I'll pick it up eventually, but there are too many great games out at the moment (still playing Pirate Yakuza and Avowed). Hopefully it plays well on the Steamdeck?

Gonna wait for performance patches. The RE Engine is not meant for open world games.

Unfortunate about the performance and bland environments (if true), but the game is gonna be awesome. And hopefully you can skip the "story" that Capcom wasted time and money on for some reason.

The only time I tried this series was on Wii U and put it down after a few moments. Maybe that one is on me.

Is M.H. THAT repetitive?

I played the beta a while ago and it didn't really seem like a big improvement on MH World with its Iceborn expansion, especially in the graphics department. it looked very blurry with really rough textures. gameplay seemed fine though.

seems like they made a poor choice of engine for wanting to do big open environments.

I'll probably still pick it up if my friend who is into MH wants to play it

i mean, I don't think you can judge a series where each game can be played for a huge number of hours after a "few moments."

Its definitely a weird, unique thing though so I can see people not liking it. there is some repetition, but also a ton of variety with the different monsters and weapons.

MH has always been a game that you get what you put into it. If you walk after beating Low Rank and get the credits that's still roughly 20 hours of a decent ARPG. Now if you want to get super high weapon/ armor/ stats from a G-Rank Black Dragon.. you'll have to grind for it. Much of my time isn't on grind but fun coop personally, playing with a group of friends is highly addictive.

Wii U game would have been Frontier G or MH3G; Frontier was an outsourced series that's a so-so MMO instead of the series usual drop-in drop-out experience from the main games, it's not that great. Main issue with generation 3 was water combat. That isn't too well received. So neither was a high-point for the series. WiiU ports also had massive performance issues.

Sounds like I will be getting it, to play with my friend who I went through ~150 hours of MH World + Iceborn with.

Both of us are kinda slow gamers and will mostly play in MP, so I suspect I'll be slowly playing this for the next couple years

selling like hotcakes... but with a 47% rating on steam, seemingly due to bad optimization.

it really feels like they shot themselves in the foot by using the RE Engine while trying to make the game bigger/more open. I played one of the betas on PC, and I got it running OK eventually but it did not look good at all. The textures looked terrible.

not sure why they didn't stick with the MH Worlds engine, that game looked great and ran fine if I recall. might have had a 60fps cap though which is never a good thing.

I'll probably still get it and can report back with how it runs for me

DF sh**ting on the PC version and does not recommend it if you have a 4070 or lower or if you have an 8GB or lower GPU, says it sometimes looks like a 360/PS3 game on high end GPUs.

Apparently Capcom is being greedy and put a paywall in the game for each subsequent time you want to change certain options of your character's look.

Not incorrect but woefully misleading.

Character Creator Vouchers have been in the last four titles. You can also unlock them for free by doing Event Quests and from gathering weekly rewards from simply playing the game.

Which again the past four titles did. I had a flood of them in Sunbreak & Iceborne without spending anything. & Wilds offers the same features.

You also have three character slots so you could just make a new one very easily.

Yes, I should upgrade CPU. :P

Playing on medium settings with some to high.
So weird how World looks and runs so much better than Wilds. So weird to not continue using and building upon their good engine instead of using a crappy one.

@girlusocrazy: Believe the first Capcom game to sell in-game items you can easily get yourself was with the now decade old Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition (which I have been replaying recently for the Platinum); in DMC4SE you can buy various orbs in bulk.

Not a fan either, yet I can't think of a major release Capcom game since then that hasn't sold easily obtained items day-one. Dragon's Dogma 2 got way too much shit for it honestly when all the Resident Evils & yes Devil May Cry 5 have the same micro-transaction model.

Am several hours into this now and having a great time with the game. Gameplay is fantastic. Really digging the focus mechanics, wounds, and targeting those wounds with a power attack. Using Great Sword right now and hitting a monster with a charge move just as they attack feels amazing when you knock them back. Love the game world with its weather shifting mechanics. Monsters are pretty cool and have been quite fun to fight so far.

