Whether it is in "direct competition" or not, whether it offer the "same experiences" or not, whether it is technical like its rivals or not, whether it is a console like its rivals or not, or whether you like it or not is irrelevant, as the Wii is a current-generation console. It was released in the same generation as its rivals and the industry and gaming culture overall treats it as a competitor who is leading the home console race.

Funny, because most publications and things I read and view Redicule it and constanly rag on it for being a pretty poor console. so im not sure how much of a competitot its being treated as by the gaming culture.

And most publications gave Mario Galaxy the highest rating this gen, and tons goty awards.

So much for a console that's not in competition with the other two. Why did a game on the Wii win so many GOTY awards, and become the highest rated game this gen when the Wii isn't in direct competition? Shouldn't there have been two categories? The kiddy baby Wii shovelware of the year award, and then the true hardcore game of the year award?

Pretty nice compared to the first Xbox!

To be honest, I'm surprised and confused at the 360 only selling (or rather shipping) 1.5 million units from Jan 1st 2010 to March 31st 2010...

Because it makes me wonder what the hell happened to the PAL regions? In terms of the gaming market the combined regions make up like 50%.

If you combine Jan through March NPD data with YTD Media Create data you get 1.14 million. For the sake of simplicity if we assume that all those 1.5 million units sold through (even though that's improbable) you're left with only 360K units.

On a related note if Sony really is on track to move 13 million units this fiscal year then they'd need to have shipped roughly 600-700K units in Europe and other PAL regions.

XBOX 360 has not actually sold 40 million units that are in households.

They have 40 million units SHIPPED.

Through March 2010, Microsoft has shipped 40.2m X360s worldwide. While that is a strong figure, the X360 does appear to be in a slow decline.

oh, Sony better hope not, even if they have to get out and pull MS themselves.

If MS decide they're are ready for a next gen, Sony as they said will have to be ready to launch at the same time.

And given the cost of game development this gen, I predict only 1st parties will continue to support the PS3 when Sony move on. Which will render this gen a bit useless for Sony.

The longer this gen is, the more beneficial for Sony to make up for loses from the slow start and the hardware development costs.

For MS, considering their deep pockets, the RROD while unfortunate, still come out with the advantage this gen, as they get market share and leveled out with Sony.

high software sales is the result of millions that actually do have it and choose to buy for that system, all the games that sell are because of xbox live, like wii has 60 somethin mill sold but games launch and sell under 20k in its first month, juss happins 360 buy the most games for w.e reason, there can still be a high rebuy rate of the 360

half the people that bought new 360s from the stores i worked atdidnt even kno you could get a free repair, some failed for other reasons other than rrod wich is the only way to get repaired for free to my knowledge. why people buy more for 360, heck if i know, im assuming to play with their friends online since 360 is popular in the states. its not my world veiw, its what ive expeirienced.

Is making a slim model really that big a deal? Seriously?

I would have guessed that price drops are what people care more about and get people rushing out to buy the 360. Games are another "system seller". Do people really think releasing "slim" models help sales? Slim models are mostly a cost cutting measure. I've never actually thought of them as a sales tactic in terms of how they look.

Honest question here. Thoughts?
