Doing the "unlucky dog 01" side op mission.

I go in, extract (albeit sloppily), take him to the heli (for some reason he was unable to be Fultoned), then go into my mission list to see that it's not been checked. Now I am playing it over. Is this a glitch?

I won't lie the amount of enemy outposts can get a bit tedious at times but game like Assassins Creed and Far have done that alot.

I've already spent 49 hours on it, something I'm too old and don't ahve time for... Gues that means I love the game.

The credit thing is annoying as ****, but at least it get's "better" as the missions get longer.

Yea, he took a few magazines and grenades to the back. Best he's not suited for Motherbase if he can't survive a few scratches here and there.

I've had something similar occur to me with a Weapons blueprint.

Lots of people seem to be complaining about the story.

I dunno, I was never hyped for MGSV because of the story. I came for the gameplay. But if the cut ending affects the plot as much as people say, that's pretty disappointing.

And while I don't mind cassette tapes, I would have preferred that some of them were just cutscenes instead.

I think I just got the ending spoiled... I'm not sure it's the real one, but if it is: what the ****?

Someone who has finished the game and/or knows the ending, please volunteer to message me? I just want to confirm I have the right thing.

I mean, when I get this, I am getting it for the gameplay anyway (mostly I want a game that realizes Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes' promise), so this won't be a deal breaker, but, er, it's a bit of a bummer.

I spoiled the ending for myself. Message me what you heard and I can confirm it.

The story to Metal Gear has always been stupid, and usually has never been remotely deserving of any respect other than -yeah Kojima has some cool ideas, too bad he can't write worth a shit, has no concept of subtlety, and writes shlocky pulp that goes so far up its own ass that it tries to do the campy cheesebal thing while actually pretending it can provide a moment of reflection. Ignoring the very concept that one can not derive any real meaning or reflection, from fucking pulp.

Snake Eater's plot clarity and admittedly well handled gut punches not with standing. But yeah MGS 1-2-3 at least come off as, there is a connection that makes sense with those 3. 4, Peace Walker, and V? Is like grade A proof that this asshole makes it up as he goes.

Also love the game, but **** him for what he went with for the 2nd half of this game. WHY? just fucking why?

Yeah (although I was okay with PW, admittedly I always look at the game with the True Ending, which sort of pulls it all together). But I mean, MGS2 and MGS4 is just like one giant 'let's wing it guys.'

What's wrong with the second half of the game? Grindiness?

No the **** it doesn't. The Boss as a fucking AI barrel thing, **** off.

He Peace Walkers the 2nd half. This game is essentially Peace Walker, but the gameplay is actually excellent. So it's like Peace Walker, but a good game this time. Except he also kept the stupendously dumb peace walker thing in the game. The missions after the fake ending after mission 31 are ....so fu....it's just padding for a game that didn't need to be that long. What in the ****?

I like how the quick credits roll before and after each mission.

His name is all over the inside of the game...kind of like a hidden middle finger to Konami.

@jg4xchamp: what's so bad about the late game missions? Like, I don't mind if it's longer because I'm still having a blast even though there isn't much variety to the mission types

Metal Gear Solid story is written by a guy that pretty much makes fanfiction about his own game and happens to somehow make it canon.

It is also anime for western people, whom if they happen to like it, probably doesnt realise that they are probably into anime.

Metal Gear Timeline: A refresher course

I
found this excellent website which summaries what happens in the ENTIRE Metal Gear timeline (excluding Phantom Pain of course) for people that want to get a refresher course or newbies that don't want to go back and play the other games (I highly recommend you do)

I'm not too surprised that MGS5's story supposedly goes off the rails. I'm playing a Kojima game with absent Kojimaisms at the moment. I know he was going to Kojima the **** out of it sooner or later.

It's a 50 mission game, after mission 31 there are 19 missions. 9 of them are actual new missions, 10 of them are remixed versions of older missions or they are those old missions but on Extreme.

It's wank.

Spent 30 (or so) minutes trying to capture Quiet. Finally managed to do it. Get online to see if there were other methods (I just kinda went for a regular "battle" but I know MGS games always have different ways to deal with stuff). Discover the supply drop method. *sigh*

Well, at least it was fun! And I kinda learned how to tackle snipers and sniping areas a lot better.

I accidently ran into her with nothing but the starting rifle and tranq gun (neither with any upgrades)... Turns out you can do her mission early if you take a side op, which let's you get near the powerplant... I just could'nt do it without the alternative method... Did'nt help either, that I tried to tranq her down, because I thought lethal weaponry would actually kill her.

Thank God the gameplay is absolutely fantastic, because the story has yet to really grip me. It's so fractured, due to mission structure, that it's not engrossed me at all. I spend most of my time doing side ops and working with Mother Base.

@jg4xchamp: That is pretty lame. The game is long enough as is. That just seems like blatant padding.

If you were satisfied with the story that makes me kind of optimistic. I know some of the major plot points but everyone keeps saying how much of a trainwreck this game's plot is. Some are even saying it's worse than MGS4.

@princeofshapeir: Satisfied with the game so far, the amount of content it has, the story is unfortunately the worst part. I lied btw I'm not done with the story thought I was due to a longer credit scene than usual.

Chapter 1, I actually want to do the side ops in this game, because I like the gameplay. I'm on chapter 2 for awhile, but god damn, it's so amazing how this gameplay is so fucking Kojima proof, you think no way does he **** this up (and whatever for the most part he doesn't)....but he found a fucking way. He found a way to not make the game that should have made.

