Someone needs to make Beer Pong Olympics with Kinect so all the college frats will play that instead of obsessing over CoD

I'm looking to the next installment of Call of duty in particular. There's a rumour that it will be set in the 19th centruy!! I was a little sceptical at first as I figured that would mean we'd get crappy weapons and locales, but fortunately,It's supposed to be a parallel universe where Jesus was born 200 years earlier.Yay, this means more developers will smell the money and we will have more cookie-cutter FPS without any hint of innovation !

It's the king of nothing other then setting market statistics. It's not the 'fps' of the generation, and a far cry from being one of the most noteable IPs in gaming; this is a game that's a recent phenomenon and struggling to make a mark outside of those sales metrics and IP jump of COD4. It's a popular trendsetter, and that's about it. What is 'fun' and 'addicting' is subject to anything; millions of people subject to Farmville Stockholm Syndrome would say the same thing, just like a gamer playing Quake World.:| No... its the king of FPSs, its the reason i play FPSs to begin with, its THE FPS of the gen and probably ever in history, it has done what no game was ever able to do, its addicting, fun and amazing to play online and as you see Billions love it also. i will keep buying the games at launch as long as they keep releasing them. dont ever call JRPGs crappy :x

[QUOTE="DeX2010"]Everybody who could get out of the house could see Avatar. Taking into account these sales are mostly from 360 and PS3, only gamers owning these consoles could buy MW3. MW3 destroyed Avatar, stop crying about it.I think Avatar is still the biggest entertainment product ever, given that movie tickets are usually around £10, while games are around £40, so Avatar had to sell more tickets to more people than MW3.
WickoSicko
Still more consumers had to purchase a ticket. I never complained about the figures, I just stated the facts, dumbass.
[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]The best part? Activision's all: Call of Duty is now amongst that rarified group of sustained franchises like "Star Wars", "Harry Potter", "Lord of the Rings" and the National Football League (NFL) that attract or engage tens of millions of people every year or every new release.[QUOTE="skrat_01"]The people buying it predominately don't actually care about games.skrat_01
The irony? Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings appeal to pretty much everyone with a pulse. Call of Duty only appeals to bros. Most people either don't like it because it's got about as much depth as a puddle, or don't give a sh*t. Yep, it's one of those "special franchises" all right.
Quite, those are IPs that have massive cultural sustainability, and worth. COD doesn't; it effects a much smaller percentage of the audience, and sells at a much higher cost; it's not a versatile transmedia IP. Star Wars is a cultural icon, Call of Duty carries the weight of being an army man shooting game for manchildren. But they're totally the same, Skrat, don't you see? :o[QUOTE="arbitor365"][QUOTE="DarkLink77"]

hey, we agree on something for once
Would you rather play Halo or CoD?it depends on which halo game and which COD game you are talking about.
i like COD4's campaign. I think MW2 had one of the best campaigns this gen. apart from that.... world at war wasnt very good and black ops' campaign seems like it was written and put together by an ADD kid hyped up on LSD. the only good thing about that game is the oldies soundtrack. MW3 just rips off all the other games and brings nothing new. all the best parts are in the trailers.
i actually like halo 3, even though I think its a step down from halo 2's campaign. I hated ODST with a passion. Halo reach's campaign was a boring waste of time. it didnt show us anything new, it doesnt expand the universe as a prequel, and it is surprisingly dull for a planetary invasion. and the book is better than the game.
so, I havent given a **** about any of the more recent entries in either of these franchises. but I had to choose, I would pick the COD games, because at least they have better gunplay.
I don't know what's more annoying, TC trying to constantly tell everyone CoD is the best game ever, or the insane QQing from all the people who hate it.
Like wow, a popular franchise sells a lot of games. Is that something to get excited about? Or like, flip out about?
Well, if you needed any more proof that console gamers are ruining the industry, there you go.

