https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_consoles As you can see here the number of playstations sold are 1/3 of what it was with the playstation 2, and active steam accounts are bigger than ever before at 150 million.

More and more people are going to PC which is a good thing.

That's good news. Time for Steam Machine to try again. This time stick with only 1 or 2 models. Instead of the crazy amount they released the first time.

I honestly do not know how some people can play games like Thief, The evil within, Gears of War UE on consoles...they run like absolute shit to the point where it is downright unplayable. Then you have games like Halo 5 which suppossedly runs at a 'smooth' 60fps but there's microstutter everywhere. Quantum break should be called quantum flop or quantum blur... I can understand those who have a PS4 cause unlike the xbone their exclusives are actually playable and of high quality. PC FTW...

Because most gamers dont actually give a shit about 60 fps. Like, 95% of gamers aren't FPS elitists. So it doesnt bother most of us to play games at 30 or so fps.

PC is customisable to your own needs and has a humongous library that caters to all levels of PC hardware specs.

Most PC games have scalable graphical options so "demanding" games are playable on low end specs, as long as you have a semi-decent CPU.

When Sony/MS gives us consoles that have trouble handling crappy ass 30fps/900p, of course people are rage quitting consoles. At least they're upgrading their relics. Now imagine if Neo/Scorpio wasn't a thing and for the next ~4 years we'd be stuck with Xbone/PS4 lol fun times.

I'm doing this soon too will probably end up buying one of the consoles late during the generation for cheap just to play some of the exclusives.

Heck i think Sony will go MS way and have their own digital market on PC to sell their first party games on pc.

There's no point getting a xbone since they have no exclusives, the PS4 on the other hand has The Last of Us, Uncharted 4, Uncharted trilogy, Bloodborne, Horizon etc... All fucking amazing games. I prefer to have just the one system but I simply can't ignore the PS4 when they have qualities like the titles i've listed.

It's not elitist, it is 2016 we have 11TF GPUs if a game cannot run above 60fps 1080p it better have a damn good story because from a technical viewpoint it is already a failure. Games like Uncharted 4 has some of the best humour and fun characters, whilst it doesn't run at 60fps it is graphically beautiful and the smooth 30fps is playable - not ideal but bearable. The Last of Us Remastered was perfection... If Witcher 3 wasn't on PC, the 25fps average and 1 minute load times would still be acceptable because it is such a content rich game. What I'm trying to say is if a game cannot fulfil the technical standard, at least fulfil the artistic standard...

PC is flexible.

People like to use their old / expensive controllers, wheels or arcade sticks. You can't do that on consoles... trashy limitation.

I was able to play The Witcher 3 on its launch day on my very old gaming laptop using 560M. Ran at 1280x1064 on medium settings around 20-25FPS. It was amazing to me that my old gaming laptop was able to play it way below minimum requirements. Demanding games don't mean only mid-high end PCs can play them. It is why graphics settings exist. The true beauty of PC gaming.

Every year Neckbeards say that everyone is switching to PC and every year it doesn't happen. And how many PS2 systems were sold after 2.5 years? Not even close to 150 million.

It is indeed a good time to be a PC gamer. Steam with 150 million active gamers is more than all console combinded, and the only way sony and microsoft can make any form of revenue is by adding a multiplayer paywall. Sony has lost 2/3 of their customers since the playstation 2 and steam is only increasing. I can't imagine what they will do next gen when even less people will buy a console. Proably increase the price of multiplayer and price of game. Come to the PC with benefits like:

- Freedom to upgrade when you want and easier to upgrade.

- Higher frame rates

- Better graphics

- Cheaper games

- Modding

- Can connect any controller in the universe

- Is much cheaper in the long run

- Don't have to pay for multiplayer

- Variety of graphical settings

- Gaming services such as GOG, Steam etc

- Higher quality VOIP services like Skype, TeamSpeaker, Curse, Mumble

- Thousands of possible things you can do on a computer

- More exclusives than any of the consoles combined

- Infinite backwards compatibility

- Healthy independent developer scene

- A lot more games

- Multiple monitors

You can play your PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube or Wii games in 4K! With some great hacks (60fps, widescreen).

I was playing Sonic Colors in 4K at 60fps (30fps on the Wii). Beat that, you console fanboys!

More and more people will play pc as they grow up. Most people engage in gaming as a kid, then when they grow up have a job, or career, they can afford the pc experience. You can tell just by reading threads here (I've been on these forums for...2 decades? Almost?) Anyways...there's always the "how to convince my parents to get me this console game" threads, and then the first time pc gamers who grew up, got some money, and enjoy our hobby enough to invest in a proper pc.

As of now, I feel that I'm the opposite in this where I'm playing more on consoles than PC. I have all my systems hooked up to my TV in my living room and I play all my PC games on my couch with the Steam Controller.

I play most of my competitive shooters on my Xbox One S, and most of my RPG's on my PC.

Every year for the past 30 or so years people said PC gaming will kill consol for good. Never happened and probably never will no matter how many gamers there is on Steam.

Playing a game at 60 fps in 1080 won't turn a Turd into a great game

Um, even if you don't like the vast number of exclusive games from every conceivable genre. PC gets the better version of the majority of multi-platform games and so called "console exclusives" and I'm not just referring to resolution and frame rates.

