Microsoft loves consoles and will make more, but the console market is stagnant, Spencer says.

I don't get the everything is an Xbox campaign. I understand Microsoft is selling Ultimate Game Pass though on my laptop, I can only access certain Game Pass games that I bought on Series S/X if they are available to play. Until I can play my entire Xbox/360/One on my gaming laptop then it will be a Xbox system.

It's not growing for THEM. Xbox's problems aren't everyone else's. BLOPS 6 is already a sales disaster for Xbox. LOL

The have time for phone games ;).

Technically I'm sure a lot of people have time for console games. But a game like the Witcher, or Assassin's Creed ask for a lot of time and I know that is why some people do not want to play console games anymore at a certain age.

Microsoft doesn't have much of the market share in the gaming sector anyway. I don't think they really want to continue making Home consoles. They'd rather offer a service like Gamepass where people get to be a part of the Xbox experience.

Consoles being stagnant isn't the problem, it's the lack of innovation on next-gen consoles that are becoming a problem, and it's why Nintendo Switch is different from both Sony/MS. I remember back in the old days, consoles used to be so different from gaming PC, it's why it took me longer to go full-time on PC, after the 7th gen ended, I went PC because PS4/Xbox One was just trying to be PC wannabes and nothing was innovating.

It is true. Hardware advancement is coming to a crawl. Some gamers are still foolishly wait for "true" next Gen games 😂 and the younger generation are not into console wars like the old farts. Also Xbox claim of greatest generational leap for their next system is fodder.

System selling exclusive games are also taking too long to come out and are practically being drip fed to gamers now. Hence why Sony has been trying to moneyhat as many third party games as possible. But that isn't going to happen as much anymore since devs and publishers like Square Enix are disappointed in the sales and at best some companies only want to do "console exclusive" with a day and date PC launch.

I've been working in a middle+elementary school lately and I am surprised at how popular PC gaming is among the Gen Alpha crowd. I listen to some of their conversations about PC specs and when they see me using my Legion Go for work they recognize it as a gaming PC and not a Nintendo Switch. I'm early Gen Z and I was basically the only PC gamer as a kid in school.

This too is also a problem as I said it in previous threads. Game development has taken a massive long to develop, it's why we're seeing console exclusives not coming out more frequently as we did for the 7th gen.

I'm a millennium, the reason you see more Gen Z playing on PC is mainly for streaming on Twitch, Rumble, or Kick due to streaming on PC is much easier than on consoles. I'm struggling to get myself streaming as it was after my time if you know what I mean. I play SP games all the damn time on my PC, I rarely play MP besides Halo MP. I rather just upload gameplay videos of me recording than streaming if that makes sense.

Just because console sales aren't growing massively, they aren't declining either (except for Xbox and that's because of Phil Spencer and his idiotic actions) in fact Nintendo are doing better than they ever have and the PS5 is going good.

I see it the other way around, and that's PC are overcomplicated and overpriced consoles.

🤣 "...Phil Spencer says"!?

You buffoons still listening to what Phil Spencer says in 2024?

The same Phil Spencer who, in 2017 famously said, Single Player games don't sale anymore? THAT GUY!?

This the same Phil Spencer who bold face told you all that Indiana Jones was NOT going to PlayStation 5 when it HAD to have been in development for PS5 at the very time he made that statement?

There really is a platform for everyone, including those who would buy a bridge in New York.

That last sentence is a damning indictment of Sonys intentions for ps5 pro... It's also an echo of what I've been saying for a year. Sony was only making the pro because it's expected revenue for them... Sony doesn't care that the PS5 hasn't been tapped or that you need a hundred inch OLED screen to see a difference in performance and visuals. Sony can't let the revenue slip past them despite not being able to deliver a product that gives gamers value.Spencer is right on with that comment.

This is comical given the fact that Xbox hardware sales are essentially DEAD now!

You clearly have read the room wrong with your wild and misguided assumptions of why Sony dropped the pro and at a bold $700 price tag.

Psst, SONY KNEW MS WAS GOING 3RD PARTY and they knew a xbox hardware exodus would happen!

Sony also knew many xbox fans would be looking to grift to more expensive PC as their xbox alternative. PS5 Pro is a stop-gap for Xbox Series owners looking for a home on PC but who still prefer a console experience.

Just look at the timing of Microsoft's BRANDING SHIFT announcement of "no red line for ANY xbox titles coming to Nintendo and PlayStation" and PS5 Pro's launch! The joke is on you.

