most of you still supporting nintendo argue that they have not changed the kind of games they have released. i can tell you how they have changed, their current games lack any challenge whatsoever. nowadays it's enough to just slap the mario or zelda name on something and now they're even going to throw in the option to allow the game to play itself for you. nintendo, you lost a long time customer in me this gen. you will never get money from me again.

True, they didn't change that much, but gamers did and certain things became to be expected like online, hd and mature titles.

But it would had been a suicide for Ninty get into a tech race with Sony and MS, so they took they only way out short of quitting, making it even more casual to the point they weren't even targeting gamers but just ordinary people.

I don't mind, it was out choise when people bought Playstations and Xbox'es over N64 and Gamecube, and it's better than having every company put out a replica of each other's systems.

the only thing that bothers me with nintendo is their online set up. Having friend codes are fine but with ssmb when you had to add a friend and then they had to add you was dumb. Lack of voice chat also bothers me

I hope this casual thing Nintendo is going through is just a phase...The way they are making money, I'm starting to doubt they will ever put the Hardcore on the top of their list again. They probably realized there just isn't as much money if you go with the Hardcore!.

BillGates_Money

HUH???!?!? what first party hardcore/violent games have nintendo made??!?!? its the developers and fans not the companies. Sega took a chance with madworld and it sold decent so did no more heros.

I guess it depends on you definiton of Hardcore.Your definiton of hardcore is a raing of M. To me, something like Zelda, or Metroid is Hardcore.

Ive had every nintendo system since the gameboy color. all of them were worth it i guess, but ps3 just kills the wii this gen.

^ Same here (except I started with the NES). The PS3 destroys the Wii.

in terms of what how does the ps3 destroy wii? not disagreeing just asking

Obviously looking at it from a hardcore standpoint, the PS3 just has so much more appeal. I love Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Smash Bros., and many other first party Nintendo games, but I also love plenty of games that can only be found on the PS3 because the Wii can't handle them. And the PS3 has many more AA and AAA games on it then the Wii.

Imo that's due to nintendo's arrogance due to the NES/Snes.. same as sony from the PS1/PS2, the 64 lacked the games and they let sony take everything, again for the GC. No one turned their backs on them, they just didn't deliver, so now they have gone to the *extended audience*.

Espada12

ahh but your talking about loyalty here..surely it should work both ways (though the idea of being loyal to a company is as silly as a company being loyalt to me...but anywho). shouldnt the so called hardcore have stuck to nintendo through think and thin? they didnt...so why should nintendo sick to the hardcore?

Well the hardcore were loyal until they realised nintendo stopped trying, what do you think is gonna happen? You go to the next best thing. The reality of the situation right now is nintendo doesn't really care about core games and vice versa, so we can leave it at that.

they stopped trying? twice they tried to get so called hardcore gamers back with better hardware and better tech. hell with the GC they managed to make a console that could give the xbox a run for its money and it cost alot less to both produce and buy. the console had the fastest loading and it had quite alot od support at launch. the reason the support dried up was because the hardcore didnt buy nintendo.....despite the fact they they bet sony at their own hardware game...twice. what more could they have done? the hardcore were not loyal...they jumped ship. now imho they did the right thing (i jumped ship...i didnt even look at the N64. nintendo were being rediculous. i only got a GC at a reduced price also)....but the bottom line is the hardcore jumped ship first. as for now...i wouldnt say they dont care. there making good games (SW just dismisses them as kiddy trash). they just dont have the big 3rd parties putting their big teams in wii projects.....so there pretty much carrying the wii all by their onesies (sega are trying to help mind...and EA are surprisingly good). nintendo only stopped trying, as you say, this gen....and look at where that has gotten them.

Your point? Brand loyalty is not something I understand. When Nintendo made that choice to keep cartridges and all the 3rd Parties jumped on board with the PS1 I followed suit. I followed my love of games I owe Nintendo nothing. Its their job to cator to me not the other way around. Sega was also around long before Sony's PS1 and I didn't blindly follow to the Saturn. They messed up and that's that.

Nintendo turned their back in the sense that they made their new console incompatible with platformers (Mario), shooters (Metroid), and fighting games (Super Smash Bros. (and yes I'm aware that 'Brawl uses GameCube controllers)).

Thats why I own both a 360 and a Wii, so that when nintendo comes out with their staple franchises like zelda mario fire emblem and starfox etc , and great third party exclusives like no more heroes and muramasa the demon blade I can be their to support them.Until then i pass the time the great line up my 360 offers.

People jumped ship because most all of the third party developers did when the PS1 came out. Blame Nintendo for driving them away and thus driving away their "core" base. People didn't just leave Nintendo for no reason. That's what happens with competition. Someone else comes along that does it better. Saying I was raised on Nintendo is true to an extent but that's like saying if I grew up watching Barney(I didn't I'm too old :P) that I should still love barney 20 years later its ludicrous. Some people actually enjoy moving on to more mature content. That's what it boils down to really Nintendo's old philosophy of maintaining the same cuddly illusion of death and murder. Don't delude yourself Mario is no better than Halo. Just because the Goomba's don't shed blood doesn't mean that Mario isn't still murdering them. Its not like Mario is a creation game, its a game about death and destruction for a cause, its just spruced up with colors and silliness so that you don't realise that its the same theme as many other successful and more mature oriented games. There is the rub, why would I play Mario when I can play Halo?