The slinger hook is a great addition and really helps for harvesting things.

@Litchie: yeah it's extremely frustrating, specially because the game seems quite good as @Archangel3371 says.

I'm on a similar rig with a better CPU (12700k) but a slightly worse GPU (3070) and I'm getting very similar performance. Game looks very muddy with the settings I'm using but it is playable.

I'm not sure if I can think of another game that runs so poorly while looking this mediocre. Kind of amazing they didn't see the writing on the wall and switch to a different engine during development

@Archangel3371: Wilds kinda feels like World on steroids.

Have my issues with the game for sure, and likely going to bring them up for a review I'm going to throw together, but as someone playing on a console my biggest issue is the dire lack of overall content. However won't say more than that for those still playing through the ranks.

@with_teeth26 said:

Think you're overestimating prior MH games. World was not a graphics powerhouse visually, would later get a big texture pack & even then wouldn't call it one of the best looking games of 2018.

Not sure calling it mediocre is really fair either, the P.C. port is clearly poorly optimized, that's for sure. I've played tons of World, and Wilds does look better visually. A lot of the horsepower for Wilds however is in its layers upon layers of game systems rather than it presentation.

playing Wilds on like medium settings with DLSS on Performance, it does not look better than Worlds. on Ultra settings i'd believe it looks better.

I did forgot about the texture pack for Worlds though. you are right, I'm probably remembering that version and not the launch version.

@RSM-HQ: I’m still very early on in so not sure about it content wise but am a bit concerned with their update timeline. It seems very light with what they’ve shown so far.

Definitely does feel like World on steroids of which I’m fine with. I did prefer the layout of the base camp in World over this one in Wilds though.

Seems like they'll be adding a gathering hub in the April update. Nice, I miss that.

Must say that I really appreciate how the fur and hair looks. Flows so nicely in the air. Doshaguma looks awesome.

@with_teeth26: Just noticed that if I put on AMD FSR 3 in upscaling (instead of NVIDIA DLSS) and enable frame generation, I get a shitload of more fps. Haven't noticed the game looking worse (yet) but I get a lot better fps. Also put upscaling mode on "quality".

Try that. I get 60-100 fps now, pretty fucking neat.

Finished the story yesterday. My overall impression is the game is much better than Rise (garbage game) but bit short compared to both world and rise due to they are not wasting ur time with battling same enemy in HR.

Great game a 8.5/10 from me. So far I have 24 trophies and seems this time it will be a great trophy hunt.

@sakaixx: Wilds has far more map variety over World, the issue is they don't have enough monsters in the game currently to make it worth anything. However for getting 100% it's the easiest Platinum. Only got the Special Items & Crowns left myself, and in a friend group scouting for the crowns. Binoculars tell you what is and isn't a crown so that's way more helpful than prior titles, with less monsters to crown hunt for overall. Probably save the remaining Special Items for last.

@RSM-HQ: Tried the binoculars, but I don't see anything? Am I blind, or do the monsters have to be a crown to show that they are? Could only "target" them with the binoculars from what I understood, which is useless.

Also, Rise was an awesome game.

@Litchie: If the monster is a crown it would show it above the monsters name when using the binoculars. It'll stand out quite easily but here is a visual on Google to give you an idea_

If it doesn't show the crown icon? it's not a crown. Nice and simple.

Just equip it on your mount when you're near a monster. I've found this a really quick solution to finding crowns. Pin the local wandering monsters for auto travel, and quickly check them, takes roughly three minutes to do with each set.

I've found crowns to be far more common in Wilds as well.

Liked Rise a lot, it's the portable teams game, and they do things differently but for what it is found it very entertaining. Sunbreak was a great expansion.

I really enjoyed Rise + Sunbreak as well. Excellent game. Loved taking control of the monsters, using the to fight other monsters, and smashing them into walls or other environmental structures.
