Seriously, don't you agree the game looks geourgeous and sci fi star wars style + RPG = instant win? Now that game looks awesome. If it plays like it looks it's a real contender for a perfect score.

No! Just no, do not hype any game as a 10. It is just delayed ownage.
Hype if you must, but not a perfect score. At least go more vague and say AAA....

It's all about the gameplay at this point.  We know graphically it will be amazing and the voicework and sound seem to be amazing as well.  We will have to see how the combat works, does the gameplay become too repetitive, how enganging is the story etc. etc.

Yeah 10 is nuts. I think it'll be the most influential game of 2007 because of the dialogue system.

Don't hype games to get a 10, only bad things could come from it. Just look at TP.

IF a game comes that can shock the industry as good as OoT did then it can get a ten. It all depends on how impressive the game is for today's standards, and that game sure looks years ahead of anything being previewed out there.

I disagree.  This is an original IP not another sequel, that helps it's cause.  It's pushing the envelope graphically, another help, it's a HUGE game, and finally everyone keeps waiting for THE game that defines this whole "next-gen" silliness and the game that really does it may just garner such a score.  I mean hell, all the reviewers were going crazy over Gears and came close to giving 10's and it obviously had flaws, a game that hits the nail on the head, however, could get it.

No. There is only one contender for a perfect 10 on Gamespot and that is Spore. There are hardly going to be many games scoring above 9.6 from here on in. Gamespot themselves even said they are not going to hand out any more 10's seeing as how "no game is perfect."

So... According to you people the 10 scale just shouldn't exist? What's the point then? They should then just scrap it and use a 5.0 scale like GP does, or acknowledge games that define a whole new generation on technical and artistic aspects should get a 10. :|

the lost planet single player may be underwhelming a bit ( although I loved it) but the multiplayer is a blast.

not the best shooter maybe, but a great game on it's own. Great boss fights, great mechs, great graphics... great game.. i try to give all games a chance to see what they have to offer. Lost Planet has a lot to offer. if you only judge it as a shooter, it's mediocre.

That's just stupid. A 10 scale shouldn't be meant to be a representation of a perfect game, but merely a game that redefines every technical and artistic aspects of video games so far. Gs should acknowledge that and award games that are as good now as OoT and others that did get a 10 were on their day. Saying "no game is perfect" just doesn't cut it. the 10 is merely a scale, not a synonym of godlike

Not to pick on yet another whiner about XBL, but seriously.  Do you have more fun at a club with friends or alone?  If you are alone what are you doing to make yourself some friends?   If you are at the club and surrounded by a bunch of douches do you just stay there with them?

XBL is what YOUUUUUU make it.  What are you doing?  Find friends and play with them, leave douche games and for god sakes be cool or likeable or outgoing or whatever and make some freakin good friends to play with.

The problem with XBL is that it is very similar to the real world even though you are masked behind an internet connection, if you suck with people in the real world, then you are going to suck with people online.

XBL to me is amazing and my biggest problem is having too many good gaming friends that are playing too many different things and not enough time to hang with them all.

XBL is what YOU make it, stop whining and do something about it.

Based off personal hype, videos, information, etc.:

Graphics: 9
Beautiful character models, excellent textures. The only flaw would be that it isn't as impressive as Gears of War, thus it may not get the full 10.

Gameplay: 8-9
It's a shooter/RPG hybrid, and typically the combat system in these games is lacking. It's deep, it has a semi-lock-on targeting system. With loot, varied environments, varied enemies, varied gameplay, tactical teamate control. I fear it could end up being a little too shallow for an RPG, or a little too complicated for a shooter (based on your knowledge of the game before-hand).

Sound: 9-10
A full 30-hour main campaign with hundreds, if not thousands of characters with voice, an additional (at the very least) 10 hours of sidequests, multiple reactions to each conversation; basically, just a lot of fully-voice acted dialog. Assuming BioWare decides to get another award-winning composer to do the music (Jeremy Soule, in KOTOR's case), it should be quite excellent.

Value: 10
A 30-hour main storyline. Over 100 locations of exploration. Multiple fields of expertise (as in KOTOR). I assume there to be multiple endings. Multiple ways each conversation plays out. Simply a lot of replay value.

Tilt: 10
Well, most typically adore BioWare titles. It's a combination of excellent character design, brilliantly paced plot, an excellent and well developed setting, an unforgettable storyline, and (due to the excellent scripts, and voice acting) excellent storytelling.

Overall: 9.2 - 9.6

I believe that's a fair estimation at the score. Feel free to disagree, but do so with a decent rebuttal, or you shall be ignored.

Unless it changes the way we look at and play FPSs, i think it'll just score a high AAA score.

Gameplay-8 GRaphics -9 Sound-9 Value-9 Tilt-8 What is that? 8.8? Its really just kotor with a different theme....at GS it will most likey score AAA, or just flop like KOTOR 2. But from what i saw, thats what i'd give this game.

