[QUOTE="angelkimne"]Can't you just buy 800 points + 400 points for the same price?Rockman999I don't know, I read it was more expensive that way.It's the same. $4.99 for the 400 point package and $9.99 for the 800 point package. 80 points to the dollar is the US standard. Sounds like parity to me.
no MS is just in the business of running a profitable business. which is really odd behaviour for a company i knowLike people have pointed buy 800 and 400.
This removal of 1200 point is only for tricking people who are dumb or lack logic to buy 1600 points.
Whole MS point system is total screwing of customers, though.
Nohtnym
First, you need a way for cash-only people to buy in (thus you need things like the 1600-point cards). Second, as I understand it, the point costs can be international (meaning something in more than one region costs the same 800 points or whatever).By that logic they may as well remove all point totals except 400.
400x2 = 800
400x3 = 1200
400x4 = 1600
Personally, I think they should have dropped the point thing altogether. If something costs $10, say it costs $10 and let me pay $10 to buy it. No need to have this point system complicating things.Ginosaji
To the surprise of many, Microsoft has removed the 1200 point purchase option. This being the most popular of the group due to the fact that most map packs (i.e. the new Modern Warfare 2 map pack) and most Xbox Classics run around 1200 Microsoft Points. Now the only option that gamers have are 400, 800, or 1600 point plans. Bumping up the cost to gamers almost $10.00 when purchasing game add-ons, Microsoft has worked their way back into the wallets of gamers once again. Link Wow, lets see how the usual cast of characters are going to spin this. :|Rockman999
Yeah, I hope nobody spins anything. I hope they just give this post the response it deserves and that is: who gives a ****
The point purchases online always cost the same per point. There is no discount for buying more points at one time.That's ridiculous. Unless the 400 & 800 point purchases amount to the same cost as the 1200 points, then this is a blatant attempt at making more cash at the expense of the customers. I buy the 1500 points cards anyway, so it doesn't really bother me. They are already making a killing off of Arcade games. Banjo Kazooie & Perfect Dark cost $20 AUS each.

The point purchases online always cost the same per point. There is no discount for buying more points at one time. EXACTLY. There is NO REASON TO be mad at this There is no discount for buying MORE AT A TIME JUST BUY 3 400 POINT PACKS. no more argument. It's the same price just have to click MORE.[QUOTE="Twin-Blade"]

It is NOT the most popular option and for having NEVER bought anything from the XBL marketplace, your opinion and thoughts on this matter are just about as valid as your thought that it would cost more to buy an 800 and 400 point set together instead of a 1200 one. Pointless and without merit. NedemisI was going by the website I linked and a large number of non-psn exclusive games and DLC on the PSN store that started off costing $15 before they received price reductions later on.
I care because I've obviously been interested in Halo Reach and when the time comes I'll eventually have to pay for XBL and deal with that. Here's a question for you, why do you care about what I care for?So you don't have Xbox Live then? And you care because?

except there's more tax according to the poster above.
and wow btw. You are really defending MS here, hard.
Microsoft is taking our money, but it doesnt matter because they give us party chat.......right? ;)SenorGuapodon't worry... sony will be charging you for party chat soon enough
Why can't they just get rid of the point system all together.
And just use simple money.
Or does that just make to much ******* sense for Microsoft.
dercoo
both Nintendo/MS use a points system. from my understanding, it reduces credit card transaction fees. whether or not it also creates more paperwork, there might be more to it.
MS should AT LEAST adapt to a more simple point system, like Nintendo's. but if they're making fools of people who can't divide by 80, then let them. learn your maths.

I just completed my AP Calculus coarse...
Still a stupid transaction approach.

and what's Nintendo doing?
pricing more games at odd intervals than MS and using a similar point system?
weird how they go unnoticed.
1200 was unneeded because 800 + 400 is the exact same price. That said, the point system sucks, and I wish that you could buy the DLC directly instead of buying points to use on the DLC.

I have little care for nintendo. But what you say it seems nintendo is screwing people too with same type of or worse point system. Still I can't understand why you responsed to my post with nintendo, you trying to diminish what microsoft is doing?
[QUOTE="Rockman999"][QUOTE="angelkimne"]Can't you just buy 800 points + 400 points for the same price?NedemisI don't know, I read it was more expensive that way. How so? Tax is the same percentage wise no matter what dollar value you place on something in your state. It's not like you're going to be taxed more for buying a $10 and $5 set then buying a $15 one. Where ever you read that obviously wasn't written by someone older then 10 because it's simple math and whoever says otherwise is an idiot.
I don't think I've ever had to pay taxes on psn transactions. Is that something to do with location of the parent company or something?

Depends on your location. Some places, like New York, come down hard on companies that don't charge sales and use taxes on their residents (and have legal and technical means to detect those violations and to punish those who don't collect--ask Amazon and Microsoft).But what if you only have cash? And don't say prepaid Visa cards since they charge steep processing fees.1200 was unneeded because 800 + 400 is the exact same price. then why do you care about MS? their (Nintendos)system is better, in terms of conversions, but they price more items at odd intervals.
Don't know how I'm trying to diminish MS's acts(or damage control, like your first post), but putting them on an equal level, is it really fair to say they're the only ones doing this. I just found it weird that everyone knows about MS, but Nintendo goes undiscovered, but maybe I'll keep that to myself from now on.
idk why you're debating theories, because I just find it too hard that removing the $15 option is manipulative, I doubt whoever they fool is going to pay for credit card transaction fees that MS must cover. I tend to think their shoddy point system that resulted in their court case required them to have a $5 and $10, $20, $50.
but that's my theory as well.

I care about MS point system because I would like to buy xbla games without paying over the value and leaving me with small amount of points only good for buying pointless overpriced themes.
Why you insists nintendo vs. microsoft fight with me? Like I said I don't have any care for nintendo. And I can't see how nintendo even belong to this thread, but this is what system wars is, right?
I find it that removing 1200 points is due to trying to get people buy 1600 over 800+400. Makes most sense too seeing microsofts track record with moneymaking.
Microsoft is screwing people with MS point system.
Why can't Nintendo and MS just let us buy points in increments of 100? Why the odd increments? Why should I have to make multiple transactions or pay more than I need to to get enough points?
So they can get more of your money, it'd be far better to allow everyone to simply input their debit/credit card details and buy whatever they wanted and allow them to buy cards at retail which already has a certain amount of money. Same with Nintendo.Why can't Nintendo and MS just let us buy points in increments of 100? Why the odd increments? Why should I have to make multiple transactions or pay more than I need to to get enough points?
nintendoman562
I didn't realize they had so many points option. Usually when I go to a retail store, I just pick up a 1600 ms points and/or $20 psn card. I mostly see 1600 and 4000 point cards and $20 and $50 psn cards on shelves. Is there even a $15 psn card available or are you stuck with $10, $20, and $50 psn cards when you buy some at the stores?
