Theres no way you can argue that, other than preference, its a fact that Gears of war characters are more detailed if in fact they consist of more polygons.

who really cares about the actual count. MGS4 has the best looking player models and you just can't except that so you have to try to bash it. By the way, mgs4 looks better than gears of war 2 overall. Just face it

No its me specifically saying that installs can last up to 8 mins, its no different than the installs in between each act, you can leave or do what ever you want aswell, your still waiting though. (which is what the person I quoted complained about in gears).

They took out all that inidividual hair physics stuff sometime after the TGS realtime demo. It's a shame, some things were downgraded quite a bit.

Its because sony lied to them. The PS3 was orginally supposed to have a 1GB RAM at the time they gave them the dev kit but then Sony turned into idiots and instead went with the 2X 256MB RAM at the last minute and Kojima production recieved a different dev kit later.



Umm...AFAIK it was always supposed to have that setup ever since it was announced. The old beta devkits had 1GB of RAM, but that's because they're devkits. They would have known when making the demo that PS3 would only have 512MB.

I consider the MGS4 installs as load times. For practical purposes, they are not different from load times between stages in other games. It's not the end of the world, but it's still a bummer.

Polygons directly represent the detail in each model (Gears of war even uses higher res textures),I would say that's more of a fact than an opinion.

I remember polygon counts for a few other games and fanboys trying to make a big deal of them. Do we really care if at the the end of the day the finished product looks good? Does it really matter what resolution the game is if it looks great and runs smoothly?

I smile at all the times when consolites call hermits graphic whores when I see threads like this.

This only shows how talented Kojima Production is, making such gorgeous characters with a relative low number of polygons.

Let's not forget that there are realtime rendered scenes that involve over a dozen characters on screen at once, plus scenery and post processing effects and dust and particle effects. I don't think it would have been possible with 50k polys characters. Maybe on a ultra high end PC, and i doubt even that.

Imagine Polygon wars One guy says "gears has 100,000 polygons on each model"

the other guy says "NO UNCHARTED wins because it has 100,002 polygons on each model"

Fanboy logic worries me now :(

I still think MGS4 chars look better from the pictures and vids I saw for Gears2, not saying that Gears2 looks inferior, it looks great but It is a matter of taste. For example, I find DMC4 char models very good although they have few polygons compared to Gears & MGS.

and yet here i was thinking to myself "gee, MGS4 really does look amazing, maybe even the best looking game on consoles." but now that ive seen the light and that the characters were made with less polygons than gears i feel like an idiot. darn, what was i thinking?

That's actually... good?

It means making more from less, which is what people should aim for, rather than "lets poly the crap out of everything" - crysis.

its the same principle that makes XP>Vista. Consumes less resources, gives better result.

seriously?

Judging games are turning into such technical thing now in days

Judging games now in days -

textures, lighting , animations, pixel count, frame rate, resolution etc ... jeez

I agree, it's really getting pathetic. People pretend one game looks like trash and another game is a graphical masterpiece when in reality, they're pretty equal.

welcome to the most shallow generation of gaming, brought to you by spoiled kids with rich parents that don't care about gameplay and just want things that are visually stunning and amazing. the ones that say 'omg, it does not suck, graffix are awesome!'. the market is driven by these people - by people that put form over substance. we've been lucky this gen and had a few games where the gameplay nearly matches the presentation - but more often than not they're just shallow pretty things (Uncharted, i'm looking at you) that only last the length of an epic film, or two short films.

i'll take the gameplay over visuals any day. i only point out MGS4 low resolution to point out the hypocrisy of others. i personally don't enjoy the game because i can't stand the story, and don't enjoy the gameplay at all.

I loved uncharted's gameplay, it really grew on me. I didnt care for it at first either. It felt different but once I got used to, its one of my favorite games this gen.

What's important is the textures.. Leon on the Gamecube had 10,000 poly's as well.

It looks amazing, and plays amazing.

Mind you i havent played much of it, but still, polygons wont change my opinion on the game

LOL and to think cows used to profess that snake has more polygons in his mustache then the entire Marcus Fenix model. game looks great though and this just goes to prove that poly counts are not that importent this generation.

That's pretty low for next-gen games, it just shows good shaders will make a game look great even using less graphics horsepower.

Pfft. Even though it looks worse on the paper, then it easily holds up against pretty much, every other game, in terms of what it looks like.

it was pretty obvious, at least to a person with eyes, that they weren't that hi poly. I mean the graphics aren't that great..

Okay so they used less polygons AND made the game look better... meaning that Konami has more skilled programmers than Epic Games? So... Conrats?... I guess? Not sure what point you were making there...

anyone that thinks MGS4 is the graphics king is just a hardcore MGS fan, or a PS3 fan wanting to justify purchase.

it is OFFICIAL that the game was rendered in sub-HD resolutions and upscaled, many many many tricks were implemented to make the game appear to have next gen visuals when in truth the resolution and poly counts are closer to last gen PC titles due to some bottlenecks in the PS3.

this has been covered to death in AVS forums and places where people count pixels. funny the double standard cows love to apply - hyping the 1080p to death, bashing games that are sub-1080p on 360, then hyping MGS4 as the visual king when it is just glorified 665p (but not authentic as it cheats on some V pixels)

God, I just don't get some people. It doesn't matter how they do it, the fact is MGS4 looks better. If it's so easy to use these little tricks, why don't more games use them?

This game was the most awesome looking game I have played full stop.

So if it has a low polygon count and looks that good, i'll take that.

Seriously comparing polygon counts, are you really that much of a fanboy that the amount of polygons (simply an number) actually matter?

The proof is on the screen and I like what I see, you eyes must have been burnt out by the RROD.
