[QUOTE="credibilityzero"]By the way, it's a Xbox 360 Keynote address, would you expect any different? Of course there will be Xbox 360 logos and gamertags; sheesh.Yea sure, whatever floats your boat.
If they didn't show their gamertags in the background then you are right.
Let me provide you with another comment.
"With Xbox 360 we have an answer, She's going to rejoin us" talking about Velocity girl WHICH HAS A GAMERTAG IN THE SCREEN BEHIND Allard.
Tell me again how many people playing online on 360?
Stevo_the_gamer
Oh my, this is starting to get rather... sad to be honest. I'll put it in simplist terms for you laddy, mm'kay?
Before the "one billion mark" statement, Allard said the following:
"Thirty years ago we saw the birth of this industry with the arrival of the first 2D games, games that appealed to everyone. They found a very broad audience that numbered in the tens of millions. Andwe all remember those great ads from that era where entire families gathered surrounded the TV on the couch playing games together. Well, then we made the leap, the leap from 2D to 3D and we expanded and jumped our industry past the hundred million mark. But at that very same time wenarrowed our scope to a much more limited demographic."
Now, when he says "We" -- he's referring to the gaming industry as a whole, it's clear as day.
"Today, we're poised to make the leap again, this time from 3D to the HD era. Now, of course the HD era is about high-definition graphics and unbelievable sound but the implications of the HD era are even more profound than that. It's about the ability to connect with your communities and to personalize your experience, it's about unleashing the creative power of human energy. If we work together to create games and experiences that really deliver on the promise of the HD era, as an industry we'll take games places they've never been before. In the HD era, weare going to reach 1 billion people with our medium. (Cheers, applause.)"
Then why he didn't talk about all when he was being arrogant and telling people.
"With Xbox 360we have an answer. She's going to rejoin us because we're delivering a fresh set of services designed to nurture community and to broaden game play. To expand the market, we're going to deliver more casual game experiences on-demand through the Xbox Live Arcade. Whether retro, puzzle or just plain-old time killing games like solitaire, we're going to have an amazing assortment of games available. "

It's common sense. We know the Xbox brand has lost MS billions of dollars. Them making 500 million is awesome, but the RROD alone costed them more than a billion, and it's still costing them.Someone's new to gaming I see. It's call PR -- or hyping his system, whatever you want to call it, anyways -- he started with the gaming industry as a whole and then moved to the Xbox 360, a good introduction to the product he was showcasing. It's a keynote address, I mean... are you thinking this is some sort of conspiracy? You took it out of context -- deal with it. He talks nothing of sales, it's all simple and basic PR stuff. He never once mention the Xbox 36 was going to sell one billion systems -- just I mean, the Beatles never sold a billion records... but they sure as hell reached out to that many people around the world. Then why he didn't talk about all when he was being arrogant and telling people.

First, second, last, does it matter, if MS make their moeny and continue to grow, they are happy, which is exactly what they have done. The PS3 is going to take more than a decade to see its losses recouped, do you think Sony are satisfied in just beating the 360?Gaining markshare and building a name brand is considered nothing?
Ohh right.... I forgot..... we are in SW.....Where logic and common sense goes out the window

They didn't gain anything, Nintendo is taking Sony's marketshare now, and if you are telling me selling 1.5-2.5M annualy more compared to the Xbox original is gaining then you are wrong because this is the normal thing to happen after being in the industry, more people will recognize the brand which is natural, they didn't make a big jump in sales from last gen to this gen to say they gained something.

So you're spinning the expansion of the Xbox brand to be a bad thing?
By knocking Sony down, they eliminated a threat. Nintendo doesn't have the same plans for the living room that Sony does; they just want to make a game machine and sell it at a profit. MS really needed to stop Sony from establishing themselves any further; otherwise, they'd find the media PC market taken from under them before it even started growing.lowe0Yeah MS really arent afraid of Nintendo, there goal to enter the market was to stop Sony, and they have... at the cost of 7.17 billion though (although they have clawed back 500 million).

