This just makes no sense. When microsoft announced that UK 360 owners could get Sky through their Xbox 360 boxes, did anyone believe they could get it WITHOUT being a sky subscriber? Of course not. Failing to point out the blatantly obvious is not being misleading. They said the xbox now gets ESPN Live. Obviously if your ISP doesn't carry ESPN Live you cant benefit from that, just like you cant get Sky on your 360 if you're not a Sky subscriber. If people believed they could magically GET espn somehow despite not having it at all then that's their issue as far as i'm concerned. Did microsoft deliberately set out to make believe people they could get ESPN when they cant? Absolutely not, and indeed have no reason to.Ninja-Hippo
why would it cost money for a app.them saying free for gold members implied it was all free.

even though it does cost money for the app:lol:

[QUOTE="KevinButlerVP"][QUOTE="HarlockJC"] How is Kinect misleading? CDUB316

they have demos that are pre-recorded

so all the hands on videos from giantbomb, IGN, GS etc. were all pre-recorded as well........???

No just their live demonstrations had pre-recorded video.

MS wants and hopes people make this mistake. Then when they find out they may have already bought a 360...and instead of returning it maybe they would decide to keep it for the great games? Which equals of course a sale for MS. And this is the overall goal.

How is Kinect misleading? HarlockJC

Did E3 attendants get to try the product or was everything handled by actors/staff? That's the misleading part.

Nintendo's 2006 E3 didn't really have that much fanfare. What they did was put the Wiimote in the hands of the public. Sony did the same thing last week with their Move thingie. Right now, an entire year after its presentation, Kinect is all trailers, staged "demos", an elephant, and a few testimonials from people inside the industry (and that includes video game "journalists").

This is not misleading at all. They partnered with ESPN and said they were bringing ESPN 3 content to the 360. If ESPN 3 doesn't work with your ISP, that's ESPN's fault and your ISP's fault, not Microsoft's.

Nick955, when did you first ask?, I saw you claiming you already asked in the Twisted Metal thread but that was locked.

i dont fully understand.. So if you dont have espn 3 on your cable you cannot have it on xbox? Is espn3 an extra service that has to be paid for?

yes. If one can already run ESPN3, they are paying for it via their ISP.

Thats the thing. MS failed to mention one important detail. Right after they said all Gold members they should of mentioned that if your ISP does not support ESPN3, you wont be able to get it even if you pay for GOLD.

If your ISP supports it, you can go to ESPN3.com right now and enjoy and it should work on your 360 when out.

yet again, Microsoft announced something and was free and clear what it meant, it was free for all live gold users, because you cant use it because of your cable and internet service provider its Microsofts fault and they are misleading? no sorry.WilliamRLBaker

It's misleading because it's not free to all xbox live gold users, it's free to all gold users who ALSO happen to have access to espn3 from their ISP. Since this wasn't mentioned, the many people who have gold and not espn3 were misled into thinking they were getting something they weren't. Sheesh...

Uh, they said ESPN was coming to the Xbox 360, free for all gold members. They never said it's the samething as ESPN3.com. They should have at least mentioned that very important detail.

KevinButlerVP

Yeah because Sony flat out tells you "We are going to take away featrures you already paid for and you're goint to like it" And guess what? They were right. But to be fair Sony doesn't ALWAYS be upfront with people. Like misleading people into buying CDs when they are actually getting rootkits.

I didn't expect the ESPN service to be anything special. Every time MS adds something to XBL it's already available on the internet. ESPN3 is no different than the additions of Facebook, Twitter, Last.fm, etc. All they've done is design the interface to make it quicker and simpler to get to ESPN from your Xbox. So of course you'll only get it if your IP provides it, seeing asit just streamsfrom your internet connection. They weren't gonna create special dedicated servers just to add a sports media feature to XBL.

only reason this affects me at all is because I have Uverse which this will work with, but my cable is on other TV's in my house, my game room TV doesnt have cable, so now at least I can watch ESPN from more of my TV's

still fairly pointless though.

Of the big 3, which one of them DOESN'T give misleading info? Look at Sony's E3 the year before the PS3 launch. Why didn't the actual games look like their BS trailers? Misleading! Use your own brain, and it's a lot harder to be misled. Given your screen name though, I'd expect you to give Sony a free pass.

