since when has max payne been that fat?RedruM_I
Max went from a kind of Preppy clean cut cop, to a bald, beard, fat old cop.
Max has new developers, and the old MAX was based on one of the Remedy guys, the new team, based it on the new fat guy in the corner.
He looks like Bruce Willis in Die Hard films with a beard.hell yea thats cool. If the bullet time isnt new and fun thats what will make or break the game id think
This looks terrible. With this new setting the dark moody melodramatic metaphor infested monologues are gone (or if they still exist they will feel very out of place) also the entire film noir feel of the game seems to have been thrown out the window with the new brighter colors. And wtf is he doing in Brazil? This looks more like Uncharted Rated M edition than Max Payne. This looks like it could be the RE5 of Max Payne, throwing everything we love about it out the window to appeal to a larger audience. RE5 effectively killed any musings of horror from the franchise, and this game seems ready to kill any off any inklings of the film noir theme so prevalent and important in the previous games :(Mordred19
In the Gameinformer article covering this game, the Rockstar dev interviewed says they a definetly aiming for a noir feel, and state that noir isn't defined by rainy gray cities. in his words, noir can be anywhere, even a tropical enviorment like this, because of the characters and events.
lol, really? he said that.
Next time he will say Rambo is noir.

Good no more metro sexual type. Hahahaha
seems like that guy wants to play a new matrix game, Im in favor of the new gritty look
Max Payne has always been gritty....A different *style* of gritty.
Not this style....
I am a fan of the series, and iam not feeling this new look one bit, infact I hate it. Max payne was never ever a bright game, and never really been in sunlight.... the screenshots has proven this is already a turn for the worst. Anyone thats backing this is clearly not a fan of the series if max payne 2 is the last I will get of its kind I will clearly take it and ignore this garbage.
It seems like Rockstar North would have been better off calling this game anything other than Max Payne. jg4xchamp
Rockstar north (I think you meant Take 2) is making Agent and this is being made by the team who made Bully. As for this new Max, I thinks there clearly going for the John McClane look and I'm a little disappointed he isn't wearing any black.
Seriously...seeing as how Rockstar didn't invent the noir genre, they can't just re-define it on a whim. I think they started making the game and then halfway realized "Wow...this looks nothing like Max Payne......" but they were so far ahead they just decided "Hey, lets just spin some BS about how its still the same game...people will eat it up, I mean if RE5 and Fallout 3 got away with it, anyone can!" Im not saying this wont be a good game, all I'm saying is this game won't be a Max Payne game. If Master Chief all of the sudden became a brooding hero who constantly monologued in long winding metaphors and all the vibrant colors from the game dissapeared into dull shades of black and gray and master chief started hitting the bottle, no one would ever claim "Its still the same Halo we've all known! just a different setting!"lol, really? he said that.
Next time he will say Rambo is noir.

God I really hope Max Payne slims down, gets a black trench coat on, and goes back to New York at midnightToriko42OMFG! How badass would this game be if they pulled a MGS4? Hear me out: Remember when MGS4 was being advertised all we saw was the desert environment? And then when the actual game came out we saw various new locales that people never expected to be in the game? I mean everyone thought the game would take place in a desert then BAM! We are in the Jungles, in Shadow Moses, in Prague! Badassery! Imagine if this new Max Payne images are a ruse? Maybe the first level takes place in Brazil as the game shows off the new combat mechanics (a tutorial mission) and Max Payne is hunting down a lead or something. And then at the end of the level, the game fast fowards a few months to snowy midnight NY where the snow is "falling like mercury from the devil's heart"!? That would be pretty awesome :P

I guess he was thinking of hobo sam fisher with some Condemned-hero-guy touch added then BAM "wow that looks like old Max Payne, lets put him in a jungle"
or maybe something worse, it was another game and they just slapped the Max Payne name on it :(
You know what I want to hear? honesty in this industry, why don't they just say "well, we are approaching a new direction with the next Max Payne" this way we, the fans wouldn't have a problem about it, instead we would accept the game as it is, love it and anticpate it.
Just like what Mercurysteam did, they said the new Castlevania game will be different, I didn't complain a bit about that, in a matter of fact it is one the most exciting titles Im waiting for.
EDIT: hearing Master chief talking about finishing the fight while drunk is so awesome, specially if the reason for drinking is his jealousy of the new hero in the block, ODST guy.

