I don't see the resemblense America Online was a ISP,it was a service provider no different that Verizon now or AT&T.

Paying to play games online to this day is a total scam.. and they're getting greedier and greedier. Meanwhile PC gaming, totally free. I dunno what kind of clown show MS is running here, first they announce theres not going to be any exclusives for years and then they increase the price of xbox live to rip off levels. Yes I did,but the Xbox division at the time was being run by a slug with a simple brain. I think Xbox is now going in the right direction, I think the majority of gamers agree Phil Spencer is on the track Xbox Game Studios will be pretty successful.

Street Fighter II on SNES cost my parents 70 Irish pounds (around 90 euros) back in the early 90s. A quick look at the inflation calculator: "A basket of goods and services that cost €90 in Dec 1992 would have cost €146.86 in Jun 2020." Heh. I've never bought a game as expensive as that!
Games and services SHOULD cost more over time. The alternative is shit "live service" games where you pay for season passes and pay to win crap. You either pay more up front for a better game/service, or pay less and get gross mobile microtransaction BS.

Didn't Sony Cows speak out against sony when they charged for online though? I doubt they were like this is gonna be great or some crap I just can't see cow doing that they prolly spoke out against sony there.
I think it's pretty clear that changes to Xbox Live Gold are on the way..
The best case scenario is that the Gold paywall for online multiplayer is coming down.. Game Pass is the new subscription service they want to drive gamers towards so streamlining the messaging with only one subscription service is a good idea..
This either means:
1) multiplayer will be free and they'll just hope people will choose to subscribe to Game Pass due to the clear value proposition.. Which would be a megaton mic-drop moment and definitely back Sony into a corner with PS+ pricing..
Or 2 (and most likely): they will find a way to roll Xbox Live into regular Game Pass, making Game Pass the new multiplayer paywall.. They've already done this with Game Pass Ultimate since it includes Game Pass for console, Game Pass for PC, Xbox Live Gold, and soon XCloud.. They'll likely roll Xbox Live Gold into Game Pass for console as well, effectively raising the price for multiplayer but also providing a value that's leagues beyond what "Games with Gold" was providing due over 100+ games in Game Pass along with day one releases of 1st party content.. I see Games with Gold likely going away and those resources just being used to bolster Game Pass..
I'm hoping it's scenario #1 but scenario #2 makes the most business sense.. I already have Game Pass Ultimate so in essence, I already have Xbox Live Gold as a part of that subscription.. I can easily see them wanting to find a way to incorporate that for regular Game Pass as well.. The messaging will need to be crystal clear and the pricing will need to be as flexible as possible if they want to limit the backlash
Maybe they'll announce a better bundle alongside the july event otherwise I think a reason would be that they can't keep allowing cheap ways to play their big exclusives:

Bro I own Xbox, Xbox 360, and call of duty xb1 im deep in the xbox eco system. I agree I don't like xbox one at all and its floundering compared to 360 in support an users an I agree with em.
I just don't think this is right time to raise prices and force people into services they don't want I may get Xbox Live Gold again someday so that's why im so concerned I hate gamepass its a terrible service I buy my games that I want to play same with movies I buy my movies if I like em an watch em a lot. same with games I don't play some mix of movies and games that other people pick out for me.
