I've been saying it for half a year now: PS3 games should have mod support. UT3 did it and there is no reason not to except greed.

Agreed. It worked well with UT3. Though I don't think mods are really the greatest things just because you can see polygonal breasts.

What mods actually released for the PS3 with UT3? All I remember are some characters being brought over. I don't remember any MODs though.

Plugging a controller into a PC costs thousands of dollars and is a big hassle. Also you can't connect a PC to an hdtv and controller at the same time.

Yeah, trying to find a good mod really is a time consuming process. I mean, you sometimes have to read people's opinions on it and looking at ratings on mod websites. What a pain in the ass! I hate having to read and comprehend.

Multiplayer mods can almost always add a tremendous amount of addition gameplay to a game and they can also fix broken gameplay elements.

I wouldn't say Mods are better than DLC...they each have their places. DLC is fine for consoles and some PC games were the developers haven't released mod tools or for something that adds more singleplayer content, like GTA4. That said, just because the devs made it doesn't mean its worth your time or money, ie. all DLC released for Oblivion.

I think it's funny to be honest. Really funny.

Yea Team Fortress Classic, Counter-Strike, and Day of Defeat were terrible for half-life. haha I agree that there are some really bad mods that can come out for a game, however, I've always been shocked by the amount of time and effort is put into these free mods and how much they extended my play time. I probably never would have paid for Team Fortress Classic if I had already bought Half-life, however that game ended up taking over my life back in the summer of 99.

Go figure, everyone is saying "PS3 mods should be the norm guys! UT3 did it uhuh!." UT3 got crapped on by gamers and reviewers. Don't expect anyone to line up to add mod support after that showing.

Yeah, there are definitely tons of terrible mods. But if you spend some time on modDb looking up certain mods, it's pretty easy to tell the good ones from the bad ones. Like Neotokyo from my sig. That came out recent;y and it's probably one of my favourite multiplayer experiences this gen.

While I recognize DLC has potential, I have yet to encounter a DLC I found worth the price. I guess that means I'm picky! :P

But it did'nt get crapped on because it had mod support. Who knows, maybe mod support boosted the scores. It just was'nt as good a previous installments. The only reason PS3/PC multiplats would'nt both have mod support is money, which I can understand as it is a very persuasive force.

The "because" is fine print and small potatos in this case. Any developer/investor looking at what's worth their time/money to invest onto putting into a game will see that as a piece of evidence that mod support isn't a spectacular feature for generating interest on consoles. Sure it'll happen some time, and become the norm in the future, but the fact that UT3 got crapped on and the feature didn't help its standing much at all will tell the people putting money into games that this isn't a feature that should be pushed yet. And for the record, UT3 was actually pretty damned good... But then again, so was Oblivion, so was Deus Ex 2, but you ask a gamer around here what those games were like, and they'll claim that they're somewhere between a pile of crap and Wal-Mart clothing for quality.

Mods are a lot better than DLC. DLC just adds stuff to the game(often pointless stuff) while there are a lot of mods that fixes flaws in games making the original game much better.

Wat? Nothing of what you just said made sense. "Plugging a controller into a PC costs thousands of dollars and is a big hassle" are you saying that it costs thousands to plug a controller into a PC? Not only that, but its a hassle? Weed much? Also, why cant you connect a controller and an HDTV at the same time? Most hdtvs have vga / hdmi input allowing either a simple vga cable or dvi to hdmi adapter. So nothing of what you said makes sense. Also controllers use USB, unless you are old school.

DLC is basically a mod, although DLC doesn't have the breadth of flexability that mods do on the PC for a number of different reasons. DLC is limited by the closed nature of the platform itself. When you have set hardware and developers take so much time optimizing for it, you run into a wall when you start trying to increase poly counts and add in more taxing elements to the game; like a lot of mods do. Many of the best mods increase the requirements for a game significantly. Looking at the classics like REBIRTH, they wouldn't be possible on consoles. Total conversions, graphics reduxs, and other conventional mod types aren't really all that feasable on consoles.

this is why i love PC games even tho i own two consoles. MODs are just amazing. They do stuff that the developers can't do. Stuff like character skins cannot be done through DLC due to license issues, while most of the total conversions like Home World 2 to Star Wars or Gundam is also impossible through DLC but still is amazing. And I love playing my GTA SA as Miku, so mods are awesome for me

If PS3 had mods I would probably play my PS3 more. Microsoft would never allow mods so I've given up hope. If they did, maybe Halo 3 would actually be playable since it would have good maps.

Mods are and will always be better than DLC because: 1- They are endless. 2- Free. 3- DLC are usually not worth it and priced highly. 4- Because I said so :P

I agree. So you would rather pay $10 for some DLC that usually isn't worth it (really only The Lost and Damned has been worth a purchase, and that was $20) instead of doing some research?

There are plenty of sites dedicated to letting people know about good mods and I'm sure people on GameSpot would be happy to help you find some mods. I don't even PC game but will be soon and I had people recommending me some good mods. That "I don't wanna search for a good mod" is such a lame excuse because you don't have to.

It's way better because of custom costumes? Do you know how insane and idiotic tat sounds?

Mods are cool and all, but come on...

mods are a lot more than custom costumes...

Mods can be a single costume, 1 new weapon, better AI or a whole new level or a whole new mission or even a whole new game like zombie panic

[QUOTE="lettuceman44"][QUOTE="lowe0"]Maybe I'm alone on this, but I'd rather pay for professionally developed content that had to go through a certification process than sift through tons of free mods (with whatever QA the mod team felt like setting up) looking for the good ones. I know from experience that software testing is not fun, and if you have the developer do it, they're so familiar with how they use it that they miss bugs that others would encounter. Then again, MS' certification didn't do much for The Pitt.

LOL. This is the typical console fanboy response. Which I call BS.

Do you have an actual counterargument, or do you imagine that just calling me a fanboy somehow makes my argument go away?