10 of those 19 missions can technically be skipped. If you just focus on the yellow missions and do side ops...but regardless to get to mission 46, which is the ending of the game, you have to grind a bit. To get to mission 49 the last proper mission, you'll need to grind out a bit. And the ending that is cut from the game, holy shit, what in the ****? The last part might be Konami, but this other shit is exactly what I didn't like about Peacewalker (that game fucking blows), but this does a lot of it better on some level.

It's just so fucking unnecessary. I think BD is a poor example, it's more like DMC4.

I'm not nearly as far along as you bros are. Not much time to play and when I do have time I find myself dicking around too much. I only just got to Africa earlier today and had two disappointments back to back. The dumbest invisible wall ever and the realization that Snake can't swim. How the **** is this the most open ended "play how you want" MGS game to date, but the baddest soldier alive can't swim?

Anyways, game is awesome, but there are tons of little things that are just wtf.

Get to finally play it, gotta do other things too (like school). I like what I've seen, the controls are really tight and the smooth framerate surely helps at that too. The start was pretty cool, that fire dude is clearly VOLGIN :D Gotta play more after school!

Oh and when it comes to the credits, I just ignore them at the start to avoid spoilers and skip them at the end, no biggie.

I took all of last week off to power through this game, because **** yeah salary life, and I had vacation time left.

I'm 66 hours, and I didn't finish the game lol. It's one of the few games where I enjoy doing the side shit, because playing the side shit is enjoyable and entertaining.

I hear that man. I planned on doing the week long binge play, but then the choice came down to making an important career move, or gorging myself on MGSV.

The side shit is cool though, because the core gameplay is killer. I don't even care what my objective is, it's the path to getting there that delivers every fucking time. I can't keep myself from getting caught up. It's like I want to zip through some parts of the game, but there is always something to distract me. Not just the side ops either. Even stupid little shit like random guard posts. I'll be like "alright Conan, just pass these dudes up"... but then I'll scope out some soldier with good stats/skills and it's like ****. Now I have to take out all the lames around him so I capture him. Then it's ok, outpost captured, might as well scoop up some materials. And just like that, it's another 10 - 15 minutes down the shitter, every damn time lol.

Game is amazing man. Even for the nitpicks I have up to this point it's still exceeding my expectations for the most part.

Dude the gameplay is so amazing, I'm like legit conflicted on everything I value about video games.

Because this destroys the other metal gears in gameplay, I mean just fucking wrecks them. But I don't think I could bring myself to say I like this more than Subsistence. I like it more than 2, I like playing 2, but this clearly is not even close gameplay wise. That and the love for MGS2's story? lol not even once.

I took all of last week off to power through this game, because **** yeah salary life, and I had vacation time left.

I'm 66 hours, and I didn't finish the game lol. It's one of the few games where I enjoy doing the side shit, because playing the side shit is enjoyable and entertaining.

Add me to the list of people who failed to complete it in the first week and keep getting sidetracked, lol :)

For the intro, Kojima thought to himself: "Let's do the microwave scene from MGS4 again"

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest of Konami charges for the "uncut ending". In fact, it's something I forsee.

The grinding is something I can roll with because goddamn is the core gameplay nothing short of brilliant. I already find myself a bit annoyed with side-ops, particularly how the ones you've already finished pop back up for you to do again for whatever reason. But because the game plays so well I find myself having fun regardless. All things considered I'm not going to bitch about being able to play more of the game despite the gross excess in content. As for the story itself, even with the cassette tapes it feels a bit thin. I like the understatedness of it all, but all the story missions have done to pull me in is the occasional "Ermigad its the Skulls!" or "Chiper sucks, let's stop 'em." You get the odd Hellbound mission, but nothing to really sink your teeth in I find. Unless this changes greatly later on I don't see the cut ending bugging me too much.

But the structure for the conclusion just sounds needlessly confusing. I just don't see how Kojima can craft the grand design for this game, and pull that DMC4 level bullshit towards the end and not think "Maybe, just maybe doing this will royally piss people off." Then again, he probably followed that thought with "Eh, **** it. I'm doing it anyway."

There is an ending, a final ending, a true ending, but there was one portion of it pertaining to a certain character that was cut out. It affects nothing else, but it leaves that character's arc dangling open, so the possibility is now there that that portion will be packaged and sold as DLC later.

Btw guys, save corruption bug, so watch out. Thankfully, it's easy enough to ignore:

http://www.polygon.com/2015/9/8/9276...t-gamesave-bug

Konami is warning players of a potential bug that corrupts their Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain game saves and makes them unusable. The bug affects all platforms of the game.

In simple terms, don't bring along Quiet as a companion for either Mission 29 or Mission 42. Doing so can trigger the corruption and kill the save file.

Konami apologized for the glitch, and indicated it would be working to patch it out in the future.

Not really. Just in case I wasn't clear, the final ending is pretty complete, and it exists and is perfectly attainable in game, just one particular character's arc was sort of left dangling, because a certain chapter was cut out. It's already available in the special edition of the game as a video, iirc.

I was just thinking. Snake needs an interpretater to understand what the Russian guards say when he interrogates them yet in MGS3 set before Sokolov complements snake on his Russian "By the way your Russian is superb, where did you learn it?"

After reading the story behind all the MGS games and how they relate to each other. Either Kojima is a genius and knew he was going to be able to make multiple games and stretch out the story or he was on every drug imaginable.

Seriously just trying to keep up with which version of Big Boss you're playing as is a headache. Plus the fact of all the other clones and organizations created from just one person. Big Boss is like his own Illuminati in the MGS series.

@MirkoS77: was it the right prisoner? There can still be multiple prisoners to save but only a specific one required to complete the side op.
