Admittedly, the hardware looks great. But the software remains an enigma: How is the Windows Store going to look on October 26th?

The price is a touch steep, but it aligns well with the iPad. The lack of a GPS chip bothers me a little, though.

When are we looking at the x86 based models?

MBirdy88

December/September. they stated it will be available 3 months after RT launch.

Torn. Though, I may just use my Christmas gift for this, in order to save me spending my own money.

I had predicted $599 for the Surface RT, and $199 for the cover.

So close.....

I just pre-ordered the 32GB Surface RT with touch type cover and it came to $693 including taxes and free UPS shipping. It says it will ship early to be here on launch day (26th)

This means I don't have to go line up at the Microsoft store before midnight on the 25th to get my hands on one!

Having a full size USB 2.0 and a MicroSD card slot i didn't feel it worth the extra $100+taxes for the 64GB model. A USB 3.0 32GB USB stick is only $20

I would pick one up if the keyboard cover weren't ridiculously expensive. Even by Apple standards $120 for a freakin' cover is ridiculous.

It's $100 if you order the tablet with it, it's only $120 as a stand alone item, you can also order it for $500 without the touch type cover.

Price is aittle much but overall pretty impressed, few years might invest in something like this for my portable gaming needs.

The Surface RT will be a great scondary monitor for neXtBOX games. So many uses from selecting plays in Madden, sorting your inventory and character in RPG's, running playlists for your custom in game soundtracks, a rearview mirror and car telemetry for Forza 5, scoreboard and game stats for Halo 5 , whatever the Tom Clancy and Splinter Cell games can come up with.......

PC gaming isn't about 30fps medium detail I can do that on my Xbox 360. You said it costs more than a GAMING PC and clearly it doesn't.

I can blast textures on maximum and it looks much much better than PS3/360. You don't need to get a $1000 computer in order for it to be a gaming PC. If I can get a $500 laptop that can do all that, surely a $750 desktop would be able to do much much more.

Even medium graphical settings in PC games dominates consoles. That makes the entry cost for PC gaming much lower and worthy.

Gaming on a laptop is the wrong way to do it. Of course, laptops aren't considered as gaming machines.

PCs are what it's all about.

Filthy consolites aren't getting the fact that the entry cost for PC gaming isn't much if you want to go for medium settings, and it still looks much better than console versions.

Not embarassing myself one bit. I bought a laptop for multiple uses, and it happens to run games very well with great graphics. And yes, a $800-$900 can run DX 11 in high specs at 1080p. Consider that cards like 560 Ti are very cheap, so it makes sense. And if I game on my PC, then yes it is my gaming PC. I don't see what's embarassing about that ;).

True, But who is looking at this as mainly a game system? I want one because its more portable/comfortable than a laptop, will fill the tablet void of my life. and be powerful enough to run Photoshop, Microsoft Visual Studio ect. I dunno, I don't think anyway here would rationally be looking at this for a mobile core gaming machine, though it will be able to play a massive back catalog. I hate laptops for gaming no matter how good they are... really feels crap.

1 year later, PC will overtake the next Xbox. There's no point in buying a console unless you want one for exclusives.

And is that laptop a touchscreen, fanless design that's smaller than a pad of paper yet still gets 8+ hours of battery life? Because those are kind of important details.

The best specs they can get is only comparable to Macbook Air. Its successor with better hardwares is gonna make consoles and tower PCs irrelevant.

Maybe you should practice reading comprehension because you're quite illiterate, but I expect that from someone who can't tell a sim racer from an arcade one. I didn't buy mine for gaming, I said "FOR THOSE WONDERING ABOUT IT'S GAMING CAPABILITIES"

I'm sorry I confused you, it's entirely my fault I must have been posting in English again.

You keep telling others to stop embarrassing themselves and you just bought an overpriced tablet for "gaming"?? Dude at least practice what you preach "gamer" lol.

Maybe you should prartice reading comprehension because you're quite illiterate, but I expect that from someone who can't tell a sim racer from an arcade one. I didn't buy mine for gaming, I said "FOR THOSE WONDERING ABOUT IT'S GAMING CAPABILITIES"

I'm sorry I confused you, it's entirely my fault I must have been posting in English again.

So you bought an overpriced tablet for for the fvck of it when there are thousands which do the same for much less?? lol even worse.

Keep in mind that the RT version does not run the full Windows 8, but Windows Mobile.

For those wondering about its gaming capabilities. Note too that he says "running the full PC implementation of the Unreal engine so ports to Windows RT are very easy.

Only if you want mobile UE3 games. Even Surface Pro won;t be able to run any advanced modern game, let alone RT

Obviously you don't listen very well. He clearly said it's running the FULL implementation of the UE3 engine @ 35-40fps and even mentions games like Mass Effect 3

You can always single the morons on every forum out by how often they type "lol" , where do you fit in? It's not my fault you're a dirty poor ps3 clown and can't afford nice tech. As far as anyone intelligent is concerned the parts list fits the cost, but you have trouble just reading English don't tackle that one without help.

With the smart consumer who doesn't buy overpriced junk when they don't need it. Sadly you're on the opposite side of the fence.

As long as it's the side you're not on it's surely the right one.

laptops are not gaming PC's please stop embarrassing yourself. My PC cost $1700 for the parts . $750 isn't going to run DX11 Ultra spec in 1080p or >

percuvius2

Not embarassing myself one bit. I bought a laptop for multiple uses, and it happens to run games very well with great graphics. And yes, a $800-$900 can run DX 11 in high specs at 1080p. Consider that cards like 560 Ti are very cheap, so it makes sense. And if I game on my PC, then yes it is my gaming PC. I don't see what's embarassing about that ;).

You said Surface costs more than a gaming PC and it doesn't. Your laptop is not a gaming PC. End of story.

So basically you ignored everything. Sorry mate, the story isn't over, if a PC can be used to play every game out there, then yes it is a gaming PC. If you use a PC for gaming, it is a gaming PC. And you can easily sport a i5/GTX 560Ti build for $700-$800. I don't know where you buy your PC parts, but you might want to start getting better deals :).

I bought a laptop for $500 that's able to play everything 30fps medium-high settings.

Slow_Show

And is that laptop a touchscreen, fanless design that's smaller than a pad of paper yet still gets 8+ hours of battery life? Because those are kind of important details.

So that makes it valued at over $800?:|.

Son, if a laptop can do everything a tablet can (and more) for a cheaper price, then there is a problem.
