Its hard to go through gaming forums without stepping into the relatively newly formed cult that is the (self-proclaimed) PC MASTER RACE. Its not simply a brain spasm shared by a group of delusional people who suddenly think they were given the God given right to look down on console gaming, we see the media riding this wave of PC enthusiasm (most likely to cash in on the interest).

Thing is, its not even a platform per say. Its an environment and one full of inconviniences.

There is no way around it. The open ended nature of the PC environment dictates that every single game will be compromised from its conception due to the necessity of having to work on multiple ranges of PCs, setups and OSs.

Comparable console components will ALWAYS, ALWAYS be better utilized by dedicated developers who have the luxury of a closed box shared by ALL of its user base, and a tangible technical ceiling to strive for.

That Geforce GTX TITAN you just sold your car to buy? Yeah, it will NEVER be fully explored during the period in which its considered a high end graphics card. Sorry :(

Sure you can buy a retail box or download a game file to your PC. But more and more we see PC gaming adopting the "walled garden" approach to how they distribute games with stuff like STEAM, ORIGIN and what not. You buy it, but as soon as you install the game it belongs to one of these services.

This is a modern "platform" that only NOW (through STEAM) is introducing "sharing games" as this amazing feat, when the truth is that you are given limited options regarding what you can do with a product you supposedly own.

Want to easily avoid DRM? Good luck with that.

Want to sell and/or easily share your digital library across all services? LOL nope

And even if you could sell your games...

• 4. MODERN PC GAMES RETAIN NEXT TO NO MONETARY VALUE. ITS RESALE VALUE IS ZERO

Wanna walk into a second hand game store and sell off those titles you have to help fund whatever you want to buy next, or simply make some money back on what would essentially be dead weight around the house?

You will either be met with a clerk who will laugh at your face or be given coffee change for games that are valued 5-10x more on consoles.

Its basically a one and done deal for life. You invest on PC games? That money stays stuck there forever.

Sounds familiar? Yeah its the same mentality that is now giving the general population the idea that games have no reason to cost 60 dollars when they can get stuff for free or 99cents on their ipad to shut their kids up or pass some time on their train rides or in between facebook posting.

Not only does this benefit nothing but STEAM and its hunger for new members, many developers are seeing considerably larger revenues of their indie titles on consoles/platforms with much smaller user base, like the goddamned Wii U.

You reap what you sow people. Now have fun with f2p games and micro transactions as companies try to compensate for this aggressive race to the bottom of the price well.

Its OK, we know you've been treated as the red headed stepchild by developers and publishers for years, but dial down on the overcompensating praise and fake pride.

1: wouldn't invalidate that the PC's games look better and run better so who gives a shit if our tech isn't maxed? You can't do better

2: my rig runs everything I need fine, it's less my specs and more windows that dicks me over. And even then with constant driver updates, software updates, and patches the whole a game running on my PC is a non issue.

3: I don't give a **** about what game sells the most, why should we apologize for actually having way better avenues for purchasing games than console fans? We have GoG, we have Steam, we have Greenman Gaming, we have variety. You guys get a publishers fist up your butthole, buy some overhyped shallow work of dog trash for 60 bucks, that help fund more overhyped shallow work of dog trash

4: PC games have ever had resale value? lol this has been a thing with PC gaming for years, and frankly we all got the **** over it long ago. If the games are legit, you don't need to sell anything, isn't that what an enthusiast of this medium wants? A bunch of games that actually will stand the test of time?

5: Again why should the gamers apologize for getting themselves a better deal?

Console optimization is just a myth plenty of evidence about. Consoles are actually a bad deal you can get double or triple performance without paying double or triple amount of money. Yeah your thread is shit full of misinformation and inaccuracies.

1. You are paying for tech that won't be fully utilized, unlike whatever is under the hood of a console box. You SHOULD give a shit when the best possible outcome is that "at least it will always look better than the older tech on consoles".... thats a really poor justification for the money invested.

2. Its inconvenient. Its a barrier that affects and/or bothers people to various degrees, but its still there. Its an unnecessary step between turning the machine on and playing.

3. You should give a **** about what pricing practice becomes more popular as that is what will dictate the trends of video game development and how much content, money and thought should be put into any given product in the following years. You think the fragmented F2P crap and DLC held as ransom came from where? Thats developers trying to maximize profits in a culture that is slowly accepting games as "low value" pieces of entertainment.

Does this not also apply to having the ability to choose which hardware is used when building a PC vs having no options when buying a console? Because if you want the ability to play all games at 1080p or higher at a decent frame rate on consoles, too bad. "Getting over it" is your only solution.

You're actually correct in saying that, but what you fail to realize is that not only are desktop GPUs are more powerful, if PC gamers want better graphics they can upgrade their GPU instead of having to wait several years before developers can get the most out of hardware. PC hardware is always advancing, console hardware within a generation is stagnant. You speak a truth with the optimization but it really means nothing in the context of the argument as it ignores all of the other factors. You also ignore the fact that since PC GPUs are stronger than console GPUs, they get more natural life even with the API inefficiencies. Better looking games right off the bat and better looking games throughout their lifetimes as console hardware is still weaker. Console games play catch up with PCs and have to make compromises when the polygon budget runs out due to stagnated hardware.

2. This is an ongoing issue and we see it crop up on the consoles quite often. BF4 was a mess on the Xbox One and PS4, GTA V Online was a mess on the PS3/360. However 99% of games and gamers have no issue on either the consoles or the PC. You just don't see that on the internet due to the fact that the only people that make a fuss are the ones having problems. Drivers and system stability hasn't been an issue since the early 2000s. Once again while you are right, you're downplaying the fact that console games regularly have issues, consoles break, and that PCs are still extremely stable and most games launch without large problem. Basically this is a moot point. Problems arise on all platforms.

3. XBL/PSN invalidate your claims. You can't play Halo 2 online anymore on the Xbox, but you can on the PC port. Console's lifespans dictate that you've bought into a service. When your PS4 dies in 2030, how can you replace it? When my PC dies I can replace it and install the software. There are emulators and plenty of other things on the PC that ensure backwards compatibility with old PC titles. Can't say the same on consoles unless you are willing to continue to pay for new versions of games through re-releases, remasters, and remakes.

5. Sales are good for the customer. Steam and its frequent sales have proven time and time again that gamers will buy a game instead of pirating if the price is right. Console gamers do the same with used games. Retail game prices do not fall fast enough in the console world. Thanks to multiple DD services competing for our money, PC game prices drop faster and usually retain better value (pack more in per sale), than a console game It's a crazy console mentality that high game prices are somehow good. I don't even see the logic with your argument. If a game isn't worth $60, then people won't buy it at $60. Why should games cost more than they are worth? Why are you ok with paying more for less? You should also cite some sources saying that indie game devs make more money on the console. Sounds like complete bullshit.

You are assuming I don't acknowledge the limitations of closed hardware boxes. Pointing out the limitations of the PC as a platform doesn't mean everything else is sunshine and rainbows.

Why consolites are so obsessed with our rigs ? How many times we, PC Gamers, have to tell you that it´s not about hardware, but it´s about games and experiences ? But consolite always insist on changing the subject to "hardware, graphics, resolution" even when they always know that it´s consoles´ weakest spot and they will always get owned on this topic. So I assume consolites just developed some sort of inferiority complex along the time, or they secretly want a gaming PC, but can´t afford one or don´t know how to build it. So they can´t stop making these threads trying to defend their purchases, but, really, NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR INFERIORITY COMPLEX PROBLEMS.