BigJerm1

When, since the launch of the PS3, has Sony given misleading info? Compare the number of times that Sony did to the number for Microsoft and you'll know why people tend to dislike MS more from the two.

It looks like you guys don't know what misleading means.

From dictionary.com:

mis·lead    /mɪsˈlid/ Show Spelled [mis-leed] Show IPA verb, -led, -lead·ing.

–verb (used with object)

1. to lead or guide wrongly; lead astray.

2. to lead into error of conduct, thought, or judgment.

–verb (used without object)

3. to be misleading; tend to deceive: vague directions that often mislead.

They don't need to the devs do it for them, GT5, KZ2 trailer, etc. As much as I like the systems, they all mislead because of overhyping. No one is that much worse than anyone else, people are grasping at straws here. The statement can be left as is with an asterisk that reads "must have ESPN3 supported ISP", which is a large majority of highspeed internet users. Not that big of a deal.

Anyone who watched the KZ2 trailer knew it was CGI - again, it was obvious. I don't know what you were referring to with GT5, though. The difference here is that it required previous knowledge to know what they meant.

Having been a huge xbox supporter for the past 5 years I've never been this dissapointed. Kinect is a joke and half the demos they showed were pre-recorded. A lot of the information about kinect was greatly overexaggerated (see last E3 for reference) and this entire ESPN thing just puts the nail in the coffin. Not only has microsoft lost many exclusive titles (most to the PC, some to the PS3) it's throwing full priced shovelware games at us.

After Sony announced there parternship with valve, exclusive content with medal of honor and assassins creed 2, new twisted metal and the killzone 3 footage I really for a moment considered selling my 360 and all it's games on ebay. The only thing stopping me is halo reach, gears of war 3 and fable III (which isn't even a true exclusive) not to say it'll be a bad game because it most likely won't it's just sad that sony is really starting to dominate not only in sales but in exclusives and games in general.

Kinect is a huge gimmick that has been greatly overhyped and is going to be impossible to use in hardcore games. The only thing kinect is going to have use for is voice commands when the hardcore gamer is feeling to lazy to get up and stop, rewind or fast forward a movie. Like sony said at there conference in order for a game to appeal to the hardcore audience the controller needs buttons because it adds a entire depth to gameplay.

I might pick up move but it's doubtful unless a game I like will benefit from it greatly.

It was obvious that they did for the trailers, but how do you know they did for E3?

Some of them were real, Your Shape, for example seemed live. Some of them were question marks. Some seemed quite staged, e.g. the Forza Kinect tech demo was staged, there's a gif floating around of it where it has "negative lag". And Skittles can't really be tickled.

That doesn't necessarily mean they don't work though.

how can one mislead without leading you?

they left it out, but, did they say EVERYONE could use it, or lie, lead you? etc...

HavocV3
Ummm by showing ESPN and acting like everyone will get it. They don't have to explicitly say that everyone will get it without it being misleading. Imagine a new game being released for PS3 ONLY that is shown at the Microsoft press conference. One would assume that it would be available on 360 right? Are you saying that because the makers of that game didn't say it wasn't for 360 that people would be wrong in feeling mislead by the presentation?

What's strange is there isn't even an option to pay for the service yourself. That seems like they are really trying to bend cable companies over a barrel and charge them for content they won't be using.

I don't like this, it kind of goes against net neutrality. I don't want my cable company to pay for, and charge me for, internet content a piece at a time. Bogus.

sad just sad, Microsoft doesnt do anything wrong, but gets all the hate. to clear things up why not everyone can get it.

1. other countrys have different laws, which is why lots of things the states get no one else gets.

2. easyiest reason why ESPN isnt for everyone, because the companys dont want it. ESPN clearly has a deal with those companys, so if any 360 users can use it, than those ISP might loss protental sales.

3. stop blaming microsoft. sometimes I think everyone here owns there own a company in the gaming world.

[QUOTE="RogueShodown"][QUOTE="Zoso-8"]Who cares about ESPN. They used prerecorded demos for their E3 presentation . Mega fail.shinrabanshou

That doesn't necessarily mean they don't work though.

ok if skittles cant really be tickled how do you even play the game? just pet its back over and over and over again?
