Mass Effect is by far the best rpg of this generation and the best writing ever

Gamespot gives it an 8.5. Gamespot is one of if not the hardest critics who reviews games. 1/2 point away from AAA status is not a mile. IN their review they nitpick and often exagerate things. Gamerankings has it at 93% after 27 reviews.

The story and attention to detail is jus mind blowing. Information on techonology, races, planets, ships, rank, etc. I have spent hours jsut reading through my codex just looking at the information I have unlocked. I"m 23 hours in and have barely even touched the main story.

This is an epic game and one that no rpg lover should miss. Miles better then morrowind and an evolution from Kotor.

I played all of them, Loved Blue Dragon, Oblivion,and Eternal Sonata, but Mass Effect takes the cake. To me Mass Effect is one of the best RPGs I played.

Yeah it is my fav rpg so far, but I havent played many but I have played all the FF's and its way better then those. Also I dont know what people are talking about with the framerate issues, I havent experianced any slowdowns at all. Although there is alot of texture popping.

It's a great game that no one should miss. I almost feel bad for all the rabid fanboys that hate it just because it's not on their system.

Like Kotor this is a rpg I will play through a few times just to see the different endings, and prestige classes. It's actually one of very few rpg's I would ever consider beating and immediately starting a new game and keep playing.

If you do mean Morrowind (which was one of the earlier games of the last generation), you could argue that nothing has really surpassed it even in this generation. I've yet to play the Witcher though.

Perhaps you should actually play the game before you say that. Mass Effects story and writing is way above and beyond anything I'veseen in an RPG before, any game in general and certainley better than FFX's.

What other game brings up issues like politics, society, culture, racism, physical disabilities, suicide, Romance,genocide, ethnic cleansing, AI lifeforms, mating rituals, homosexuality, religion and birth control? I'm sorry but Tidus, Yuna and his big blue friend just aren't even in the same league as the maturity, depth and quality of writing that is present in Mass Effect.

As for best RPG of this generation. We still have the rest of the Mass Effect trilogy to look forward to, Fall Out, Final Fantasy 13 and a potential Baldur's Gate sequel. Mass Effect is certainley the best RPG of this generation SO FAR but here's to hoping Mass Effect 2 and 3 manage to surpass its mighty predecessor.

Baldur's Gate 2 has better writing but ME is definitely better than any other RPG this gen. Best part of the game is by far...

Eternal sonata is some lineair JRPGpeace of crap... Blue Dragon is some JRPG peace of crap.. lol

I havent played morrowind but between Oblvion and Mass Effect I would say Mass Effect has better story and appealing graphics better sound.. the dialogue of mass Effect is much better much more interacting.... Well Oblivion is more open than Mass Effect but the story isnt really engaging...

BioWare is making Dragon Age as a spiritual successor to BG2... According to them, the game is looking amazing. You have moral choices too. Seems to be a new theme in RPG's. anyway, according to them, you have much deeper moral choices in Dragon Age than in any of their previous games, Mass Effect included. Things like, want to become a tyrant and slaughter the populace of a town or become a benevolent king, helping the city to flourish. At least that is what I read in PC Gamer Magazine. Sounds good.

PS - That was in a column at the end of the Holiday issue talking about the RPG's they have the highest hopes for.

Mass Effect is tough for me. On the one hand, you have an amazing single player story experience, great sidequests, and evolutionary dialogue system, and a downright awesome game. On the other hand, I feel a lot of it is contrived, which I believe prevents it from "Greatest RPG of all time" consideration.

I don't like how you can scan only a couple of worlds for guarenteed findings, you should be able to scan ALL worlds, and find something or not. I don't like how the non-story explorable worlds are relatively the same, and you just look on your map to find any point of interest that is possibly there. It's more "follow the leader/waypoint arrow" than it is exploration. To me, the universe just doesn't feel that big. There is no other trade hub/populated world other than the Citadel (that I've found so far) and I feel it makes the universe feel much much smaller.

But these are nagging issues, so it's really not that big of a deal, I hope these can be rectified in the sequels. As it is though, Mass Effect is the best RPG to come out this gen yet. Other than the Witcher. Buy the Witcher.

I haven't really read that much about Dragon Age, but hearing this my hype for itis through the roof. BG 2 was the best RPG I played.

Anyways i'm about 9 hours into Mass Effect and so far it is the best RPG (i've played) this generation. A lot better then Oblivion IMO.
