It's a great game but the AI is really bad.
I'm a man of few words, any questions?

I'm having a hard time beating the game at standard as it is, I'm not that good of a gamer.
Maybe I should play it on a harder setting, eeeek...
The main thing I was thinking of was shooting at soldiers without their companions even noticing me, sometimes shooting at soldiers having them shoot back at me and then turn around and shoot at someone else like they forgot about me, like I'm not even good enough for shooting :'(
Well I've completed it on Solid Normal and am nearing my second run on Big Boss Hard and I've deffinitely noticed a difference. The enemies are more allert and greater in numbers. Hopefuly it gets even better on The Boss Extreme xDNarcadoxthey can also see you from a mile away

their guns sometimes clip through walls a point at at you
Best AI in the series, love it.W1NGMAN-
It's funny that one person can say that the AI is good, while an other person can say that it isn't. How can that be! It's a conspiracy!
Im playing on the second highest difficulty. I had two enemies standing next to each other. I sniped one in the back of the head. The other guy says "what was that?" or whatever, looks around, then goes back to standing still.
I think the AI is decent but Ive seen better (halo series)

No it's not. What dificulty are you playing one? Play on "Big Boss" dificulty the AI is much better.
- Enemies spot you from very far away
- Damage taken is much greater
- Enemies hear even the slightest of footsteps
- Enemy patterns are different almost every time, so there's really no remembering them.
- Enemies are just smarter and more agressive.
You must have been playing on Normal or Easy. If you want a death wish play on "The Boss Extreme" :).
yeah, AI isn't that great, on normal at least
similar to past games
it wasn't a big issue when playing though
akif22
You really can't say that. Maybe Konami made it a little too easy for the average gamer on normal mode, but this game has 5 difficulty settings. It gets much better.
Play at an harder difficult, they get smarter.
I'm not sure how stupid they are at lower difficult, only played at the hardest you start with (don't remember the name)
Super high, It's got to be higher than yours because I bet my life you couldn't create a game with a story as complex as MGS and tie everything up... fanboys these days.the A.I is probably on the same level as Kojimas intelligence

 Yeah... I think the "MGS4 has bad A.I." argument should be over now.
The AI is really good. I guess I don't agree.Their range of detection isn't high, but when they are on the ALERT Mode its damn tough to get rid of them. Remember people this is a game, and it follows the same pattern as other MGS games.

Yeah anything over Normal gets tough, they search alot more, and they check everything. Your only chance is to not be seen at all.maybe you need to set the difficulty higher.
i was thinking the same thing, but it may be just because im playing on standard difficulty. not sure. maybe you should try Big Boss difficulty or the one above it (after you finish the game it will get unlocked)

Listen to this man, he knows what he's talking about. I started on Big Boss Hard today and the AI is unforgiving, you practically have to play the game as slow and stealthy as possible to get through some parts.

wooooode
makes sense. the current difficulty setting is a little easy... i wonder if i should restart on Big Boss difficulty
Yeah it seems like everyone seems to over look that.xXHackettXx
Its the first thing i noticed, i think its freaking great. Its obviously dumb or easy settings because.... well do i really need to hurt people's feelings by going into details?!
[QUOTE="ReverseCycology"]All I know is that you can beat the game without dying on the lower 2 difficulties.

I beat it on Solid Normal without dieing, no alerts and no kills.

Nice. Did you get an Achievement for it? oh wait.

I haven't had achievements for almost 10 years or more. I don't mind, or rather care. :|

Which must mean that the AI must be pretty dam smart considering no AI has yet reached Human Intelligence.
Woot Score one for MGS4!
It's Metal Gear Solid. I think complex A.I on the level of the best FPSs will ruin its gameplay. Splinter Cell uses that kind of A.I, and see how slow-paced that game is. MGS isn't like Splinter Cell.

You should set yourself goals and achieve them. Any successful person will tell you it's how they got to where they are right now.

In real life, yes. But gaming is a whole nother story.I think the AI is good in the sense that it will shoot when spotted, and chuck grenades at your general area, but there are times where enemy combatants will run towards you not shooting, asking to be killed. They also tend not to even bother looking for a piece of cover. Of a majority of games this gen, I would classify the AI in this one pretty substandard.dru26
Yup, I had the enemies running at me through a door constantly as I continually mowed them down. Also, I was in the caves in the very beginning (the militia hideout), yet when I ran into one guy he turned on me and began shooting. Don't know if that was a flaw in the A.I. or if I did something wrong, but the other members I ran into let me roam free.
