Microsoft response to NPD results

July was a solid month for Xbox 360. We dominated the E3 landscape, took home 11 Game Critics Awards and closed out a profitable year with $2.1 billion in growth in our Entertainment & Devices Division (Microsoft internal data).

How often does the year end in video game land? I'm pretty sure Microsoft's year has come to a close like 3 times so far in 2008.

They aren't talking to you, they are talking to their investors. I love how people who can't even decide what games to buy sometimes will sit in here and be financial advisors.

I'm sure MS would love to beat Sony month after month, but as long as they are making money, it's win. It's another justification to stay in the game. This goes for all 3 companies. If they don't have anything good to say to their stockholders, they are dead in the water.

It's so amazing how these companies (well, I guess actually just Microsoft and Sony) damage control and skillyfully dodge the facts in front of them sometime.

Yeah, thats true. But damage control is a large part of running a profitable business. The ability to make everything seem dandy to a consumer, when in actual reality it isn't great.

Doesn't make a difference to the experience I have with my 360, though.

Even though that is so completely obvious, I never really thought of it like that. I always thought of it as these companies trying to justify themself to the press and stuff rather than to their actual stock holders.

Actually, pretty much every tech site recomends the PS3 as being one of the best BR players.

I guess if you want to cling to small hardware advantages, go ahead, but it looks like more and more just buy the ps3 for blu ray if they aren't buying games. hopesfall2own

You'd have a very good point if the 360 install base in America wasn't 5+ million ahead of the PS3. PS3 owners are buying games last year there most likely wouldn't have been any PS3 game in the top ten.

It's still one of the best, but new BD players have been released recently that either top it, or are as good and cheaper.

Oh, and since the 20GB started retail at $399, that's a $100 drop in total. Same amount the Ps3 had.

60GB were discontinued. You're comparing two version to fit your argument. The 80GB, as of right now is still $499, which is $100 less than the 60GB when it was released.

This reminds me of when they dropped the price of the 60GB to $500 back in 07 and it still didn't outsell the 360. (but it was closer than this)munu9

yeah i was thinking of that too but the ps3 was still to high plus it had no games at all. plus it was just a clearence sales and it went right back to 600. i think this price drop was different. 299 for a 360 plus loads of games still couldn't sell more plus you could add ff13 announcemnet as well
