Microsoft: Halo is our bread and butter

Sure, I know, call me Captain Obvious. :P Anyway, I'm wondering if Bungie could really ever move on from Halo as they stated they wanted to do something different but it sure seems hard to walk away from the boat loads of cash that the series generates.

I simply can't wait for Reach but ODST should do the trick for now.

Discuss should you feel the need.

The Story

Halo 3: ODST is almost upon us, and Microsoft has reiteratedhow important the series is for the Xbox 360, promising that even though Bungie is done with the universe, the universe is not done with itself.

"Halo is our bread and butter," claims Bungie stalker Alex Cutting. "Microsoft Game Studios is the publisher that brought Halo: Combat Evolved to the scene, and we realized we had a good thing going there. It is a center piece for us. We will invest in Halo as much as we can to make sure it's a healthy, respected, fun franchise, and we will continue to do so.

"The Halo universe is obviously very rich in detail. There are a lot of stories to be told there. As far as the future of the franchise, I can guarantee it's something Microsoft is going to continue to invest in and make new products and exciting stuff, but I'm not going to be able to tell you, or even concept what other stuff we're doing."

Have you had enough Halo? Do you believe Microsoft has exploited it too much, or is there still plenty of life left in the franchise? For all the accusations of the series being turned into a cash cow, it's certainly not turned into Guitar Hero. Have you still got gas in your engine for Reach andODST?

But joking aside, Reach should be the last Halo game. I'm a huge Halo fan, but even I can say that it's on a border of milking. MC's story arch is done, we already got a RTS out of it, a 'tactical' shooter, and another project, don't beat a dead horse MS.

The FF's are'nt linked apart from themes and names.

Starwars games well... I guess you have a point. You could argue that they're very different and spanding multiple genres.

Maro well..... You have a point. They'ye still good though. But so Is Halo (in the eyes of many).

Lets say reach releases a year from now. Sept 2010 thats six halo games in in nine years. thta's a halo game every 1.5 years ( i know there was some time between releases) but honeslty I think MS needs to let sleeping dogs lie.Animal-Mother

I don't think it's milked per se. But in 4 games they have done 1 thing different, and thta was halo wars. At least games like FF, Mario and pokemon try to add a ton of new content. I mean look at SM64 to SMSS to SMG their all different games. Same with FF which i've played from 8 on. Each FF game has something new fresh to differentiate itself from previous titles. While halo has added some new things to the sequels I personally don't think it's enough. Bungie is working on a new IP right now, so obviously they're about to part from Halo.

Story and atmosphere are second to none.

Gameplay isn't groundbreaking, but it has enough weapons/plasmids and RPG elements to keep it fresh throughout the game. And definitely enough to experiment with to allow another playthrough.

You forgot GH:Metallica, so my guess of 23 when it's really 22wasn't that far off. Nothing wrong with Frequency, Amplitude, and Audiosurf. My hate is mostly aimed at GH and DDR. Nothing against them, just not my cup of tea I guess.
