Nah, that garbage is a gimmick. I'll stick with my PC with Windows 7. Not a piece of garbage with Windows 8.

charizard1605

Kk. You realize, this isn't for the same uses as a PC, right? It's far more mobile than a laptop.

Surface actually looks like it will be the ultimate bridge between tablets, which are consumer devices, and laptops, which are productivity devices.

That was my thoughts as well. I think the price is incredibly fair considering it's close to the iPad.

I want pricing on the Surface with Win 8 Pro. I'm expecting $800-$1000.

Only thing I'm not sure on is the price for the keyboard cover...though it is quite nice.

So that makes it valued at over $800?:|.

Son, if a laptop can do everything a tablet can (and more) for a cheaper price, then there is a problem.

XVision84

Where are you getting $800 from? It's a $500 tablet, the time-honoured tradition of gouging on extra storage notwithstanding.

And yes? The specialially designed low-power parts and specialized design work required to build a tablet drastically increase the cost of production. It's the same reason why that laptop that can "doeverything a tablet can (and more) for a cheaper price" costs more than a comparatively spec'd desktop. Pretty basic stuff.

And really? Calling someone "son" over the internet? Really?

So basically you ignored everything. Sorry mate, the story isn't over, if a PC can be used to play every game out there, then yes it is a gaming PC. If you use a PC for gaming, it is a gaming PC. And you can easily sport a i5/GTX 560Ti build for $700-$800. I don't know where you buy your PC parts, but you might want to start getting better deals :).

XVision84

laptops aren't gaming PC's . End of story, roll credits. I buy my PC parts from NCIX, eBay and egghead. The deals I got were awesome, go enjoy your laptop *snicker*

What was that? Oh, I'm sorry, I was too busy playing Arkham City maxed out to hear you :o.

BTW, nobody knows that they're getting ripped off when it happens, because then people would be getting ripped off :].

a batman game is supposed to impress me? I don't even like batman so you FAIL. Explain to me how I got ripped off? I build my own PC's and the specs I built cost over $2,000 pre assembled, but I paid $1700. Where did get ripped off? Give me an example of where I got ripped off? I can MAX games you can't like The Witcher 2, BF3, Sleeping Dogs etc

laptops aren't gaming PC's .

percuvius2

There are laptops that are gaming PCs.

Laptop = PC

gaming laptop = gaming PC

And nowadays even mid-level laptops can play pretty much everything you throw at them. Some of the stuff won't run on max, but it will run and for non-hardcore pcgamers that's enough. Desktop is always better of course, but there's plenty of fun to be had from playing on laptop too.

Heck..I actually prefer playing older titles on laptops. They look a a lot better in 12-14 inch screen than they do on big monitor

No, that's welfare. Laptops are NOT gaming PC's they can't fit the necessary cooling. I'll stick to my 106" screen too.

All that means is most of them will heat up, but they play the games just fine. Most have HDMI output, so you cant plug them into any size screen you want. I've had a gaming laptop for 3 years now. Many of the newer laptops are better designed for cooling. That plus increased HW specs means they dont get near as warm.

Im interested in the Windows 8 Pro version. I refuse to spend $500+ on an iPad or any other tablet that really is just a giant smartphone. I have an iPhone. I have very little need to duplicate the same functionality on an iPad for that price.

The Windows 8 pro version of Surface promises to be totally different. From all I can tell, its supposed to be a legit PC (including gaming), in tablet form running a legit windows desktop. Plus its supposed to have better peripheral connectivity. If I can do legit development, play Steam games, run iTunes, etc. on it, I would be more than willing to shell out $800+ for that kind of portability.

Looks like a waste of money, just like the iPad. When we are talking +$300 then you are better off getting a simple laptop with a full open operating system. It will do every single thing that the tablet does, be nearly as portable, will be cheaper, and already has a near infinite amount of "apps" (programs) to run.

most of us think iPad is crap, yet it still managed to sell buckets. you think its cheating because you want more from you $800, but the mass do not know or do not care how much they can get from that price.

Sad that USB 3.0 is incompatible, and still rather disappointing that it's not a higher resolution. Also would have been more competitive if it was 399 w/out the keyboard and 499 with the keyboard.

$1700 is rip off for the PC in your sig. It could be done for $500 less if not more, unless you're including stuff like the projector?

The viability of the Surface (and Windows RT) in general for gaming depends on what sort of software developers will release onto the Windows Store. I've seen Fruit Ninja and Cut the Rope already on there, but we need some "real" games if you know what I mean. But, with mouse and keyboard usage being very common with Windows RT tablets, I can see developers porting over some games over to RT...

But again, if you already have a laptop with a mouse, and access to Steam, then what's the point?
