you said "just for gaming". but to the above, well obviously hermits are going to do that. what's the point in even mentioning it? now...what about your mythological statement about most360 exclusives going to the pc?

Firebird-5

i went over this already this is just going in in cycles. most hermits already have computers to do every day tasks. they dont need 6 core an ssd and 6 gbs of ddr 3 for fire fox. they spend all of this money FOR GAMING. They can already do everything els.

so your answer to them is to lock out all other functions and give them an OS only for gaming

Which they can have installed apart from their general purpose OS.

i like xbox i like xbox live my friends play xbox i like playing with friends i like halo and gears thats pretty much it. hate playing on my PC, hate playing my ps3(stupid controller) so i play my 360 for most things. just a matter of preference. you dont like it dont buy it and move on with your life and leave those that do like it alone. pretty simple really

If MS never entered this race you think Sony would have tried as hard? Would there even be a PSN? MS entering the race made everyone else take notice. MS became a force after one generation that says something.chikenfriedrice

Exactly. And just think of what would've happened if Microsoft were to disappear out of the gaming industry after the original Xbox & if Sony were to go with a razor blade model? You would most likely be paying a lot more than $600 for a PS3, & the price would never be lowered for like, years; you would have less & less 3rd party games made for the system due to higher development costs as well as Sony making the PS3 incredibly difficult for 3rd party developers to develop their games on, & so on.

This is what all Sony fanboys need to take note & should thank Microsoft for sticking around in the gaming industry.

Microsoft is always hit or miss, they're nothing if not inconsistent.

Win7 is probably the best os I've ever used. Win8 looks like it's going to do a belly flop on launch.

Windows 8 will apparently let you do more with less because Windows 8 uses fewer system resources than Windows 7. Not sure why you think it will flop.

That's the standard MS practice. They rush the release of a beta product like Windows ME, Vista or the original 360 which is basically broken to keep their marketshare and then they release the actual tested product after everybody bought the beta one.

Microsoft is as always doing its awful business practices. Like making us pay 60$ a year for p2p online and giving us a system that breaks up to 35% of the time and changing to focusmore on causal games late into the systems life. Almost all of its games end up on the pc anyways. Every dev they buy they drive into the ground

On top of this they even push theirxbox live gimmicks into the pc.

Why do you all keep buying from them? why do you keep buying unsafe and slow windows time and time again when you can go elswhere? Why do you buy a system that took like 4 years for ms to get right? Why to you pay for online that wont let you update games without paying for it (tf2)?

dontshackzmii

You mad bro? is it because Gears 3 outscored every PS3 game since 2009?

first this is misinformation, live is a more fully integrated service which supports both p2p and dedicated servers that is up to the DEV to decide how its used. Secondly PSN doesn't have features integreted into it, its not a complete service like live is, games are built on live and online functionality comes from the OS in the 360. This is the only system that uses that model, otherwise on psn, games don't have the features ot use, so they mimic the features of live, and dev's have to make specific implementations of them.

Nay, this isn't the first time and will never be the last time of these DEIHARD FANBOYS crying like a baby on SW. Their brains have been implanted and their eyes have been tintedwith "BRAND LOYALTY". They will never understand the benifits of the word "COMPETITION" means to them and the consumer rights protection laws.

And all that integration doesn't save games lie COD from been crappy online on xbox live go figure, integration is fine, but how does it help games,in this case it doesn't many had been the complains about party chat ruining team work, worst Activision blocked the feature on some modes in COD because it was use for cheating,on a game already full of cheaters. So how does integration help the most played XBL series by far from having all those issues.? Lag cheaters does integration fix any of those problems.? So basically you get the same experience PSN users get with COD but you have to pay for it. Funny i can go into home and launch COD or several other games from there after planning strategies can you do that with live.? OH wait live doesn't have anything like home, and from home i can do cross games invites as well, but in what does that stop COD from been a cheat fest on PSN.? Yeah in nothing. All i care is pure online gaming,if xbox live deliver great integration but it biggest game by fr is broken and full of cheaters what does integration serve me for.?