COD4 was the king of fps's in 2007. Now it's just dated trash.
Call of Duty 4 was pretty great. I wouldn't go so far as to call the series "dated trash", but its not like this is Madden. CoD has WAY more room for exploring different gameplay and possibilities online and in the co-op and campaign. CoD also has some serious competition, so if they want to keep their fans, they'll have to make some sweeping changes to the mechanics and engine.

You seem to like games that havn't changed in 5 years. JRPG's have been pretty much stuck in the ps2 gen and CoD hasn't changed since 2007..
You know, I am quite fond of Call of Duty. Ive played them ALL. However, when people go on spouting saying it is "the most influential" or "best" FPS out there, I just lol. Cod is a fun game, it is a game where people can sit and have fun together. It does well what games are supposed to be about. Thats all that really matters.
But, and this is a big But, Call of Duty's phenominal sales are a product of one thing. No one has ever considered that before Call of Duty, the best shooters were all exclusive to one platform. (Doom, Quake, Tribes II, Halo, and the ORIGINAL Call of Duty) Call of Duty is king now, not because it is the best, but because it was the best, and it is on EVERY platform. When Quake was in its prime (Quake III) I used to love talking about it with friends, but half of them didnt game on PC's. When Halo was king, most of them had no Xbox. With Cod this barrieer is nonexistant, and word of mouth is much stronger. It is this key difference that I think has led to Call of Duty's dominance, not the quality of the game. Its very similar to the Justin Beiber Fad.

I've seen you heap praise on MW3 and Black Ops relentlessly, and all your reasons amount to it being very popular. The skill curve in the game is flat, the perk system is unbalanced garbage, the game rewards lone-wolf tactics and running out of cover to leave your teammates dying while you go for killstreaks, the online community is populated of either little kids or bro gamers, and the PC version is a bastardized port. Yes, the game may be fun for short sessions, but it is not a deep, competitive FPS that you can invest time into. The game is a casual arcade shooter and craps all over the legacy of competitive FPS. Throw a CoD player into Counter-Strike and watch him get ripped apart; hell, I think we all remember how Modern Warfare-bred players who tried out BF3 were *****ing and moaning about how you'd get sniped when you got out of cover, or how you couldn't run around Rambo-style and not expect to get picked off immediately.People mad because other people enjoy a game that they were sure was gonna "die" this time around. Oh well. I'll continue having fun playing.

I pretty much agree with this. I dont buy every cod that get released but one game once in a while is fun. My favorites is the Modern warfare versions of CoD.

The fact that the game is FUN doesn't justify that its a good game???? Wow.. I guess I'm just not a good gamer then.. I'll start playing more games I think aren't fun to try to see where you are coming from...... sheesh. COD is great for many reason. 1. Pick up and play 2. Leveling.. always working towards a goal.. whether its the next level, weapon level, challenge, or pro perk 3. I have the OPTION to play by myself or with friends and still be affective ((THIS IS NOT A BAD THING!)) 4. Caters to many different playstyles. ex. group play, lone wolf, sniper, heavy, etc. It does. 5. Very smooth gameplay. 60 fps, and the graphics aren't bad. They aren't top notch.. but they are perfectly ok. No framerate dips. I'm no fanboy and love battlefield as well. You just want reasons why its a good game. There you go.

And this perfectly encapsulates how I feel.
I don't play CoD much anymore, didn't even buy MW3 (hoping for a little more change before I consider Black Ops 2), but a LOT of people enjoy it and it gets good scores, and the people who can't accept that and just whine and moan is hilarious. CoD articles in gaming sites wouldn't show up nearly as often if they didn't get hits from all the people wanting to downrate it and post a fiery and grammatically innaccurate rant on how much better Battlefield is.

Fun? What the hell is this "fun" thing? Fun is for kids, everyone knows that, hardcore gamers don't play games for this "fun", they play games that are 1337. That is why CoD sux, because its "fun" and fun things are for babies who don't know how to get a REAL killstreak in Unreal Tournament.
