those of Tolstoy, but they are still able to hold a vast wealth of information about the characters, plot, etc. because Dostoevsky's writing style includes neither overly repetitive and redundant information nor completely erroneous facts. In short, even though one might provide more volume, the volume is not paramount to the development of the novel (or, in the argument of this thread, game).

We'll see. We'll see if it actually has some varying environments or if its just repetitive like Oblivion. Seems to me like most have hyped this game due to steps ahead in gaming dialogue. It doesn't take much to compress audio, fellas.The_Crucible

Huh? Now that sounds like damage control to me. It sounds like you're trying to make excuses for why the game could be so small. What? No pictures of jaggies? Seriously, unless you can refut the claims or agree and go "I guess, for now, Blu-Ray isn't needed, but in another year....", it really is anti-productive. About as productive as posts going "OWNED!"