You're trying to play console fanboy wars hiding behind a PC gamers mask and it's slipping off 🧐

"for our own benefit"... So you think a cheaper all digital, current gen, launch offering that allows people to jump in is in line with an astronomically priced mid gen refresh with meager upgrades...? 🤷

Very obviously, Spencer is commenting on how this unnecessary mid gen refresh isn't done as a need for gamers, as the price against paultry improvements indicates. Pro is expected revenue... Sony was going to do a pro whether game/tech development called for it or not. To Spencer's point, (and perhaps having endless money at Microsoft allows you to operate this way) there is no worthy techonolgical advancements that warrant new hardware, so why are we doing this now and who is this for? Next gen is a few years away... In the case of ps5 pro it's for Sonys books, financial targets, and the few Gamers who wet themselves after a Mark Cerney presentation.

I've always felt we control the industry more than we realize... So I'm acute to seeing trends that spell doom and gloom to the industry... I worry adopting a 700 dollar price tag in trade for the smallest of improvements is allowing a snake in the door.... And possibly the standard going forward if pro is deemed successful.

Nah, I don't own an Xbox... I'm just agreeing with Phil's point because he's right.

Also, your suggestion about Sony shadow dropping a 700 dollar console just to catch Microsoft gamers migrating to PC is just wild and flailing. Lol. I mean, what? Would've been fun to be in the boardroom when they came up with that one. 🤣

It isn't just streaming but most hit games especially those popular among kids have had their start on PC only first. Five Nights At Freddy's, Fortnite, PUBG, DAYZ, Minecraft, Roblox, Rust, Valorant, Lethal Company, Phasmophobia, and many more. The streamers are introducing them to games that aren't on consoles at the time which motivates them to get into PC gaming.

By the time these games come to consoles it doesn't really matter because they've already invested in the PC platform and there are already new hot games that aren't on consoles yet that they can play. Meanwhile as a console only player they would be waiting through very long droughts of exclusive games worth buying the system for (Playstation 5) or they have good exclusives releasing consistently but can't play some of the cool hit 3rd party games everyone else is playing because their system isn't powerful enough (Nintendo Switch).

Basically PC is the cool kids platform now where you want to play on if you want to keep up in discussions on the hot new games streamers are playing and play with everyone else.

Even though the physical PC games section in brick and mortar stores has disappeared or is confined to a tiny shelf, the PC gaming hardware sections have expanded and are just as big if not bigger than the console gaming sections nowadays. The the PC handhelds are even on display in Gamestop, Best Buy and Target.

@gifford38: i have gow2, and hfw and miles morales too. Got them on my pc. These types of games aren't my type, just a lot of walking and talking, and honestly not many people buy a Playstation for these games. The only games most people buy a console for are the sports games, call of duty and gta. Those are the big 3. Spiderman is a good game too, and has a big following but most people aren't going to buy a ps5 for that. Especially when the competition has just as good first party games like doom, starfield, Indiana Jones, halo, forza etc.

End of the day, cost is important and value is important. People see that Xbox has just as good games and they're on gamepass, while Playstation is asking for $70 for their games. Xbox is bringing out exciting new games while Sony is milking the rehashes, remasters and remakes, and walking simulators

@blaznwiipspman1: but that is the point games like Indiana Jones and starfield will be on ps5 as well on top of everything listed. Those games might not appeal to you but people that buy ps5 know what they are buying. Yes pc can play them all to. But as a console ps5 has way more choices than series x.

Yes, PHil Spencer did say that SP games don't sell nor it doesn't have an impact. YES, THEY DO HAVE AN IMPACT. FOREVER

The audience for those big story-driven games… I won’t say it isn’t as large, but they’re not as consistent,” says Spencer. “You’ll have things likeZeldaorHorizon Zero Dawnthat’ll come out, and they’ll do really well, but they don’t have the same impact that they used to have, because the big service-based games are capturing such a large amount of the audience. Sony’s first-party studios do a lot of these games, and they’re good at them, but outside of that, it’s difficult – they’re become more rare; it’s a difficult business decision for those teams, you’re fighting into more headwind.”

