they had their chance to flesh out his backstory and make him an interesting character with halo reach, but instead we followed the story of a bunch of forgetable, one dimensional, wanna-be spartans that bit the dust quicker and for more pointless reasons than kenny from south park. what a waste of a prequel that was

I don't even know what Reach has to do with this anyway.they had their chance to flesh out his backstory and make him an interesting character with halo reach
arbitor365
They already showed what he did the entire time with Fall of Reach. So how could they flesh him out more with the game if we already know exactly what happens.
How can there be a Halo 4? Wasn't the story brought to a close? That's like making a MGS5 or a GOW4 - it just doesn't make sense.
Not really fleshed out in the games, but the books shed a lot of light on the Chief. And he has a personality in-game, too. See his banter with other characters and the way he acts in cutscenes for examples.master chief had personality? thats news to me

Did you play Halo 3? Go see the ending on Youtube, he finished the fight but they clearly left it open for a sequel, not like Halo 2 or anything. How can there be a Halo 4? Wasn't the story brought to a close? That's like making a MGS5 or a GOW4 - it just doesn't make sense.

Also in Halo related news, the novel Halo: Glasslands by Karen Traviss is releasing on Oct. 25th as confirmed in the Halo Bulletin. It,"will follow-up the events and characters fromHalo: Ghosts of Onyxin the wake of the final events of Halo 3, introducing a wealth of compelling and unexpected new heroes and villains, and taking a galaxy in chaos in some surprising new directions."
I'm epsecially looking forward to it as I'm reading Ghosts of Onyx right now :P.
your whole post from "they" to "was" was fail.....nothing but pure, unadulterated, fail..... since the story of reach was NOT ABOUT MASTER CHIEF AT ALL. why in Gods name would they tell you the story of someone who has nothing to do with the story itself? didnt you even listen to the dialoge in the game? did you understand why they were fighting at all??they had their chance to flesh out his backstory and make him an interesting character with halo reach, but instead we followed the story of a bunch of forgetable, one dimensional, wanna-be spartans that bit the dust quicker and for more pointless reasons than kenny from south park. what a waste of a prequel that was

It's been years since I've played through it, but I remember things coming to a satisfying conclusion. I do remember an after credits scene, but it wasn't anything to build a entire sequel off of. GoW3 had an after credits scene where
Kratos is suggested to still be alive
but what difference does that make? All the gods have been killed, so what else is left? Same with Halo 3...

We will find out, they left it so MC could be woken up by Cortana any time. Master Chief was floating towards a big planet, which then had signs of Forerunner landmarks on it (Halo fanboys will destroy me cause that's probably wrong :P). How does that not set it up for a sequal?
The ending for Halo 3 was open-ended; watch the legendary ending on YouTube to see what I mean. How can there be a Halo 4? Wasn't the story brought to a close? it just doesn't make sense.
Master_ShakeXXX
Why do people have this misconception about the word personality?
Just because MC is silent for the majority of the game doesn't mean he doesn't have a personality. Being silent is his personality. Is it a good one? That's up to you to decide. Not everyone needs to be in your face like Snow from Final Fantasy or Rico from Killzone.
Funny though, Master Chief gets so much hate but Gordon Freeman gets so much praise. They're almost identical, only one wears a motorcycle helmet while the other doesn't.

Last night I beat Killzone 3. I have to say it's a pretty good game. I do have some problems though first what's up with the comic fast scenes of the game. Second the story is complete crap. I posted a blog explaining why halo reach's storyline was terrible. I didnt post it here because its a giant wall of text and this isnt really a halo reach discussion thread.

here is my defense of KZ3's storyline
Makes you wonder what else they changed. I think we all knew this day was coming that Microsoft would try to carry on the Halo series without Bungie and will probably suck. This coming from a huge Halo fan.

ok i read your blog (and theres a reason why it got no comments by the way).....or tried to but i stopped at the first paragraph when you started comparing the killzone story and actors to reach. why do you set yourself up for such failure? your blog means nothing to me now...as i can tell that your opinion is as skewed as any sony exec. doesnt help the fact that youre sitting here with a KZ sig....but i see where youre coming from. another thread perhaps.....another time.
Since I do not believe 343 would completely revamp the Master Chief's character, as long as Steve Downes is still supplying the voice I'm down from changes.

to me kz2 had a better atmosphere then kz3...kz3 technical areas are a little better, but gameplay wise feels watered down..tho if your new to the series then kz3 will work..but most of the kz core crowd has migrated back to kz2

I love the part with malcolm mcdowell at 2:00-3:00

lets compare halo reach and killzone 3. look at the first set of cutscenes side by side
first 14 minutes of killzone 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9ufbjTmrWY
first 8 minutes of halo reach http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ3gobdOFH0
at 3:38-5:00 killzone 3 establishes everything you need to know about rico, sev, and narville. rico is headstrong and reckless and insubordinate. narville is thrust into very difficult situation as a leader (stuck on an enemy planet with little chance of survival). sev is just trying to do the right things, but is very uncertain about how they will get out of this mess. now, are all three of those character descriptions incredibly deep? no. but they are, in fact, character descriptions. the characters have struggles and more importantly you can see them emotionally reacting to them. they have a basic semblance of character.
now look at 00:58-3:15 in reach. it only establishes why the spartans are on reach and that noble six has an "interesting record." none of the characters display human features. nothing is said or shown to give them any defining character features. throughout the rest of the video, there really is no story at all. stuff is happening (not alot though), but there are no real characters and thus no tension or reason to care. it kinda reminds me of "the phantom menace." it is so sterile and devoid of emotion and legitimate characters. I know spartans are like any other special ops team and that they have military composure, but that is no excuse for poor characterization.
