Your floor hit your ground? I know it was unintentional, but I laughed anyway...
And thanks musicalmac. Glad to see you around again!
I agree. It is definately in my top 10 best games of all time. You have to laugh at some bits, though. There's some laughably bad dialogue that discovered when replaying it that I somehow missed when I was 15. Raiden is king: "I won't let you become a dream"... Awesomely bad.
I can see why people think it's the weakest game of the series though. It's all about Raiden I guess. You either love or hate him. The whole "teh simulation" thing is also valid, but I love MGS2 because pretty much all of the characters are interesting and have backstories. In MGS3 you had some guy who fires bees at you and then explodes for no reason after you kill him. MGS2 ftw!
Are you kidding me? First of all you get the 10 minutes on each codec conversations about absolutely nothing, on top of that you get to play as a total loser of a character that nobody in their right minds would want to play as(I'm talking about the Abomination that is Raiden of course). And Gameplay is almost identical to MGS 1. Atleast MGS 3 tried to innovate, and offered new gameplay...
In short MGS 2 is the most overhyped, overrated an disappointing sequel in gaming history(IMO)

SpaceDragonMan
MGS3 made up for it though
I actually enjoyed the cutscenes playing it with some friends, but I agree that there was a few too many. We'd do an objective, then 5 minutes later, a cutscene. Objective, 5 minutes later, cutscene. Rinse, repeat. Yeah, I know, I know, I can skip it by pressing X. Well, I'd like to actually be able to know what's going on...dumbest game ever more like
90% of it was cutscenes
cutscenes that didn't make sense
NorthlandMan
By the way, nice sig.

what the hell? your floor hit the ground?
Jaw hit the floor or jaw hit the ground? Maybe that's what he meant.MGS2 was a sad excuse to lazely remake MGS1. "But teh simulation to prepare Raiden!!!11" Damn, that was lame...Wintry_Flutist
wtf? you obviously didnt pay attention to the story properly. It was revealed that it wasnt a simulation to prepare raiden, since ocelot hadnt been told the whole truth. It was a model to test the AI of arsenal gear to see if it can handle, collect and alter data in extreme cases.
to the tc, i wouldn't go so far to say it is the greatest game of all time since a lot of people wont agree, since they either dont like it or prefer another game. but i might agree with you but mgs3 is just as good, if not better. so im not sure if i would go with mgs3 or mgs2. It sad people didnt like mgs2 because the story was too deep for them to understand, and that you had to play as raiden...but he jus made snake even more badass which was what kojima was trying to do...sigh
Hmmm... I dunno about greatest, but it was damn good. I just remember spending HOURS on that demo that came with thet one robot fighting game (dom'te remember the name). Then the game came out, and I loved it soooooo much! Except maybe for some of the Raiden parts, but that was assumed, right?ryan_mirow
I remember the first time around I didn´t like Raiden so much either, but it was more of a "I want to play as Snake" thing. This time around after watching the MGS4 trailer raiden kicks ass =) I strongly believe MGS will conitnue after snake with Raiden it just makes sense.
MGS3>>>>MGS2cutmaclass1
Quoted for truth, nothing more. At least MGS4 will clarify a lot of the metaphysical technobabble. Still MGS2 is a quality game.

O definitely, Raiden looks like such a badass in MGS4. Just as long as he doesn't have an equally powerful cybernetic ninja girlfriend to make him cry the whole freakin game, i'll be all for it!

I thought that medicine woman in MGS3 was worse. "Snake, have you seen this movie yet?"
l still believe MGS on PsOne was better.
My order of preference (of the ones I played):
MGS (PSX) > MG (NES) > MGS 3:SN (PS2) > MGS 2:SOL (PS2)
I am not saying any of them are bad, it's just my preference.
i dont know why people like metal gear. the series is the more boring video game series in the world, to me. i think i rather play the trash, thats rachet and clank than this gameRahnyc4
Go watch the video review for MGS2, Greg almost looks ready to sacrifice himself to the Gods cause of this game, you probably haven´t played it.

But he did later admitted that he got caught in the hype for MGS2, and said the game wasn't as good as he once thought.Quoted for truth, nothing more. At least MGS4 will clarify a lot of the metaphysical technobabble. Still MGS2 is a quality game.SemiMaster
Kojima's thesis of Memory wasn't metaphysical. It's a little hard to grasp at first, but when you really look at what the ending addresses, it starts to make you think.
I don't care what anyone says, the ending was genius and Solidus' 'Exon' speech prior to his death was epic.
Not according to this site. Seems Tony Hawk 3 beat it out with a perfect score ;)musicalmac
Tony Hawk 3 was a perfect skate simulator, you cant compare its 10 or lets say Geows 9.6 or Killzones 6.9. Geow may PWN tony hawks 3, but tony hawks still got a better score because it was a better game for its genre. Thats why they changed the rating system, so people wouldn't try to compare apples to oranges.
