Never mind the low specs.
Imagine playing Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, or some other old school game on the train on a Surface with the digitizing pen.
Imagine the freaken possibilities. PC gaming at the palm of one's hand is now possible!

It is very low spec, i would rather get a tablet/laptop hybrid, with a much better CPU/GPU
My 14'' laptop can also be used in mostly every place and is almost as convinient as a tablet, but 1000x stronger in power and i can work on

For once, we are on the same page.I would be the first to jump in if it had enough ram/power to run 3D studio and program on, but this will hardly do any of those
A laptop that becomes tablet would be my first choice, if it can take the heat of course
Progress will make desktop and non-hybrid laptops obsolete. i7 Quadcore and the latest GPU in a tablet form factor with over 8 hr battery life. Till then, we're stuck with this stop-gap.
hey guess what? before they can slim it down to tablet form factor is the bulky Destop form factor. Then the Laptop Form factor. The more powerful tech will always be bigger. Hence why super comuters are still gigantic.Progress will make desktop and non-hybrid laptops obsolete. i7 Quadcore and the latest GPU in a tablet form factor with over 8 hr battery life. It can be quite fun if you get a game that utilizes the touch screen properly, and I'm not talking about Angry Birds either. I've played plenty of great touch screen games that were a lot of fun. RPGs are particularly at home on touch screen devices. FPSs to a slightly lesser degree as well.Lol @ tablet gaming.

I'm beginning to see the value in Sony trying to keep the ps3 going for as long as it can before introducing a next gen console and keeping the flow of games coming to the ps3. psx_warriorNot trolling but how does your comment relate to the thread? Its probably obious but its friday and im running on fumes at the moment :P
I'll wait for Intel Haswell based tablet i.e. better GPU.Never mind the low specs.

You gotta understand, I don't spend 1000 dollars buying tablet to play PC games that I can play infinitely better on my, well, PC. I buy tablet for other reasons.funsohngYeah, I agree. It's not supposed to be a laptop... anything it shares with a laptop is just a bonus. If I had a surface, I'd use it for email, browsing, casual games , movies on the go and magazines/ebooks. Little else.
LOL!! No. Microsoft overpriced their tablet compared to the compeition and didn't even add any extra features. Microsoft's Surface to the Apple's IPad 4 is like the PSP Go to the PSP. Microsoft pretty much shot themselves in the foot. One of the guys who helped to launch the original XBox was on the project and they pulled him off of it because he was taking to long to get the Surface launched. So they brought some other guy on board to finish the job and this mess is the results. Now Microsoft has poor sales and no one really wants the Surface with the terrible Windows 8 on it. I can see people getting an IPad Mini, Kindle Fire HD or a Nexus tablet before wasting their money on a Surface. My wife loves her Kindle Fire HD and I'm pretty happy with the IPad 2.Never mind the low specs.

tablets and pc gaming lulz peanut butter and and oil sound like a yummy mix.everythingcasuaYou know that Peanut Butter does have oil in it right? Yes, it actually is a yummy mix. I think you used a bad analogy in this case. Tablet gaming is a nice distraction when you are out and on the go. There are a few decent games that work really well with the touch screen. It'll never replace PC or console gaming however.
Actually, I stand corrected when I said you wouldn't play any games on this thing. I was looking around and found some Youtube videos that feature gameplay on the Surface Pro's video solution, and despite the fact that you would have to turn the settings pretty much to their bare minimum, it looks like the Surface Pro and it's HD 4000 should be able to play all sorts of PC games. Far Cry 3, Crysis 2, the Witcher 2, Battlefield 3... all of them playable on the integrated graphics. It won't look as nice as your rig of course, but it's still a nice option to have. So yeah... bonus. donalbane
This is exactly what people arent paying attention to. Apparently they played Borderlands 2 on it during some side demos in Las Vegas during CES. I also heard it played Civilization V. Think about that for a second. You likely can run Steam on this thing and most if not all of its games. iTunes will run on it. Yes you will be able to run development environments on it too. Its not likely worth playing some of today's top games on, but I'm sure it will adequately play legacy titles and titles that arent as graphically demanding like BF3. Thats far better than what you can do on any other tablet.

I could get a touchscreen ultra book with a dedicated gpu for the same price that does everything it does though.[QUOTE="-ArchAngeL-777-"][QUOTE="donalbane"]Actually, I stand corrected when I said you wouldn't play any games on this thing. Having a dedicated gpu, and actually being able to use it on your lap kinda makes a difference. In fact, checking out ultrabooks for the same price shows many of them using very similar if not the same specifications as the Surface Pro. They usually are bigger than the Surface though. I think people are overestimating the alternatives.

Yeah, and discounting the form-factor. All accounts that the ergonomics, design and build quality of the Surface line is on par with if not superior to the iPad, which is really exciting for people who aren't into Apple products but want a high end tablet experience. In fact, checking out ultrabooks for the same price shows many of them using very similar if not the same specifications as the Surface Pro. I agree. All the hands on reports seem very positive too. For me, its finally a tablet that I consider actually useful. Overall they are pretty cool devices, but if Im going to shell out $500+ on a tablet, it had better do more than my smartphone.
I'm a Tablet PC enthusiast, but I sure as hell don't buy them for games. Not when most of them are crippled with Intel graphics, and the only decent dedicated graphics option is a Fujitsu Lifebook T901 with an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 4200M, which still isn't all that powerful. And it's optional, and it still costs over $1,000 in most cases. Also, there's another major issue that prevents old-school RPGs like Baldur's Gate, Fallout, etc. from working as well as you'd think with an active digitizer pen; they're made for relative mouse input, so an absolute input device like a digitizer pen results in the game cursor utterly spazzing out on you. Damn shame, since it would be pretty nice to play them that way. Long story short, tablet computers are work tools (at least the ones equipped with proper digitizer pens from Wacom or N-trig or some other vendor), not playthings. Leave the gaming to a PC with some decent graphics hardware under the hood, which is most likely a desktop unless you want to pay twice the price for half the performance because portability is that important to you.NamelessPlayer
I dont think you buy them for games, but the fact the Surface can adequately play PC games is a definite plus. I have a gaming laptop but its big (18" HP). its essentially a desktop replacement, and its battery is shot. I have to keep it plugged in all the time. Replacement batteries for it are next to worthless as they have a reputation for lasting maybe a year for your $120+.
Bottom line: I dont need a new gaming machine, but would like to have another portable option without buying another full up laptop. Surface will fill that portability void I am missing, plus be a better gaming option that traditional tablets if I so choose. Its essentially a laptop in tablet form which is perfect for my needs.
