So the Xbox 360/Entertainment Division saw a profit of $870+ Million. I wonder how much Sony has lost.

[QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"]Oh and congrats to MS and the 360 for breaking the 40 mil barrier! :)SlimWifi

agreed pretty good for xbox 1.5 lol

PS2 on the market 3+ years = 60-80 million

PS3 on the market 3+ years = 33.5 million

So what does that make the failstation 3..

btw, I'm kidding about the name.

I think by now we can safely say that:

A. XBOX is a brand thats here to stay. And has done great things this gen to get the name as mainstream as it is now.

B. Its way more successful than the original.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. announced they were at 33.5 M as of Dec. 31st.

So where would they be now?

35M?

36M?

Mystic-G

As an educated guess, I would say around 36m. But that's all it is, is a guess.

I doubt they beat MS by 800k units while losing in the USA by ~150k units. Espically with the shortages.

Looking at the NPD numbers from January 2010 - March 2010 (Q4 2009); the PS3 sold 950k. Id say the PS3 probably sold around 2 Million in Q4 World Wide. So 35.5 Million sounds about right.

Microsoft was seemingly keen enough to endure the effects of the RRoD to begin with so they might not care about going through it again. I mean, the company has been around for so long and yet didn't have the sense to test the Xbox 360 sufficiently before releasing it. Who knows what they are up to this time?

Now we wait till E3 to do a proper comparison between sony and Microsoft.

ofcourse we will get the Sony had to resort to slim argument from lems and the Sony had no stock until march from Cows.

Who will win?

Will the Gap close?

Will fanboys get anything from being fanboys?

Find out on the next episode of Dragonballz... err System wars

Honestly, im not really sure how much it really matter in the grand scheme of things. Both consoles( PS3 and 360) have validated their existence IMO, and while I do give MS mad props for taking aconsole many thought would die on arrival back in 2001, and making it a household name, just as much or maybe even more so than the PS name. But, what does it really matter if PS3 does outsell 360? Seems like only fanboys will really care because they can use it for supposed ammo.

the only reason RROD was a problem was cause MS rushed it out the door. Fanboys need to stfu about RROD being a problem now especially if they bring out a slim.

Keep in mind that 40 million means just 20 million functioning consoles, thanks to the RROD. 50% failure rate means that half of this 40 million figure is just people getting replacements.IgorAntunov

1. Please stop talking.

2. you do realize RROD is pretty much fixed by now. so its not really a issue anymore.

well isnt this the truth, you get it, most dont, but in the end they will.

The ps3 hasn't even overtaken the 360 yet, and already lemmings are cooking up an excuse as an insurans policy. Previously, it was just raw sales, and now it has boiled down to 'sales without a slim' eh....

Just curious, what does the RROD rate and the amount of consoles banned from XBL have to do with units sold?

they go buy another one

Yeah instead of sending it to microsoft and getting it fixed for free, they go buy another one.

Well technically PS3 would be outselling the 360 but since MS launched a year before, so if PS3 launched at the same time they would be outselling the 360 source: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/05/ps3-worldwide-sales-cross-30-million/

XBOX 360 has not actually sold 40 million units that are in households.

They have 40 million units SHIPPED.

Through March 2010, Microsoft has shipped 40.2m X360s worldwide. While that is a strong figure, the X360 does appear to be in a slow decline.

http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-12218-Video-Game-Examiner~y2010m4d22-Microsoft-40-Million-Xbox-360-units-sold

Microsoft has released their fiscal data for the year and in this report they revealed that the Xbox 360 has sold over 40 million units worldwide since the consoles launch in 2005. In 2005 they sold a reported 5 million units and things have taken-off since then. With each seeing an increase over the last, Microsoft has managed to move a lot of units and looks to keeps things moving. The next milestone for the system will be 50 million and it looks like it'll reach that without much concern. Below, you'll find a year by year breakdown of the system sales.sold numbers, should interesting holiday season for the 360.kenmid

when sony releases their report im sure they are going to be in 35 or 36 million by now because they been winning the worldwide sales for past couple months.

Don't argue.. It's how he sleeps at night.

high software sales is the result of millions that actually do have it and choose to buy for that system, all the games that sell are because of xbox live, like wii has 60 somethin mill sold but games launch and sell under 20k in its first month, juss happins 360 buy the most games for w.e reason, there can still be a high rebuy rate of the 360

So your theory is xbox gamers randomly buy more games then PS3 or Wii gamers for no discernible reason and they also buy new consoles when they can get a free replacement, just so the numbers fit your world view?

It'll be interesting to see how much the 360 sells compared to PS3 this holiday. PS3 + Move + GT5 (hopefully) vs. 360 Slim (pricedrop?) + Natal + Reach.

a xbox 360 slim (with a pricedrop) would sell good, and if natal is a succes that will also sell systems, but halo reach wont sell a single system, GT5 will do very well for ps3, i think move will flop tho.