I don't know if they went a different direction, the 3-D castlevania games sucked. If anything they are trying a new way to bring the castlevania formula to a 3-D environment. Where as Max Payne 3 completely abandons what made Max Payne 1 and 2 so great. I mean the areas where Max Payne 3 might be better will be the areas people didn't buy Max Payne 1 and 2. I also don't like franchises being worked on by developers who aren't the original devs. Finally, there never should have been a Max Payne 3. Max Payne 1 and 2 finished the entire storyline perfectly. This is just.....ugh IMO.

Seriously...seeing as how Rockstar didn't invent the noir genre, they can't just re-define it on a whim. Max Payne 1 and 2 finished the entire storyline perfectly. This is just.....ugh IMO.Not all of the 3D games were bad regardless of what the reviewers said about them, the first 3D Castlevania ( CV 64) was amazing, the PS2 games were also great but they were missing the combat and gameplay that makes a great 3D action game, other than that they were awesome.
also they are bringing a new approach to the CV 3D and they are going on a different direction too, the game will not follow the main story/timeline and proof to what Im saying, Igarashi ( the father of CV series) is not working on the game, the composer too and the devs also said it themselves.
The most important thing I want to see is the hearts, the cross, the holy water, the axe, Belmonts, Dracula and what make us recognise the castlevania games...I hope so if not then they are completely abandoning the CV elements.
They said they are going for "new and bold approach to the series" I just hope it is not so bold that it doesn't represent CV series at all, story/timeline/setting is ok if makes a better game but completely abandoning the series signature is gonna make me a sad panda.
I guess Kojima involvment is to make sure they don't mess up CV signature.
And I agree with you on the "don't like franchises being worked on by developers who aren't the original devs".
So based on a few screens and nothing else you people are able to deduce that the story is no longer noir, and the gameplay (most important) will be ruined simply because you can now actually hide behind some stuff while you use bullet time to dodge.
Seriously? Why are so many "gamers" on this board the most cynical whiners on the intraweb? Wait until the game actually has some videos and or reviews before crying.
Maybe what we saw is the first stage, where all hell breaks loose on Max as his history comes back to haunt him in a new locale. Just happened to mess up his breakfast.
I unlike many of you, am not ready to cry TRAITOR CRAP WONT BUY!!@T^!@ over a few screen shots. Max Payne 1/2 not only had great stories, but gameplay to boot. I'd imagine the new team is well aware of this.
Provided the game plays well, and has an interesting story, I'll be glad to step into the shoes of Max Payne yet again, despite being in South America.
We still have a lot to find out about this title before it is fair to (over) hype or dismiss it.
why do they change max payne in every game? the one in the first was teh coolest
[/QUOTE I agree. Its funny that his ingame facial design never moved, he was always smiling. Even when he dies.I love his new looks. Looks like Max's life did'nt get any better. I would've preferred a dark city over sunny vistas though.
So based on a few screens and nothing else you people are able to deduce that ... the gameplay will be ruined simply because you can now actually hide behind some stuff while you use bullet time to dodge.Metalscarz
This is where you have great misconception, my friend. Max *always* had the ability to hide. Manually, as in, the player does it his or herself. Without a clucnky, annoying, in your way, hand holding system. Cover systems only hinder the gameplay, they never enhance it. I've never played a game thinking "thank God they put a cover system in this!" And, in shooters like Stalker, cover is very important. Cover systems are not only unnecessary, but (dare I say) wrong. They are a bad and gimmicky gameplay device and should be removed from all videogames.
Same, though I don't really like the theme either. In these screens anyway. Reminds me of the setting of Army of Two. Max looks like Bruse Willis in Die Hard. Idk...sure hope they're gonna keep the stuff that made Max Payne great.I'm not a fan of his new look, but if it's fun, I'm there!
SolidTy
I dont know what dillusional state you guys have of Max Payne, but the only "gritty" thing about him was his voice. MP looked like the dorky guy from the Extenze-male enhancer infomercials. It was the gamplay/atmosphere that made the character, not the look. Now we have a ex-cop, who has lost everything in life with nothing to live for and you want him to look GQ?!? Come on people we as gamers whine about changing things up in the industry and everytime a dev takes the initiative, fanboys scared of change gripe even more. How about we wait until we play a demo to pass judgement.
Game On...

I think it should be left out of games UNLESS the games are built from the ground up for them. IE a game like Gears, not Max Payne.

Yeah, I agree with that as well. Gears focuses on cover, without it you die quickly, I can't imagine simply running and gunning in a Gears game, definitely on the hardest difficulty.