Aren't you basing those on previews, YOUR personal hype and ... well nothing else? Now excuse me if this isn't "decent rebuttal" at all, but the game hasn't been finished, so it's very unfair you'd judge gameplay just yet in my opinion. Much less sound. About the graphics, it may not be as impressive but all it needs to stand out is a better utilization of the artistic resources. If they pull out an engaging and convincing experience then they may not need better graphics at all. Which they look great anyway.

Sound rarely changes in development, more layers get added on but the background music usually stays the same. and the voice for the ip as well. Most they can do with IPs is facial animation and synching to the sound.

Very good point. Here's my side of it.
I'm a social phobe, I hate humanity, and I hate the human race. People are selfish, and evil. And most care nothing about other people. I'd rather limit my interaction with random people. Hence, I dislike XBL. I much perfer playing online in the older days where you just jump in and play and no one talks because there was no VOIP and no one typed because it was a waste of time. Your there for one reason and one reason only. To play a game.
I don't have XBL to make friends, and I sure as hell dont have it so I can listen to some 13 year old tell me how hardcore he is. There are just too many people out there who lie to themselves enough they start to believe it, and honestly its sad. Wake the hell up.
Edit:  BTW this post isn't directed at anyone person in this forum, its just my opinion or view on XBL.

GS will never give out another 10. I think 9.8 is the highest they will ever go from here on out.

Gamer556

I think 9.9/10 is the highest they will give out, apparently, after the THPS3 review, the highest they will give out is a 9.9/10. Someone a while ago posted about this, I don't remember the reason behind it.

Looks only get you a 10 in graphics, a game needs much more than that to get a 10 overall.

I see your point...I would also see some relevance if the MUTE or the TURN OFF VOICE function didn't exist...

But perhaps you like to engange in those games with those kinds of people to reinforce your unhealthy social choices...but I'm no Dr. Phil.

GS will never give out another 10. I think 9.8 is the highest they will ever go from here on out.

Well maybe if they port Tony Hawk 3 to the 360.

The lemming reaction to ME's score will be Jade Empire 2.0.Timstuff

jade empire was a great game:| gamespot just severly underrated it. I got it and beat it, I would give it about a 9.1, much better than gamespot says it is.

No, low AAA. No way is this or anything else coming out AAAA material. That means it's perfect. Aside from perhaps one or two minor flaws so small and insignificant they don't do anything to hinder gameplay, the games is supposedly perfect.

[QUOTE="Golden_surfer"] Aren't you basing those on previews, YOUR personal hype and ... well nothing else? Now excuse me if this isn't "decent rebuttal" at all, but the game hasn't been finished, so it's very unfair you'd judge gameplay just yet in my opinion. Much less sound. About the graphics, it may not be as impressive but all it needs to stand out is a better utilization of the artistic resources. If they pull out an engaging and convincing experience then they may not need better graphics at all. Which they look great anyway.

I've seen the combat system in action, I've read about all the details. I've seen vehicle combat in action, I've read about all the details. I know the base of how the gameplay works, it isn't too hard to give a rough estimation, especially in looking at the company's history. Mass Effect is also being made by the core team who did KOTOR, and it's also being directed by the same guy (Casey Hudson). As far as the sound goes, yes it isn't completely fair to judge the sound based off what we've seen. However, BioWare has done 2 previous games with complete VO, and original soundtrack (Jade Empire, and KOTOR) and they both had excellent ambiance, great VO, and stellar soundtracks. In essence, it's an ideal sci-fi game. It has realistic, creative architecture, unique specie designs, a well developed thesis as to how it all happened, among other details. The game may not be cel shaded (and many seem to consider cel shading as 'artsy', but this isn't entirely true), but it most certainly does have an interesting, appealing, and unique look. Take this screenshot as an example: An interesting architectural design, a great sense of scale, and it also adds to the game's (apparent) theme of nature vs. technology with the feeling of technology surrounding, and killing off nature. That is great style. Another: Well, I don't know for sure but if you look at the details you will notice that this screenshot is taken from within the Normandy. I based that conclusion off the fact that the soldier is saluting Shepherd, the shape of the wall behind them also looks similar to the shape of the Normandy. Well, this screenshot certainly does a great job with complementary colours (orange and blue). Technology all looks believable, yet unique. It also borrows the illuminated walkways from the Star Wars series, thus it may also spark up a few Star Wars fans, and make them feel at home (which is where your character is [the Normandy, home]). [QUOTE="Adrian_Cloud"] Sound rarely changes in development, more layers get added on but the background music usually stays the same. and the voice for the ip as well. Most they can do with IPs is facial animation and synching to the sound.

This isn't entirely true. The female teamate's voice (unless this is a different person all-together) has actually changed between X06 and E306.