But don't you think that sony should start charging with the PS Vita which has heavy social features, camera which can even be use to video chat, and even cross game party chat.? Yet instead they go free online play again,if the PS Vita is any indication i don't think sony will charge next gen,and will rather go for PSN+,and actually make party chat and other features extras of PSN+,since all i care is core online gaming i don't mind that in the least.

So... you'd have a console?

I guess you could freely customize the hardware - but having a powerful PC that only serves one function sounds silly.

kuraimen

It's not a PC, it's an OS. You can install different OS on a PC. If all the resources of the OS are dedicated to the game then you would effectively have optimized use of resources like in a console but using PC hardware and with the capacity to upgrade the hardware. Lets just say PC gaming would probably advance several times faster than it does now because now it depends on basically one company developing an API at their own pace and with their own priorities inside a general purpose OS.

So what? You have two OS, one for gaming and one for general purpose stuff? Both of which would probably at be commercial products?

Are you advocating some open source project wherein each company can develop there own API and develop it in different directions. If anything that just sounds like will lead to needless fragmentation.

i got a ps3 and a wii mostly for gaming but i still use them for other things. Main reason why many hermits buy there rigs is for gaming.

dontshackzmii

You have absolutely no basis for that. Not a single fact to back up your assumption. For all you know every PC gamer in the world could just as likely use Windows for professional or hobbyists reasons, and gaming as a secondary reason.

[QUOTE="chikenfriedrice"]If MS never entered this race you think Sony would have tried as hard? Would there even be a PSN? MS entering the race made everyone else take notice. MS became a force after one generation that says something.garland51

This is what all Sony fanboys need to take note & should thank Microsoft for sticking around in the gaming industry.

ha, nailed it.

too bad a lot of fanboys are just upset at the fact that the 360 has more critically acclaimed games than the ps3 and have to take it out on ms for creating an amazing console they can't have. ;)

All i care is pure online gaming,if xbox live deliver great integration but it biggest game by fr is broken and full of cheaters what does integration serve me for.?tormentos

1 game doesn't matter in this, you can make 1 game better then live, or one game can misuse the features, but all the games that use it can be upgraded without recompiling or patching the game,

things like voice chat are consistently good on xbox not couting brocken head sets adding crap to the voice, psn that just isn't the case, different games use different quality.

match making works great on live, not only that they have true skill match making built in for all games to use and track players.psn doens't have this, it doesn't even have a matchmaking. If a dev makes a p2p system its a bit more stable over the ps3 version unless they are phenomenal dev's. Host migration and setting up games are handled better on live due to this integration.

and people cheating has nothing to do with the network. Its up to the dev's to implement their own security to keep people from exploiting loopholes in game code or making sure every one is following the rules they created. Secondly people can get suspended/banned from xbox so M$ has some admin capability, and it means people have to get a new account along with paying again, psn doesn't do anything to stop anyone from exploiting, it's up to the dev's. PC its per server basis....

There was never a problem when only two companies (Nintendo and Sega) dominated the console market.

I really don't see why it would be any different if Microsoft/Sony withdrew from the console market.

If you think about it, MIS is indirectly responsible for the whole CoD flasco, along with things like BioShock going MP.

....confused what system before the 360 broke 35% of the time an higher? oh the 360 was the first therefor negating your comments of always having a system that has high failure rates.

How long has microsoft been charging 60 dollars a year? oh you mean the minority of the time since it used to be 50 for something like 8-9 years straight then increased in price...so your comments of always doing this are thus negated.

I always love comments such as cancer to gaming when I can point out anti competitive practices out of both Nintendo and Sony... I'm somewhat seen the light and don't defend microsoft in every thing they do anymorebut it seems your complaints are completely baseless when you don't call sony nor nintendo down.

took forever but I finally found it with the help of a friend over at destructoid.

Sony requires developers to add extra content

Is this a response to the "Nintendo is cancer to gaming" thread?

I wouldn't go that far, but it's obvious that Microsoft as a developer does not care about core gamers like Sony and Nintendo. They seem perfectly passive about letting third party devs do it for them.