I'll use your examples here. The Wiimote is nothing like the peripherals you mention. It's standard, it's what the devs have to use. What I've noticed this gen is that gamers are not the market Nintendo is after. That in itself is a big enough change.

ha. I laugh at all of those who think Nintendo has turned their back on "hardcore" gamers. You have to get younger "casual" gamers into games before you can start feeding them the "hardcore" stuff. That's why Nintendo opens up to a larger market. They actually care about the future of the gaming industry and actually want to get the next generation of gamers going. And I laugh at all the "hardcores" who can't see that.

I'll even post this:

[QUOTE="Willy105"]It's interesting when you see a gamer grown via Nintendo and one via otherwise. The one from Nintendo is capable of withstanding "kiddy" games as if they were nothing and looking at those violent M-rated games as kiddy affairs. Otherwise, the other gamer can't stand those "kiddy"games because they grew up with those violent M-rated games. I feel sorry for that other gamer. It's like they weren't grown with the essential needs. They miss out on too much.

I feel sorry for both of those people. They are both missing a sizeable chunk of good games by dismissing them out of hand.

Now its too kiddie, casual and they turned their back on their hard core fans...When did they do this??? Take a look in the mirror either you grew up or you turned your back against nintendo not the other way around!

BillGates_Money

Most people turned their back on Nintendo during the N64 and Gamecube days, sales started slipping so Nintendo turned to another audience to keep themselves alive. It paid off in spades and now people are all up in arms because they aren't being catered to by a company they had paid little to no attention to. What is even funnier is that Nintendo has done a great job getting it's core franchises out the gate and are working hard to get the second set of them out there for the "core" audience.

Nintendo is screwed if they do push to please the "core" gamer because their console won't have the same version of multiplatform games that the PS3 and 360 have, plus they'll always take flak for not having a graphical powerhouse. If Nintendo goes the route of releasing another console that does have the graphical abilities of the 360 and PS3, they'll still get flak because people will have to spend more money on a console that is basically a Wii with better graphics. If they don't go for the "core" gamer people will whine and complain that Nintendo doesn't pay attention to them. So at this point it is almost like why bother with the "core" gamer? When a "core" game does come out that isn't made by Nintendo it doesn't sell well and is always trashed for some reason despite it being a good game. If people truly supported the Wii and enjoyed games for just being fun instead of nitpicking the thing to death simply because its not Gears of War or Killzone 2 I'm sure Nintendo and many other companies would be more willing to put in the time and effort to making some great games that we all know can be done on the Wii.

Nintendo is simply being a business and watching out for their best interests and doing what must be done to keep them open for business. If Nintendo had turned their back on the "core" gamer we wouldn't have seen Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Metroid Prime 3. Also we certainly wouldn't be seeing Metroid: The Other M, Zelda Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Pikmin 3, Metroid Prime Triology, and anything else major Nintendo is working on that hasn't been announced yet. If you want more games for the Wii along these lines, actually buy them when they come out and show your support, otherwise don't act all surprised when companies don't put as much time and effort into these.

The first console I owned was an N64, but to be honest, I feel like I've grown up with Playstation, rather than Nintendo. Playstation just had a much bigger impact on me overall than nintendo, though I have always felt that Nintendo systems were worth owning which is why I bought a gamecube. You might say I grew up with both Playstation and Nintendo.

But I feel no loyalty to Nintendo. I had planned to buy a "revolution," but on closer examination of the library and the lack of upcoming titles I decided against it and I am very happy with my decision. When Nintendo decides to build a console that isn't oriented around some gimmick or another I'll buy it. If it has a decent library, that is.

Edit: The fact that Nintendo hasn't changed is part of the problem.

My first system was the NES but I would rather say I was raised playing video games. I had the NES, Sega Genesis, Turbo Graphix 16, GameBoy, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Dreamcast, Xbox and so on and I probably forgot some in the list.

RARE was my favorite dev back in the N64 days. I had so much fun with Kirby, Mario, Duck Hunt, and other games I dont remember the name of back in the 2-D days. My friend has a Playstation and he would brag about Crash. I'd bring up Zelda and he'd shut up.

I never knew how many people on this board never owned a Nintendo. No wonder they don't like their games. They don't understand the appeal.

I feel sorry for anyone that could miss out on a whole brand of games.

Nintendo's approach to the hardcore has changed somewhat, but as much as some here suggest. I always Segas consoles the place for edgier content back in the day. When the PS1 came along, it received a lot of press for bringing Mature gaming to the masses, and I think that's true. Nintendo has for the most part stayed the course with their family based appeal. Sony and MS are targeting a market that Nintendo never went for.