[QUOTE="Rocky32189"]They've gained a foothold in the industry -- and Nintendo and Sony do not pass Microsoft or brush Microsoft off either, they know Microsoft is heavy competition when it comes down to what matters---the games. Believe it or not laddy, Microsoft knew before they launched the Xbox and Xbox 360 that they were going to be in the red, but that hasn't stopped them from reaching the black a few times. They make money of each Xbox 360 sold, and they make a lot of money off software, XBL, and accesories. You're acting as though Microsoft is the biggest financial loser of off-time -- they're not. They've made mistakes, but they made up for those mistakes rather quickly unlike some other company we know. Ahem. Sony. If I was you... I wouldn't be worrying about what companies make financially, or hardware sales ect. I'd be worrying about which company can bring me the best games in the industry (on consoles). And guess who's doing that... I'll spell it out for you laddy. M.I.C.R.O.S.O.F.T.We're talking about what Microsoft gained, "laddy". Nearly Any word in the English dictionary can be taken a pethora of ways.I don't view expanding the market as a good thing. Look at the Wii lineup, you want all three systems lineups to look like that one day? Games were better when gaming was for nerds. The more games try to appeal to everyone, the less they fully satisfy anyone. Especially core gamers.VegetaJr

A mix of both is good, unfortunately, they way its going, it seems the only viable option in gaming is to go casualThe market isnt expanding, its only going backwards
Gained nothing?
- MS has gained market share while Sony has lost market share.
- Microsoft has gained the most critically acclaimed library of games of the current gen consoles while Sony has lost that.

1- As I said before, they gained nothing, it is only an expansion, there isn't so far a jump in sales that is significant to say it is way better than last gen.
2- Most the big hitters are Multi-platform games stolen from Sony.

A loss is loss. That is a fact you cannot change. What opinion you have on the facts is irrelevant. Its factually proven that a loss occurred.
Stealing which is a silly term in the business world. Well let me define what you are trying to say.
Microsoft GAINS a game while Sony LOSES a game. This is in actuality a swing because a loss to you with a gain from a competitor is considered 2x gain.
Example. Sony = 1 and MS = 0
Sony loses game would be Sony -1. MS gaining game would be +1.
1 - 1 = 0
0 + 1 = 1
Thus the swing.
Glad I'm not the only one who can actually comprehend the message Allard was conveying; I'm literally dumbfounded that people here are actually taking the OP seriously and taking what he's saying to heart, don't be so gullible fellow SystemWar'ers -- watch the video, or read what he says here. If you watch the interview he actually said the industry would reach one billion people this generation, not sell one billion consoles. In fact I don't think he even said the word "sales" the entire time. Certainly not with any remote connection to the billion people comment. Basically he was talking about the entire gaming industry and not specifically about sales. This was established years ago but cows ignored all reason and preferred to pretend he ment sales so they could use it as a lame counter to all of Sony's lies at e3 2005. Even if it were true it would be a bad prediction not a lie. Internally MS wanted to sell 50 million but never made any public predictions.credibilityzero
Thank you for sharing this link because I was having a hard time to quote what proves what they were aiming for which is 1B consoles sold.
Here are some of his quotes:
"A billion people this generation; well, that's a big number but I know we can do it."
Then he says.
"we thought very differently about our approach when in designing the product"
"Out of the gate we knew we had to create an amazing product that would blow the roof off gaming for our core audience"
Then he went and explained what their product will cater to by giving examples like Striker, Velocity girl and beat builder while they were showing in the screen behind him the gamertags of each demographic he were talking about, that mean they wanted 1B people in their XBL so don't give me the famous "hey they didn't say sold"
They were shooting for a billion people to "experince" the 360.Yea Sony lost something ( sales/marketshare ) but MS didn't gain anything ( sales/marketshare ) from their dirty strategies.

The User base for the 360 is larger then that of the PS3. Meaning that MS has gained market share. Why are you trying to oppose the facts? It is a fact that MS has gained market share not only in the console market but compared to their previous entry in the original xbox.
Wow let's bring up the past , spin it and try to claim ownge...

Yea Sony lost something ( sales/marketshare ) but MS didn't gain anything ( sales/marketshare ) from their dirty strategies.
1. MS is closing in on the 4 year total of the original xbox(over 3 of which the machine was priced at 200 bucks or less May of 02 - November of 05). It has done this in 3 years with less than one month so far of sub 200 dollar price points. Let's see where things stand in a year or two.
2. What exactly are MS's "dirty" strategies. When they revealed the xbox 360 in may of 05, they showed real games due out that year, and made real claims about its power. Sony overstated everything about the PS3(Dual 1080p displays, all games 1080p, 3x as powerful as the 360, "network storage", "cell clusters" helping game rendering, PS3 being a network hub), they showed games not due for YEARS or not at all and used FAKE footage to display the "power" of the PS3, made false claims about its release date(hey we're coming out in spring of 06, why buy a 360 when you can buy a machine 3x as powerful less than 6 months later, then when spring comes "hey, it's only 6 months before you get the uberconsole just wait, then when it comes out and is merely a 360 with a BR drive, "hey, we'll be better just wait until devs learn to use the PS3.) There is NO way you can call MS's strategies "shady" unless you're willing to call sony's downright disgusting.
