Maybe once they add the rumored cable channels it will be come an entertainment center for me. Right now it's a gaming console I can watch videos and listen to music on. I'm still at a loss of why they didn't add a blu-ray drive to the new 360s model.

WilliamRLBaker
Blue-Ray is Sony's technology

thats not exactly it. I was just wondering how he would expect a company to completely cut out the majority of their consumer base by releaseing a system update with disc technology the older one doesn't have...

Ya, and then they'll claim that MS is greedy and ripping them off :P

[QUOTE="LastRambo341"][QUOTE="soapandbubbles"]I hate this, we don't need another bad PR stunt....look at the image the PS3 has been given. When will consoles just be about the simplicity of gaming? Games and games...***** the rest. soapandbubbles

Sony and MS are multimedia companies, you're gonna expect their products to be fused up.

Obviously, i don't mind the little additions...but why do they have to say it isn't a gaming console? it's just plain STUPID...it's primarily THAT and what it always should be. I see a horrid future where consoles turn into PC's..and because of it...cost will rise and what made consoles so unique will be forgotten (the simplicity of pop in and play gaming) now it's all installs, updates...devs can just half arse every game and finish it off later with a price..what a f'en joke.

Why does it matter to you? Just play the games since that is what matters to you and I, right?

Pretentious marketing b******s... Sony call the PS3 an entertainment centre too (which to be fair it has been since day one having bluray out of the box). I buy consoles for games though, everything else is just more expense for crap I don't even want (I miss the GC, the last true console of its kind).

idk but for some reason i now have the urge to listen to the song "its's all downhill from here" by new found glory.

LP4EVA2005

its only called "all downhill from here" and its original name was catalyst :P, but geffen told em to change it as that was more marketable (so glad NFG left Geffen and went to Epitaph).

Also met Ian Grushkah at Slam Dunk aswell (the man is my hero as a bassist on stage and in the flesh one of the funniest peoplei have ever met). Also seen NFG 3 times in the past 2 years :o

What about me MS? I have definitely lost faith in them recently... ALL he needs to say is "and of course we support those who just want to game". MS, biggest company in the world (one of), and they fail to equally focus on two demographics.

and cost? a lot don't care for the extra but still NEED to pay for it to enjoy the console for the games! Soon consoles will be so bloated with useless things. again, what annoys me is how games on consoles are becoming like PC when console gaming should be about the simplicity of pop in and play gaming. Why does it matter to you?

Sony doesn't own Blu-Ray. They are part of the Blu-Ray Disc Association with several other companies.

I guess... He's not wrong. The 360 does offer a lot, but I would personally never use it solely as my entertainment center, considering it doesn't offer me Blu-Ray.

Quote from IGN: "Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer has stated that the Xbox 360 isn't a gaming console – and that's what helps differentiate it from its competition..."

Well, there is a competition, and it is Sony PS3... They always target the same demographics.

WilliamRLBaker

Oh really then you mean they didn't release a move attachment that is 90% party games? you mean they didn't at the start of this gen say it was a pc and would replace the pc?

Little Big Planet 2, Killzone 3, inFamous 2, MAG, Dead Space 2, Heavy Rain, and No More Heroes all are NOT "party" games, and have fully functional Move support. Move is for ALL gamers, even if you don't want to see it that way.

Sports Champion, The Fight, EyePet, Kung-Fu Riders, and The Shoot are the only "Party Games" I can think of that Sony has released for the casual market.

7 legit games with Move support

5 casual games with Move support.

Come on ... Those games all just support move, they're not move games. MS could patch Kinect support into Reach, and have you wave your hand to reload. It's still not a Kinect game.

Besides ... LBP2 has minimal Move support. The main game won't support it.

SO the next Xbox we can expect a trickel of good games along side a handful of fluffy pink pet games and snuggly tiger games? Oh how wonderful... Unless they call the next "My Little Xbox" then no girls will be interested.

I think that Steve Ballmer's assessment is accurate. While the Xbox 360 launched with most of its focus on the games, Microsoft has since updated the console with many features to capture a broader audience, such as Netflix, ESPN, and of course, Kinect.

However, Ballmer's terminology does not necessarily need to be taken in a negative light. Unlike the Wii, for example, the 360 still enjoys massive third party support for the traditional gamer in addition to this new family-friendly software. I was unsure of Microsoft's direction after their E3 presentation, but it seems like they have found a nice balance between catering to a non-gamer audience and the traditional gamer.

"I think about my own family," he said. "My wife used to say, 'No, no, that's the machine the boys use,' and now she says, 'Yeah, I want to go watch movies. Let's go play the dance game.'

Vinegar_Strokes

While I was a skeptic before, Kinect is actually really fun (and tiring : D). I was never very fond of dancing; but after playing Dance Central over the past few days, I might be having a change of heart. Hell, even my mother wanted to play.

Who ever thought that this could be so fun? =P

Not exactly. But yeah, Sony pushed things like Blu-ray movies and Home about as much if not more than its software lineup. Hence the "it only does everything" tagline.

I'm not comfortable with a corporation controlling the entire entertainment fields in my house. They didn't secure the pc. Yeah their OS is in everybodys computer but other than that they do not control anything. A pc user can install, work and visit everything without paying any fee to M$. That's what they want to do with these kind of devices. Don't really want to pay the Live for watching videos on youtube.

[QUOTE="vashkey"]Reminds me of Sony earlier this gen.ohthemanatee
exactly what I was thinking

however sony still has games comming for the ps3 the xbox does not ... the old and tired 2011 exclusives argument of the ps3 vs its gears of war game and its up and cumming kinnect games.

was a xbox gamer majority of my gaming life span however invested in ps3 around 5 months ago and havent looked back. the lack of dedication to support xbox with exclusives games for its core market that have supported it for years is a dissappointment. sony might be trying to be the entertainment centre but at least they support its core audience it also i would say wins the entertainment thing with the blu ray player which is now the only way i want to watch movies

I don't get why people are making this out to be bad. It is't a game console, it's a game console with other features that make it a family entertainment center (same for the PS3).

I'm sure MS (and Sony) have felt this way for quite a while, even before their motion control outings.

Bad timing. That's why.

Had MS said this at the height of 360 support, no one would have minded. Infact they'd be happy MS were trying to improve each aspect of the console.

However releasing such a statement at a time when MS is seemingly fully focused on a more casual audience, worrys Xbox owners. Afterall they didn't buy the GAMES CONSOLE, to then be told games would be taking a back seat to family fun, and movies,
