To be honest the only thing really bad about it is that it abuses the hell out of slomo matrix and I mean abuses.

LegatoSkyheart

and to be honest, it's not that game breaking considering those Slow Motion scenes are also seen in MGS 2 and 3.

yea but twin snakes seems out of the bunch to use it the most. I still remember the last part of the game with the gun stand and I just facepalmed.I still like twinsnakes and its a great remake just the overuse of slowmo a bit.

You've got to be frakin kidding me, Twin Snakes was frakin horrible! MGS1 is still easily the best in the series, but Twin Snakes was more of a remake of The Matrix than MGS1. Hell even The Matrix didn't have jumping on rockets in mid flight.

Sure the graphics and gameplay (though the first person view makes battles too easy) may be better but the cutscenes are frakin horrible and completely ruin the feeling of the game. MGS was never about gameplay it was about the story and its amazingly directed scenes. Even the voice acting sucks compared to the original, like for example Naomi's accent is completely gone.

However, I think Nintendo still holds the rights, so thankfully that abomination will never see the light of day past GameCube

You just need to take off the Nostalgia Goggles. It gives off the same feeling you get when playing Metal Gear Solid for the first time.

LegatoSkyheart

Yes because having an extreme ninja Snake has SO much to do with nostalgia. Ninja Snake is SO similar to the one in the sequels.

I recently replayed MGS1 and sure I can see it has aged, but I care about story more than graphics and gameplay

I played Twin Snakes first and PS1 version second.

LegatoSkyheart

That's probably your problem. It's like when people say the Star Wars prequels are better than the originals. It's laughable

Twin Snakes was more of a remake of The Matrix than MGS1.

Darth_Kane

So some slowmo cutscenes means it's not even the same game anymore? Exaggerate much?

Darth_Kane

I wasn't aware that Twin Snakes changed the story.

Twin Snakes is exactly what MGS1 would have been if it were made a few years later with better technology. Because that's exactly what it is. MGS1, made a few years later with better technology. Anyone saying otherwise is hopelessly blinded by a nostalgic connection to... nothing.

That's comedy right there.

Compare that crap to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R9vTeYeytI (minus the suit though)

I wasn't aware that Twin Snakes changed the story.

the_bi99man

Having Snake turn into Dante definitely changes the story for me. Also some of the dialogue was changed to reference stuff in the sequels and stuff like that. The simplicity in the story is why MGS1 and MGS3 are considered the best by most fans

the_bi99man

Funny how none of the sequels featured anything like those cutscenes. Kojima didn't make Twin Snakes, I seriously doubt he would have made MGS1 like that if he had that technology then

I'd buy it only if it comes for PS4 at 1080p/60fps.  ;)

This gen is define by remakes, HD collections and motion controls. This style could be in the cards for PS4/720.

Don't listen to Gue. I don't know what he's talking about. Twin Snakes is the definitive version of MGS1. I can't bring myself to play the original, after playing Twin Snakes. I mean, it's literally the entire game, flawlessly recreated (including cutscenes) with graphics on par with MGS2/3, and the highly improved gameplay engine/features of MGS2, as well.

Gue1 is just talking out of his butt.

Twin Snakes is a really great Remake. It improves the original in every way possible.

I've played both and the original is harder because you don't have the First Person Aiming that is added in Twin Snakes, BUT you can look in First Person in the game.

Other than some changes in cutscenes (like the obvious over the top Matrix moves and Policenauts changed to Z.O.E. 2 in Otacon's cutscene and poster) The Game is pretty much the same.

I played Twin Snakes through and through for about 3 times (2 with Otacon and 1 with Meryl) and when I finally got the PS1 version through the Essentials Collection for the PS2, I just imediately knew where everything was and knew where to go and what to do, although I probably should mention there are probably some major differences in some item placements (due to Twin Snakes using the MGS2 engine), but the point of it is that both games are just about word for word.

You play 1 you've played them both.

I'd go as far as to say, though I never played MGS1, I'd rather have the remake (MGS is going to be falling under the same rule as the original Tomb Raider, going for the remake due to things that more likely may kill my enjoyment) if and when I get the chance.

nintendoboy16

Yeah. I mean, MGS1 was an amazing game, and still is, but the gameplay is definitely dated, to say nothing of the graphics. It's obviously still a highly enjoyable game, but Twin Snakes just improved upon absolutely everything, without losing anything. If you've never played MGS1, and want to check it out, I'd say at this point the best thing you could do is hunt down a gamecube if you don't already have access to one, play Twin Snakes, and don't even bother with the original.

I have a GameCube and a backwards compatible Wii. So I will. :D

I still have my cousin's Wii so I think i'll do the same just to see how it is. Especially since I finally been playing the orginal on PSP after buying from the PSN store back in 2009. And bi99man, your wrong the gameplay is still top notch. But then again the MGS 1-3 controls are outdated.

I also have to buy a GC controller though.

It's on my list and since I got Eternal Darkness (another highly sought after GameCube game, which has a voice cast that's pretty much a Metal Gear reunion) for Christmas in 2013, I'll be hunting for good deals on it.

Darth_Kane

Twin Snakes isn't horrible. You just need to take off the Nostalgia Goggles. It gives off the same feeling you get when playing Metal Gear Solid for the first time.

I played Twin Snakes first and PS1 version second. Same feel, only one has updated gameplay and voices.

This is getting as ridiculous as God of war. I hope this HD remaster trend dies off next gen, either do a proper remake or leave it alone.

First Person aiming broke the game completely. Twin Snakes is one of the easiest games you will ever play because of that.

Not forgetting the OP Tranq gun you get 2 mins into the game. lol

nobody wants that abomination as part of any Metal Gear collection. That reboot does not exist.

I never played the GC game, is it really that bad?

Don't listen to Gue. I don't know what he's talking about. Twin Snakes is the definitive version of MGS1. I can't bring myself to play the original, after playing Twin Snakes. I mean, it's literally the entire game, flawlessly recreated (including cutscenes) with graphics on par with MGS2/3, and the highly improved gameplay engine/features of MGS2, as well.

I'm with the_bi99man 100% on this one.

Oh, are they actually going to put Twin Snakes on the PS3 this time?

It's superior in every way, actually. It won't happen, though... it was funded by Nintendo. Then again, Nintendo may be strapped for cash, so who knows?
