MS kills Xbox Live Gold yearly subscription; Live Gold now costs $100 a year

Even if you weren't, why would something you no longer subscribe bother you so much. We all know you aren't going to pay for any kind of MS service if it's related to the Xbox.

I saw someone claiming MS is doing away with XBLG all together. Whether this means putting everything under Game Pass Ultimate, or as some haven't speculated, getting rid of the online pay wall all together, we'll see. Getting rid of the pay wall down the line might be a a good reason to get rid of the annual subscriptions if it will take place relatively soon, and keeping quarterly or monthly subscriptions around to get people to that point. Not to mention, it would be a positive development for console gaming.

Given that the price war between Sony and MS over their next systems might get competitive, it may turn into a war of attrition if MS scraps it's pay wall for online, as surely that will put pressure on Sony to do something similar at expense of their revenues from the service, plus with both possibly releasing their next gen consoles at a loss, MS might be hoping to move in a direction Sony might not be in a position to keep pace with.

But if MS really is getting rid of the XBL Gold pay wall, I would be very curious what happens to the Games with Gold titles people haven't accumulated, will they become permanent owned titles or will they require Game Pass to play?

I guess the real question is:

Why would you pay for XLG when you could get Game Pass Ultimate?

Presumably your are buying Live to play Xbox games online. Why not get the thing that also includes the games?

Plus it will have XCloud included with it soon so you can also play your games on the go. Isn't that why everyone pays for overpriced games on the Switch.

If you buy 1 game a year at $60 it already covers the cost of the extra $5/mo.

I can understand it if they made online free but if it's to push people to their whole gamepass program and include Gold for a little more I'd call bullshit. You can't be a company that says they keep using batteries in controllers because "we want gamers to have a choice" and then almost double the price of online and say your choice is pay more for the same, or pay more than that for a a bigger bundle.

wonder its because next gen games are 70 so they have to raise gamepass price but then again that's like raising all the games from the past that's already on there. so it looks better by merging gold and gamepass. so i guess if you want to watch netflix you have to pay 100 a and forcing you to buy gamepass to watch net flix. because you have to buy gold in order to watch netflix unless they changed that.

Ordinary Gamepass yearly is 120$, not ultimate. Yearly Gamepass Ultimate doesn't exists. 3 month membership is 45$, which is 180 yearly.

I'd be pissed if Sony tried to charge $100 a year for PS Plus. I've never even spent $60... always got it around black Friday for $40. I'm really surprised lems aren't more upset about this. It's even more reason to go PC instead of Xbox this next gen.