I think your wrong on Reach won't sell a single system. I don't think it'll sell as much as Halo 3 or Gears of War (1) but if the multiplayer and overall, the game is great, by word of mouth and Microsofts advertising the game will help push consoles.

So does anyone actually have a link that RRoD is fixed?

Squaretrade did another survey for the majority of 2009 and finds that Jasper chipsets seem to have reduced the frequencey of RROD.

Link

However, due to it only being such a short time, they do state:

"It is still too early to definitively assert that Jasper has given RROD a knockout punch, but such an argument may be pronounceable in the coming months."

They ascertained that 360 failure rates, as a whole, seem to be at 23.7%. Still higher than the PS3's supposed 10% and Wii's supposed 2.7%.

well isnt this the truth, you get it, most dont, but in the end they will.

KittenWishes

Would you honestly buy a "slim" X360 after the whole RROD fiasco? If they released one tomorrow, I would wait atleast 8 months to hear if people are complaining of RROD or other such breakdowns before buying it. If after that time, it's reliable, then I would definitely through some dough on that.

RROD has pretty much been eliminated in existing Xbox 360's. But try to stop for a moment and use your head for thinking; would Microsoft really want another repeat of the RROD? Or would they take their time developing a stable, worry-free hardware revision that doesn't require Billion dollar warranty bail-outs? ...

You are so wrong with MS fixing the RROD, I know two buddies that bought the new jasper chipsets and the RROD'ed 7 and 9 months later. Yes they would repeat the poor quality & design with the slim. all they will change is the thickness of the console. not the layout.

Im still in the camp that believes wii isnt even in direct competition to 360 and PS3. It dosent offer same experinces, and i honestly dont count it as a console like 360 and PS3 are.

And waste all the games and loss your friends on xbl?

[QUOTE="SilentlyMad"][QUOTE="djsifer01"]Thats great, how dose it benefit me?djsifer01
The 360 sales do not benefit you just like how people coming into here asking stuff like this does not benefit the thread.

Exactly my point. The thread itself is not beneficial to anyone.

This whole forum is not beneficial, but you still post on it.

I wonder how many PS3s were bought as Blu-ray players and are never used for gaming. The 360 after all has the higher attach rate.

[QUOTE="imprezawrx500"]to bad they are still over 20 mill short of the king this gen. Nintendo has destroyed the competition this gen. XboximusPrime

I'm still in the camp that believes Wii isn't even in direct competition to 360 and PS3. It doesn't offer same experiences, and i honestly don't count it as a console like 360 and PS3 are.

Whether it is in "direct competition" or not, whether it offer the "same experiences" or not, whether it is technical like its rivals or not, whether it is a console like its rivals or not, or whether you like it or not is irrelevant, as the Wii is a current-generation console. It was released in the same generation as its rivals and the industry and gaming culture overall treats it as a competitor who is leading the home console race.

Funny, because most publications and things I read and view Redicule it and constanly rag on it for being a pretty poor console. so im not sure how much of a competitot its being treated as by the gaming culture.

[QUOTE="Persistantthug"]

XBOX 360 has not actually sold 40 million units that are in households.

They have 40 million units SHIPPED.

Through March 2010, Microsoft has shipped 40.2m X360s worldwide. While that is a strong figure, the X360 does appear to be in a slow decline.

This post needs a bump. Gaming division 12% decline. 360 and wii sales are slowing down, while the ps3 are getting more steam.

[QUOTE="KittenWishes"][QUOTE="II_Seraphim_II"] Would you honestly buy a "slim" X360 after the whole RROD fiasco? If they released one tomorrow, I would wait atleast 8 months to hear if people are complaining of RROD or other such breakdowns before buying it. If after that time, it's reliable, then I would definitely through some dough on that.Game-fu

RROD has pretty much been eliminated in existing Xbox 360's. But try to stop for a moment and use your head for thinking; would Microsoft really want another repeat of the RROD? Or would they take their time developing a stable, worry-free hardware revision that doesn't require Billion dollar warranty bail-outs? ...

Are you implying that they wanted it the first time? You sure are a sorry advocate for using one's head.

Wow. You must have tried extremely hard to achieve that massive comprehension failure.

He didn't say that they wanted it the first time. He said that they don't want a repeat. Kind of like how a person might make a mistake and not want to make that mistake again.

I can't for the life of me understand how you failed to understand that. It's just surreal to me.

[QUOTE="KittenWishes"]40.2 million and they haven't even resorted to releasing a Slim console yet. Well done. However, they'll receive a massive bump in sales when Project Natal and the Xbox 360 Slim are released.Respawn-d

Microsoft making a slim. RROD is still a prob so why would they try throwing them-self back into the fire

RROD won't be a problem with a hybrid GPU/CPU, if the photo's of the motherboard posted here are correct, then the cooling system, a heatsink and a fan, is overkill