Why didn't you just plug in any controller you wanted to use, if you don't like mouse and keyboard? You wouldn't last very long in an online FPS but you always have the option.

All refutes are quashed by my anecdotal reality whereby I spent $2k to build a second gaming rig this past week, all the while shelving both my Wii U and X1. So yes, I agree.

It's also highly recommended, particularly in light of MS' move to incorporate Xbox into Windows. You can continually upgrade a rig to last you 5-10 years with superior performance to your console plebeian kin.

What's the total number of consoles sold from this gen (PS4, Xbox One and Wii U combined)?

Of course we know from system wars and all the folk saying you don't need and Xbox One any more, that all the PlayStation fans have high end PC's to play all the Xbox/Windows 10 games on. Those guys rushing out to buy and build PC's must be affecting the numbers of Steam users.

@GarGx1: I have a laptop but it can't run games like the new ac for example but thankfully it can run civilization, escape form Tarkov, cuphead, sea of thieves and ori and the blind forest which are the only other platform games i like.

How do I plug a PlayStation controller on PC?(only controller I like)

Also batman arkham knight runs better on consoles unlike the PC version so I don't know what your taking about on performance.

The only advantage I see on PC is mods and free online but ps4 has better exclusives and controller so that's why I got it.

While I'm not a fan of the DS4 controller, it feels odd to me (completely subjective don't shoot me for it) and things like the Xbox 360/one controllers work natively you can use it on PC, just follow the instructions in this link.

Batman AK was so bad even WB pulled it from sale for several months and continued to offer refunds for 3 further months after it was re-released in a working state, it had issues on console at launch as well. Do you really want me to list multi-plat games that run better on PC? It would make for a very long post. By the way Batman AK now runs better on PC than it does on PS4 (I played it with higher settings at 1440p and 60+ fps), although PS4 may still get a few more raindrops on Batman's cloak.

Here's@Cloud_imperium's exclusive game list from the PC forum. Is there honestly only two games on here that look good to you?

Look, I don't really care if you like to game on PC or not and you only want to play the small handful of PS4 exclusives that come out each year, that's entirely your prerogative and I'm not here to evangelise and convert you back into the fold. However, coming up with lame excuses that are easily discounted only makes you look like you're trolling for bites.

It's a cycle that will continue. Better PC gaming and new tech brings in more people to the PC.

PS4K / Neo and Xbox Scorpio will bring more people to consoles.

PCs continue to change and get even better.

Then PS5 and next generation Xbox will bring in another wave of console people.

PCs will be even more advanced, PC gaming goes to another level.

Etc, Etc, Etc, Etc.

@GarGx1: I don't like the Xbox controller but respect your opinion.

Ak has Better graphics but I would rather play with the d4 then have better graphics which it already has.

Tyranny, divinity, pillars of eternity,,prey for the gods,Xcom 2 and shadow warrior 2 look interesting but prey for The gods, shadow warrior 2 and Xcom 2 are also for ps4 so they don't count and ps4 has more games that I am interested in and I will list them if you want.

I'm not trolling I really like PC and weirdly I like smaller titles like museum for simulation technology, planet coaster, paint the the town red etc more than aaa titles.I don't hate PC and ps4 has 101 exclusives so don't say it like ps4 only has 20 exclusives or something.

In my opinion it's no surprise that gamers are leaning towards PC as opposed to the generation of consoles. For one, the PS4 and Xbox One are pretty weak. Especially compared to gaming PCs.

Plus there are just so many Pros to PC gaming compared to say the PS4. And the latest blow to PS4 console gaming is the fact that PS Plus is getting a price increase while PC gaming online is still FREE!!!

Source: PC versus PS4 comparison

I own all the consoles and a gaming laptop. Eventually I want to get a new gaming PC. But it will be interesting to see if things will change once Neo and Scorpio are out. Will PC gaming still look like an attractive option after that?

Yet both consoles are selling well ahead of their predecessors at the same point in the generation... but ok then.

At that time I haven't yet bought the gaming laptop I'm currently using, an Alienware 15 inch 970M. And if you want to know why I'm using a gaming laptop, I live in a very cramped room in Tokyo with absolutely no space for a desktop (I have too many books, clothes, appliances, etc. as it is in a 13sq m room that includes a bathtub, toilet and an utterly tiny kitchen) and I leave Japan 2-3 times a year (wouldn't want to be unable to play games for 1 month if I had desktop here in Japan). Besides, my school requires me to bring laptop. Having a gaming laptop is a win-win situation for me.

It's all good, stick to what you like and enjoy it.

I just get a little annoyed sometimes when people come out with I don't like the games on X because [insert inane reason]. All systems, PC and consoles, have a wealth of games that cover multiple genres, some of them are good and some are garbage. There are plenty of games on PC that don't appeal to me and I certainly don't play every game that comes out on it. Then there are some console games that do appeal to me (I own a PS4, admittedly it doesn't get a lot of use but I do own one) Horizon being one of them.

By the way Quantum Break is another good example of a game being broken on release for PC, it's fixed now but it ran and looked worse than Batman AK did, for me anyway.

@GhostHawk196:

I never had problems with Gears of War Ultimate Edition or any games on Xbox One. ?

They don't "run like shit to the point where they're unplayable." Hell I don't think I've ever played any console game that felt too shitty and unplayable! Exaggerate much?

@GarGx1: you seem to be one of the better hermits around these parts.