And 10 months ago Phil Spencer literally said that there will be more Xbox gsmes on other platforms, just Xbots refused to believe it

@gifford38: Nobody buys a ps5 to play the crappy exclusives, even sony knows that, which is why they're putting their exclusives on pc to get back some sales. Its all about 3rd party, and xbox has some of the best 3rd party support around with gamepass. Gamepass subscriptions are going through the roof thanks to CoD. A lot of playstation fans seem to think that getting an xbox plus gamepass is a better deal than getting it on playstation.

@mojito1988: Gaben has captured over 80% of the PC gaming market, he has a monopoly. And the worst part is they think it's a good monopoly, yes they have options to shop elsewhere except they rarely do, and not having physical as an option is also a bad thing which currently is a PC problem.

If consoles were to go away, gaming would be by FAR worse off. Let's hope we can have more options in the future and not less.

so what 3rd party support does xbox have that ps5 does not have? silent hill2,rise of ronin, steller blade, helldivers2? ps5 rocked the third party exclusives this year.

That is correct I am referring to the cheap last gen box that hinders Xbox Series X to the point some devs skips Xbox to not deal with Series S. There is no need for a cheaper but shit option or a $700 meager upgrade console.

@loudheadphones: Thanks for confirming what I said;

He didn’t say SP games don’t sell.

“THEY’LL DO REALLY WELL, but they don’t have the same impact that they used to have, because the big service-based games are capturing such a large amount of the audience.”

Aaaaand he didn’t say Indy will never come to ps5. Cows are clinging to a quote he made when asked about THE FIRST FOUR GAMES that were coming to ps5.

“ When asked directly by moderator and former IGN editor-in-chief Tina Amini if any of those four exclusives going multi-platform were Starfield or Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Spencer replied, "They are not Starfield or Indiana Jones."

Sit down.

lol….did you even listen to your own source?

”It wasn’t coming (And then it was coming).”Whoever that is in your video knows that Spencer said that Indy was not one of the games going to ps5 - when asked if it was one of the first four games announced.

Spencer said it wasn‘t one of the four unannounced games heading to ps5, but didn’t say “Indy is never going to ps5”.

Spencer never said Indiana Jones isn’t coming to ps5

honestly, i don't understand the confusion other than the acknowledgement that gaming habits have changed..

  • Xbox console gamers are still "lems"..
  • PlayStation console gamers are still "cows"..
  • Nintendo console/handheld hybrid gamers are still "sheep"..
  • PC gamers are still "hermits"..

moving forward, the main changes come from the fact that you don't necessarily need to buy an Xbox or PlayStation console to enjoy the vast majority of their content.. you can do so on a PC.. so does that make PC gamers into manticores by default?..

same goes for sheep.. i mean, how many hardcore gamers on this forum actually use only a Switch to play all their games?.. i think it's safe to say that most Switch owners have other hardware they game on in addition to their handheld.. does that make Switch owners into manticores by default?..

and in terms of lems, you can definitely play all Xbox games on PC (or even the cloud) on Day One.. so if you're an Xbox fan who primarily games on PC, are you also a "hermit" and/or "manticore"?.. the same concept can be applied to PlayStation fans who have opted to move to PC since all those games are basically timed exclusives now..

maybe, just maybe, these labels are simply outdated?.. 🤷‍♂️

@loudheadphones: Thanks for confirming what I said;

Sit down.

He implied that SP games don't sell. Oh boy, how he was wrong. And still wrong today.

@loudheadphones: He implied nothing of the sort, and you should actually read what he says.

“ I love story-based games. I just finished [LucasArts-inspired RPG] Thimbleweed Park – I thought it was a fantastic game. Inside was probably my game of last year. As an industry, I want to make sure both narrative-driven single-player games and service-based games have the opportunity to succeed. I think that’s critical for us.”

But he did say that SP games don’t sell CONSISTENTLY as well, and he’s right….just because you say someone “implied” something, doesn’t make it so. He never said it.

The fact of the matter is Microsoft struggles to make compelling games to play on their said consoles. It's not that consoles are stagnant.

The Switch did really well this gen. Maybe a better strategy for the other console makers would be to not all pursue high-end graphics and big budgets, and traditional hardware.

Xbox always had and especially now after the yuuuge studio acquisitions has the most compelling games on the planet.

