[QUOTE="anshul89"]Plugging a controller into a PC costs thousands of dollars and is a big hassle. Also you can't connect a PC to an hdtv and controller at the same time.

xDimMaK

Yes you can.

You guys get that you're being ****ed with, right?

And Uncharted 2 looks better than Crysis, so PC gaming is dead.

99% of PC games are pirated anyway, only a matter of time before devs stop trying

What I think the DLC advocates forget it there is simply stuff what would never receive official support from these companies, there are mods for Oblivion and Fallout 3 that you would never see from Bethesda.

There was a co-op mod I played the other week that incorporate net humour into the game play. I can safely say with 100% certainty you will never, ever, see a official mod using shoop da whoop as a trap in the game level.

Meh. Oblivion looked fine right out of the box, and since I played it on a console, the devs had pretty much wrung everything they were going to get out of the hardware anyway (I didn't see a big difference with the "OMG port the shaders from PS3" patch). My point is, on PC, you go out and put together the game experience you want. On a console, I can sit back and the developer provides something to me, with absolutely zero effort on my part. A lot of PC gamers go "well, why the hell would you want that?" It's simply an entirely different mentality from console gaming. lowe0

This pathetic "take whatever you can get" kind of attitude is what encourages lower quality in all products. Unless consumers start demanding more from their games, all we'll have left are 6 hour singleplayer action games with mediocre multiplayer options.

Oh wait.

Its your job as a consumer to insist on quality products, unless you're so lazy and apathetic that you actually don't mind receiving the absolute bare minimum developers decide to produce at the absolute highest price we will tolerate.

[QUOTE="lowe0"]Maybe I'm alone on this, but I'd rather pay for professionally developed content that had to go through a certification process than sift through tons of free mods (with whatever QA the mod team felt like setting up) looking for the good ones. I know from experience that software testing is not fun, and if you have the developer do it, they're so familiar with how they use it that they miss bugs that others would encounter. Then again, MS' certification didn't do much for The Pitt.

I also hate waiting ages to download the relevant files everytime I try to play a game of CS:S or DoD. for some r eason every server insists on being different.

[QUOTE="Shafftehr"]Does anyone else find it ironic that PC fanboys here lined up to call Mass Effect for the 360 the "beta test" and laughed that anyone would play that "buggy version"... But are here espousing the virtues of frequently buggy mods that don't have a fraction of the quality testing of a professionally developed game? And keep in mind, I'm a *long* term PC gamer. Mods are great - but, there are a lot of hitches with them that (I had my entire computer wiped clean with an EQ mod, so I've been leery of them ever since) PC fanboys just won't mention or admit in system wars. Take them for what they are - a lot of crap with a few gems sitting on the pile. And even the gems tend to be lacking in a few areas (Day of Defeat for Source, for instance - great game, but *way* more buggy than HL or any Valve released game was, and also more buggy than the often laughed at Mass Effect - but PC fanboys lined up to praise it, despite the bugs, and willingly partook in that "beta test")

I've never encountered a single bug in Day of Defeat Source, so you're going to have to show me exactly what you're referring to. Moreover, take a look a Dystopia. I would take Dystopia over full commercial releases, and yet I did not pay a penny to download or play Dystopia. Dystopia does not have any resemblance to any other Source game, it is effectively a brand new game with brand new gameplay mechanics, player models, weapons, and maps....that I downloaded for free....that worked perfectly, that's also more beautiful than your average retail release. Plus, despite all the product testing games have, you still have ridiculous garbage falling through the cracks, see the kill streak rewards in Call of Duty 4 for a plain example. Kill streak rewards chew balance up and spit it out. If I were a modmaker and I wanted to eliminate killstreaks, and I managed to make that happen and release it for free on the internet, that would effectively enhance the broken balance inherent in COD4. Another thing: you talked about Oblivion, and I'll tell ya, bud, I couldn't stand that game until I downloaded a little (I say little for purposes of irony) mod called "Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul." It didn't make Oblivion bearable, but it did make it playable by ironing out some of the worst parts of that game....the level scaling and the leveling system. Unfortunately, you still have bandits wearing Mithril Armor, but isn't that the point? Where's the mod to fix that part of this awful game? Additionally I just want to make the point that Linux is entirely open source and yet is generally agreed by most publications to be more stable, more secure, and run more efficiently on hardware than its counterpart, Windows, which is manufactured by a global mega-corporation that's had a monopoly on the industry for decades. Don't underestimate people with neckbeards. I've got issues with games, and I make them heard. Rarely do developers pay attention, but the modmaking community basically says "I'm fed up with this," and starts tinkering with the game, and voila, you have a fix for X, Y, and Z, not bugs, but gameplay mechanics, graphics, whatever. Hell, bug fixes are routinely offered up for open-source software by the community. The idea is that it's a self-correcting system. Plus, you've got the same damn thing as Gamespot for mods....moddb has feedback plus a rating system and mod recommendations can be found all over the net....Game Informer has a mods section in their magazine. They pointed out one game in particular that they said had more content than most full game releases, called Stone Soup. Can you not fix bugs and release them as mods?
