MS launching $99 360 with subscription

Microsoft is planning to launch a $99 Xbox console package with a monthly subscription as early as next week, according to our sources. The software giant will offer the 4GB console with a Kinect sensor at its range of Microsoft Stores in the US, subsidized with a monthly cost of $15. We're told that the two-year subscription will provide access to the Xbox Live Gold service and possibly some additional streaming content from cable providers or sports package providers. Customers who sign-up for the deal will also be covered under a two-year warranty.

There will be an early termination fee for those wishing to break the contract ahead of its two-year duration, and we understand that Microsoft will position the package as a competitor to Apple TV, Roku, and PlayStation 3. For those buying the bundle now and getting the cheapest two-year Xbox Live Gold option, that's about $299.00 + $120 = $420 vs. $459 over a duration of two years. With E3 2012 on the horizon, and Microsoft working on a "Woodstock" music service ? it's clear that the company wants to ensure as many people as possible have an Xbox in their living rooms.

Quite ironic considering a 20+ page thread from yesterday. A cheaper console but you must have a 2 year subscription.

what would be hilarious is if they released their next gen console with free online on silver acccounts and you're still locked into gold from this 2 year subscription.

Since you have to buy microsoft's overpriced hdd (or cheaper one if you know how to hack it or you know someone who can do it for you). Doesnt that cost more in the long run than now buying 360, kinect and 2 years worth of gold live for 30-50 euro per year (depends where you buy).

This is microsoft we are talking about so I think this is scam. But I guess its good for people who cant spend alot money straight away... :/

Can't see too many people biting on this deal. Now if they gave it free with a 2 year commitment at $15 a month maybe. Sort of late in the 360s lifespan for a 2 year commitment though.

Personally I think they would be smarter to just drop the price of the 4GB down to $99 and sell the crap out of them. Usually this late in the gen the consoles cost $99.

They could have made it more appealing to the uneducated by just selling the console for $60-$70 on a 2-3 year plan.

You could just buy the $199 Xbox, and get two years of XBLG for roughly $70-$80.

Smart move by MS. People Are generally dumb and will first and foremost see the $100 price tag and consider it cheap.

Well, its only a rumor right now, but if its true then its far from a good deal when I could get a non arcade unit and two years of XBL at around the same price. Considering the weird math here, it kind of furthers the notion that its just a rumor.