I would argue the Wii U had an impressive, compelling library of games and got trounced by Xbox and PS. What happened there? ;o

Suffice to say; if Nintendont would have launched the Switch as a traditional Home console along with their usual handheld offerings, the Switch Console would have bombed bigly. Bank baby!! :P

As always, Uncle Phil is spot on and why NextBox will be a Windows OS lite, PCBox/Handheld combo that plays everything. :D

@rewgle: It’s your opinion….not a fact. You might not be feeling Halo, Forza, COD, Diablo, Warcraft, Elder Scrolls, Gears etc and that’s fine…. but they’re some of the biggest names in gaming, and very compelling to me and millions of others.

Totally agree with your second point though.

Xbox Is Getting An Exciting New Feature Soon, It Seems

Microsoft continues to expand what's possible on Xbox.

It looks like Microsoft could soon roll out a new Xbox feature that allows users to stream Xbox games that are not currently available on Game Pass. Reporter Tom Warren shared images of the Xbox Cloud Gaming pages for High on Life and Dying Light 2, which note that they are playable via streaming when purchased. Players also need a Game Pass Ultimate membership to stream games.

This could be a signal that Microsoft will roll out Project Lapland, the reported codename for the ability to stream games you own. Warren previously reported that this could happen as soon as November 2024, and that may be coming to fruition. This will reportedly begin with a testing period for Xbox Insiders (sign up for free here) before rolling out to everyone later. Previously, a game had to be in the Game Pass library to stream--but this is apparently expanding to more games soon.

Launching this feature in November lines up with the ability to buy Xbox games directly from the Xbox app on Android, which goes live this month. This will seemingly allow people to buy an Xbox game on their Android device and then stream it right away.

Then where are they? Where are these compelling games?

I think you can throw money around like it's nobody's business, making all of these acquisations, and it still doesn't mean a whole lot when the great games aren't coming out of the woodwork.

I have supported the XBOX brand pretty regularly since the 360 years, and while I think the start of the XBOX One years was alright, things very clearly went downhill for the company around that time with the "Always On" and Kinect requirements, which they (thankfully) did away with a few months later. Then there was the debacle with The Master Chief Collection, which was released in a very broken state. They worked tirelessly to improve it, of course, but we didn't really see the fruits of that until almost the Series S/X days.

Microsoft ran into countless issues with promising games being cancelled, and other games being delayed and then releasing in a depressing state anyway. Scalebound and Crackdown 3 spring to mind immediately, and respectively. There was the Phantom Dust remake that resulted in Microsoft scratching their heads and deciding, "Okay, we'll just give you the original game for free with some weird online elements."

Most of the really worthwhile releases were smaller games like Ori, Battletoads and Hi-Fi Rush.

I guess I still fail to see where Microsoft is really impressing with most of their major offerings. I do like that they decided to bring Age of Empires games to console, even if they are probably much better on the PC. 2 and 4 are probably the only XBOX purchases I made within the last year or two and don't regret. Don't get me started on the travesty that is Starfield....

I am feeling Warcraft for sure, since WoW is pretty much all I've been playing the past few months. And I'm aware Microsoft bought Acti-Blizz. But I don't really think I owe Microsoft credit for that when it seems as though Blizzard is still chugging along as usual supporting their MMO. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't suspect Microsoft had a ton of impact on The War Within.

Halo has been struggling for years. I held in there and declined to blame 343 for the state of Halo, but after Infinite... Yeah, I guess I kind of do blame 343. Maybe Bungie really was to thank for everything that went right with Halo. And I think there were some things I liked about Infinite, but overall it was such a mess... The fact of the matter is, the last time I really enjoyed a Halo campaign or multiplayer, it was a game made by Bungie.

I'm not really a Forza fan, but more power to the car enthusiasts that are. I did get Forza Horizon 5 I believe a few years ago, and I thought the graphics were pretty nice. But that was about it.

Don't care about COD.

I did buy Diablo 4, but decided after playing for a little bit that the series still really isn't my cup of tea.

Elder Scrolls, I guess the only thing new that's really been going on there for the last decade is ESO. Which, maybe it's good? Idk. I think most people are just kind of waiting for 6 to happen.

Never cared much about Gears, either. I did buy into Fortnite and play that a lot for over 2 years there, and that was made by the people at Epic.

They're almost quite literally everywhere.

Well except BS Jive. ;o

But I suppose if you don't like all the great 1st party games on Xbox now and the mountain of games in the pipeline coming; well, there's just no accounting for poor taste in gaming. Stick with BS Jive I guess. lol :P

I love how keyboard warriors think they know more about a business than a successful CEO in that industry…
