Despite RE4s success and high scores all over internet it was the start of evil for RE series

. Despite all the praise , MASSIVE amount of veterans/oldschool RE gamers disliked it , RE5 even more and RE6 even more ...

Im not sayingthere wasnt room for oldschool formulas gameplay improvements but ... to make a survival/horror classic zombie game to an action/shooter classic alienatorWTF is that game was too much. And in the end...Backfired with RE5 and RE6 which they followed RE4s formula.

So true. Resident Evil games weren't even scary once you turned 11.tagyhag
Bah, REmake is pretty scary. The others aren't really anymore since slow zombies aren't really scary and the tech the old games were on. >.> Doesn't change the fact that they're pretty fun.

Resident Evil 4 is by far the best in the series because it had the perfect blend of horror and action. Resident Evil 5 and 6 sucked because they completely took out the horror and just made an action game.

This. The old RE games weren't scary at all. What was I supposed to be scared of? the voice acting?

REmake was the only game in the series that I'd consider "scary". Everything else was about as scary as goosebumps.

to me the old RE weren't better just because they were scary but because to me they felt more interesting and compelling to play. The going around doing a puzzle here and there, the back-tracking, limited resources, etc. You never knew was was going to happen next or how much time it was going to take you but with the newer ones after RE4 it was like: kill a bunch of things here, move forward kill a bunch of things there, move forward, kill a boss, watch some cut-scenes... It was a very predictable and dumbed down experience.

The excitement of the shooting wasn't there anymore because you were so used to shooting a lot like in a traditional shooter. The atmosphere was totally lost, the tension and stuff it was gone and they kept adding more and more extremely cheesy stuff like the super powers of Wesker, the mind control of Jill looking like a tacky sadist mistress and so on.

A perfect example of this is the first Dead Space because then when you play Dead Space 3 you realize that all the things you loved and that made it unique are not there anymore because it was replaced with some braindead action sequences for the dude-bros. Every time you hear a dev talking about widening their demographic you know that it is that time when you're forced to move on even though is not easy to abandon one of your favorite franchises. Heck, I'm still mourning DMC and FF.... :(

RE4 is nothing like RE5 or RE6, this delusional moron doesnt know a damn thing about his own franchise.  RE4 was actually horror and had times of terror.

Jakandsigz

No it wasn;t it was a hallway shooter with some random jump scares and a lot of monster in a lake.

They could have still done that after 4...instead they went for co-op shooter..hey 1 gun is not enough how about 2 guns - ai partner pew pew. :P RE5 is the wrong path...RE6 just basically went kaput. RE series was not scary after 1. :P

It's Nintendos fault yet again.Jack-Burton
how is it nintnedos fault that people already played the game on the ps1? ,

re did not sell well enough because more people had already bought it on ps1 and did not think it was worth 50 again to play the same game they played nearly a decade ago ,

it is the  developers fault if any , and so what , revelations sold well ,   and thats not action packed , ,

so wheres capcom making excuses for this time ,

re6 sucks plain and simple , and nothing capcom does or says is going to change it , ,    the only upcoming capcom game i care for is dead rising 3 ,

It just shows how clueless he is. Resident Evil was hugely popular and sold really well. As did RE 2, 3 and Code Versonica. Then, Capcom signed a deal to have the RE series exclusive to the very much 3rd place GC. Most of these were ports and they remade RE1. I have it, it was really good, but if Capcom thinks a bunch of remakes and ports were going to sell then they have their heads planted firmly up their behinds. Sure, they also made RE0 which got decent reviews but in my opinion is god awful and first signs the franchise had completely run out of ideas. They sold it as the game that explains it all. The game that explains the mystery of the zombies. Instead, like every RE game, it explained pretty much nothing and was just more of the same. The game sucked,

RE4 sold so well because (a) it was the first REAL RE game they put out and because it was the first to update the old, outdated, clunky control system. It sold well because it was FUN and it made people feel that, although it was a bit more actiony, they were still in the midst of zombie hell. It was the game that renewed people's faith in the RE franchise.

Then Capcom showed that RE4 was more of an accident because 5 was terrible and a big step backwards. And now we are being told the reason they came out with the massive bomb of RE6 - which literally had "normal" every day police officers pulling mexican wrestling moves on zombies - is because REmake didn't sell well but RE4 did? What a bunch of garbage. It's no wonder so many Japanese devs are now floundering. They clearly have no clue about their own industry anymore. They want to coast on making the exact same game over and over again and wonder why sales start to drop.

ZIMdoom
you do realize that re4 had the same old outdated clunky control system with better aiming and different view? There also wasn't too much difference in the gameplay between re4 and re5, what made re4 awesome was the fact that it felt like one world you were traveling through. It was also a solo experience all the way and a good one. Resident evil 5 felt too broken up with its missions and co-op focus. It didn't feel like you were progressing through some world to accomplish anything thing, but just dropped in to murder tons of zombies. I think if they make any more RE games, or even decide they want to reboot the series, a Metroid Prime kind of level structure where you can get lost in zombie ville looking for shit to open more shit to progress through even worse shit would be amazing. Hmm... maybe I should get a wii u

no games are really scary, you never really get that sense of urgency except for small moments when shit really isn't going your way. What RE1-3 did well was build tension and suspense, re4 did good at that but had a lot of action sequences, even if there was suspense there wasn't any real tension when you had a shotgun and tons of ammo. RE5/RE6 completely lost that, to such an extent the game basically lost its identity.

Dead Space 2 damn near made me jump out of my seat on several occasions. That game was truly terrifying...

really? that game had monsters like jumping out all over the place, I never felt like it had as good of pacing as the first, in fact i barely remember it. The first dead space was amazing, 2/3 however.. Game developers are really losing the concept of "pacing" for the last few years.

RE4 was an excellent game. Then they listened to all the whiners wanting to have a more action-oriented game and ruined it.

That isn't true. REmake sold around 1.35 million on GC while RE4 sold around 1.6. While surely GC was a bad console to sell your game it was mostly Capcoms fault with their weird decisions that started with making the third game in the series for the Dreamcast when RE was PS exclusive and RE2 was the second best seller they had at the time.

Yeah, the first was really good, too. The second one made me jump more, though. I haven't played the third one yet...

Considering RE remake is the third best RE game in the series, he's just talking out of his arse.

In fact I'd say RE remake is as good as RE4, although nothing beats RE2.
