Ok so I just downloaded the demo and played the game. The game has a nice look and the game play is fun.

But OMFG at the screen tearing! There was quite a bit and very distracting.

The jaggies I could deal with but in a game where the selling point/gimmick is the immersiveness of the first person view. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! I was considering buying the game but now I wont unless the devs fix the issues for the retail version.

Your thoughts?

I have no idea what these whole screen tearing or jaggy things are, but I swear some people let them bother them way too much.

Where did you see the jaggies and on what console did you play it on? I didn't see any jaggies on the 360 version.

screen tearing is where a line might come up during a game (horizontal line) and you will see it kind of mess up the screen a little it usually happens when there is a lot of action or fast movement on screen.

It's kinda hard to explain. Basically it's when you see weird horizontal lines going across the screen. Uncharted and Far Cry 2 have them, although rarely.

Edit: ^^^Yeah, those 2 guys explained it better than I did.

Im not gonna lie, but I got mad screen tearing too! Maybe it was cuz when i played the demo I was using my SDTV (My brother was watching a movie on my HDTV :x) but there was sum insane screen tearing.

Screen tearing is this effect some games get when it looks like half way down the screen, the visuals are "torn" like a piece of paper and then they no longer match up...there is a GT5 P pic that shows screen tearing perfectly. Ah here, I found it:

You see on the right hand side next to the car, thats screen tearing.

Exactly. I was playing on an SD tv as well and it was really bad. But shouldnt it be the other way round?? ie More screen tearing and jaggies the higher the resolution??

Thats the problem you see. Once you know what screen tearing is you cant miss it, how ever hard you try..lol. Its a terrible burden to bear.

Its like when some one points out at some thing in the sky and u just cant seem to notice it and when u finally do, doesnt matter how much u look away but thats all u see.. lol

I dunno about Mirror's Edge, but generally speaking I find it very surprising if people don't notice screen tearing, it's worse than jaggies imo and really hard to miss. Luckily it's pretty rare, and at least on PC if it appears, turning vsync on makes it dissappear.

In case anyone was wondering Screen tearing is the result of a low refresh rate. I noticed this aswell, it didn't bother me much, but it was definatly there. Apparently it can be fixed on PC games using something called vertical sync, where the refresh rate is synchronised with the FPS. I think it might have something to do with your TV aswell. You might be able to make it go away if you change the refresh rate. I don't really know, my knowledge just expired there .

Yeah I think that's right. When fps is higher than refresh rate, that's when it usually becomes a problem, vsync caps your fps to your refresh rate. Might explain why people with SDTVs are experiencing it, perhaps the game runs at a higher framerate on SDTV or (some)SDTVs have lower refresh rate.

Screen tearing is because of a lack of V-sync, from what i can make out, with V-sync enabled frame drops are alot more severe (any framerate drop will take you from say 30 to 20fps), but without v-sync the framerate can alternate in 1s (from 30fps to 29fps for a minor framerate drop).

If i'm wrong please feel free to correct me.

I agree that it was extremely annoying, especially since it's such a fun game. Have developers these days even heard of vertical syncing? Ugh.

I'm not sure, but I'm "pretty" sure that screen tearing is dependant on your monitor/TV refresh rate, which is why some people might not see it. Just for those who think people complaining about this are crazy.
