Here we go, so close to release but still:http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msuk/en_GB/pdp/productID.257929400

£399 32gb without a touch cover (I think, I don't know if there is an error but the £399 version states there is a cover but the picture shows without, there seems to be no difference between this and the £479 version).

to put it into price perspective, iPad 16gb at £399. 32 GB ipad with no other additions (cover or periperals) is £479.

What does system wars make of this. will the Windows 8 Pro version be £800 or more do you think?

I'm looking at the 64gb version, for $720 CDN. It was between the iPad of the new Surface, and I think Surface will just be better for what I want to do (play movies/TV shows on the go). Especially since it's only $100 more than the iPad 3rd gen 32gb model.

If it helps at all, you get the nice cover/keyboard. and the full blown Microsoft Office 213 suite (which is really nice based on the preview) There are some decent intensives here, of course the major problem facing Microsoft is the app store.

I'm gonna say oh hell yes. I want the pro so it may be a while before I get one. I want to get a Sony tablet as well so I can support both my companies, even though I hate google and their android os.

That would be a ripoff even if it were in dollars.

Windows 8 is gonna suck hard for everybody.

Microsoft is trying to become Apple, except without the good taste or brains.

They already shoved a doofy interface on XBL, now they're shoving the same doofy interface on a fourth-rate laptop and trying to sell it for $1000

Those are definitely incentives. It's not gonna be anything intensive, as I have a PC and a laptop, so it's solely for the multimedia use... Though having Office doesn't hurt. It would be great in school.

Also factor in, storage on tablets is very expensive. But this has a MicroSDXC reader built in, so you can essentially get anywhere between 50-150% extra storage for alot cheaper than buying the next model up.

I was expecting between £600-800.... im kinda worried, I don't think I would go higher than that. But bare in mind, what you get for this price featureset wise is more than what you get from an iPAD for example. Full office suite, the keyboard/cover, microsd slot, hdmi, headset jack ect. 2Gb RAM ect. The only aspect that isnt on par with the iPAD is the display, but I would easily argue that 720p is more than enough for a tablet. the pro will have 1080p anyway.

Kk. You realize, this isn't for the same uses as a PC, right? It's far more mobile than a laptop.

Surface actually looks like it will be the ultimate bridge between tablets, which are consumer devices, and laptops, which are productivity devices.

I always thought Windows RT was a terrible idea, but assumed they did it to reach very low sub-$300 price points. But this.. they're selling mid-range tablet at premium price. Surface RT is dead on arrival. It's not even just bad compared to iPad price-wise, but heck..for 100$ more you can get stuff like Lenovo Lynx

and it has:

lenovo-ideatab-lynx-press.jpg

Bigger screen
much better keyboard with actual battery inside
x86 processor, so you're not limited to just metro apps.

That looks just like any other clunky laptop but that is detachable. It looks pretty damn tedious to use, as do most of the other companies hybrids that are coming out.

Exactly how? Once detached it will work as any other Windows tablet, including Surface. And while docked it will work far better than Surface RT ever will, because Surface RT looks like a decent tablet, but a terrible laptop replacement. It's like netbook, only worse and netbooks died for a reason.

I think it's the closest we're gonna get, for now. Can't you also switch to a "classic" desktop on the Surface?

It can't run any PC games, not just the intensive ones :]

It has petite low res screen

it has absolutely absymal keyboard.

Lynx is better than Surface RT in every way.

Surface RT will flop, badly. People who want just a tablet instead of full blown computer will just get iPad.

On this one? You can, but the only software that will run in desktop mode is office and internet explorer.

As a tablet? I don't think it will see the support the iPad does, because of sales. However, the app store is filled with garbage and isn't very good for games. As a tablet for gamers? This could prove to be MS for ray into the portable market. Controller support is a given, and Xbox games will likely land on the console.

That is what annoyes me about my iPad. I got the 32Gb model, yes I love it and its awesome and all but the surface really looks nice. The Metro UI looks super awesome on a tablet (not a PC Microsoft!) and its got expandable memory. If MS handles this right, the iPad is in for some serious competion.

in Canada it's $519-$719. I think it's overpriced what will the Surface Pro cost if RT 64GB with touch type cover is $719 and the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar?

Seems pricey and this isn't even the x86 model just the Tegra3. It's hard to say if it holds more value then an Ipad considering Apple has their massive digital content and app store.

This is what I don't get. The one differentiator for Surface over the iPad is it's a serious, professional and serious tablet you can easily do real work on (ie Word/Excel/Powerpoint/OneNote) instead of fighting with some bullsh*t on-screen keyboard and iWork or Google Docs/Drive. Their entire marketing campaign is built on "clicking in" to the touch/type covers. So naturally, they release their volume SKU at the same pricepoint as the volume iPad, sans cover, and then charge a $120 premium for it. Huh?

Yeah, I was expecting maybe $50 bucks for the keyboard cover or maybe some intro freebie bundles to entice business users but this...

Maybe Microsoft is taking a bath on the hardware price and trying to make up for it with the cover. Whatever the case, it just doesn't make sense to me.

About in line with my expectations.

But geez...$120 for a keyboard cover? :?

This is what I don't get. The one differentiator for Surface over the iPad is it's a serious, professional and serious tablet you can easily do real work on (ie Word/Excel/Powerpoint/OneNote) instead of fighting with some bullsh*t on-screen keyboard and iWork or Google Docs/Drive. Their entire marketing campaign is built on "clicking in" to the touch/type covers. So naturally, they release their volume SKU at the same pricepoint as the volume iPad, sans cover, and then charge a $120 premium for it. Huh?

There is a cover included in the price, the 120 dollar ones are additional. You alsoget mirosoft office 2013 which will be how much?

No it isn't. :? The 32GB version sans cover is $500 while the one with the cover included is $600. A savings of $20 but still, that's an extra $100 for a keyboard...

The inclusion of MS Office 2013 is nice but the RT version is scaled back from what I've heard.
