From the last announcment of FFXIII being multiplatform and I was feeling there is something wrong going through the industry.

I prefer seeing FFXIII a 360 exclusive than being multiplatform, look how GTA4 went after going multiplatform, Im not saying GTA is not a great game, however compared to the content and sales of the past installments, it is inferior so far, it is really painful to see the classics going multiplatform, Resident Evil, Silent Hill..etc, companies now are going mainly after the money and they are preferring quantity over quality.

Two better options for games to be going multiple-consoles:

1- being timed exclusive and I don't mean like 6 months or something, I mean like how RE4 went multiplatform and how MGS3 and GTA went multiplatform or how Mass Effect, GeOW and Bioshock being treated for other systems, these multiplatform releases benifits the gamer because it is not being timed to release in the same day for all systems, Mass Effect from what I've heard is being even a better experience than the 360 version and from updates from 2K it looks like that Bioshock on PS3 is going to be also a better experience.

2- Stick to the exclusive environment if your games are as big as FF, RE, GTA and other big games.

Just wanna ask a simple question, what are the benefits of big games going multiplaform if they are not going after the quality or quantity as seen with GTA4's case?

In the other hand look at GeOW ( I know it is timed exclusive but what a timed exclusive it was, this is how it is suppsoed to be multiplatform games ), Halo 3, MGS4 and other exclusive games, look how people are praising them because the developers were dedicated to the systems before thinking of anything else.

Most critics agree that GTA IV is the best of the series, and it was a given its sales would be much lower, since the installed base for the consoles its on is dwarfed by how many PS2s there were when GTA was in its sales frenzy.

I actually think multiplatform releases only hurt the fanboys. I see it as a good thing, more people can play some awesome games. I don't see a dropdown in quality because a game goes multiplatform. I still think Resident Evil 5 and FF XIII will both look and play great. If MGS 4 went multi I don't think it would damage the game at all it would just bring it to more people. I just think some people are stuck in the past. Don't take this personally either.

I don't think we are going to see 20M copies sold, GTA4 was amazing, nothing wrong with it, however, alot of people were disappointed with GTA4 offering compared to the past including hardcore GTA fans.

I don't feel multiplatform games hurt the gamers--they sometimes simply hurt the quality of the games themselves. Personally, I feel that multiplatform games really does make things much more difficult though--initially, if your as selective as I am, you have to figure out which version is best for you and that can become a pain in the ass. For example, I might prefer the controller on one console, but I know I'll probably get better frame rate on the other one due to that respective developer having more experince developing for it.

Timed exclusives usually turn out pretty good, so I don't mind those. But if it was up to me, I prefer exclusives due to quality purposes and my self-proclaim consumer satisfaction I get with the console(s) I decided to go with. I don't believe in being happy because every gamer gets to play what im playing--that's like everybody owning what I own. If everybody gets to experience what I buy, then it really loses it's appeal to some extent.

Multiplat great games are the best thing for everyone (despite fanboys, of course):

1. Gamers: An x-console owner don't have to purchase another to get the game he wants. If he can't pay for another one, he don't have to sell his own or miss the game. Gamer---> Happy.

2. Devs: They get enough refunds for all the effort and money a game cost. That's great because so, the dev can continue with the good work with new great (and multiplat) games. Again, the gamer is happy.

3. GTA IV is considered (overall, critics etc) the best in the series, son I don't get your point there.

Conclusion: everyone's happy with great multiplats. Fanboys, go cry somewhere else.

I agree with the tc, multiplatform games are not good for the industry, gamers, or the game companies. It takes the edge of off big name games for one thing. With the 360 and PS3 having 99% same library it takes the fun out of SW as well.

If GTA and FF where exclusives they would be talked about more but as is people forget about them a few weeks after release, lowering interest in general of big name games. Seems like every generation we loose more and more personality and character.

With any game, there will be people mad or who don't like it. You cannot and will not please everyone.

And I did the math before. Per system, GTA IV has sold more than other GTA games at the times of their releases in the same window.

FFXIII and RE5 will be great and all but we will never know if the outcome of the game would be the same if or better if it was for example exclusive for either PS3 or 360, the environment of the game on one system would be better.

As for MGS4, ofcourse, thats what I want to see, MGS4 going to the 360 after the PS3 release is way better than launching the game simultaneously with other systems, they would put the best efforts to make the best game, releasing it after a while to other systems definitely wouldn't hurt the quality of the game because the developers already delivered their best, more gamers would play it and more sales for the developers, but it is way better seeing games as timed exclusives.

The only people who should care about multiplatform games are PC gamers; because PC is such a different platform from consoles it unavoidably impacts the game in some way that is to the disadvantage of the PC gamer.

If you are on consoles any impact on game quality is the fault of the developers, if they do not dedicate the resources needed to maintain the quality of an exclusive game then the fault is on them; not the game being cross platform. But the only people who really suffers from a cross platform game is the console manufacturer, it shouldn't really matter to you as a gamer if a game is exclusive to your particular system.

I agree with you about SW. But imo GTA IV is the victim of the multiplat game. While the game was not bad, it was just more of the same, actually less than the others, with a new paint job. I expected so much more honestly.

In San Andreas we got gang territory wars which was terrific and refreshing, so I expected Rockstar to build on that, but they did a 180 and actually removed content probably for the graphics and detail of the city. I'll take content over dressing anyday.

More people are able to play the game but at what cost? It seems like most devs now focus on looks instead of deep gameplay and whore themselves out to multiple companies just to make a quick buck. That seems to be the trend they are in now and I hope it changes.

GTA IV would have been the same had it been exclusive. Rockstar has made it well known that they want to take GTA toward a more realistic (so to speak) world and tell a gripping narrative, IE be more cinematic.

Ya because it makes a ton of sense to have game exclusive and making it so less gamers can play. Seems the cows are just upset and throwing a temper tantrum because they want this gen to be like last gen. Well it is not and PS3 does not have a game libary like the PS2 did. Some of the huge exclusives that the PS2 had that made it what it was are not exclusive to the PS3. Cows need to learn to deal with it.

You might be right and who knows if being multi-plat had anything to do with that decision. I don't care what the critics say, they are possibly corrupt or simply fell for the hype, GTA IV is easily the worst game in the series not counting part one and two.

It was still a good game overall but lacked variety and depth imo.

Exactly, I was going to bring the San Andreas argument and I think it is a no brainer that when developers dedicate themselves for one system make the game delivery better than two systems or more, Im only talking about Big games and big names.

as far as i'm concerned it isn't good for the industry at all, since of course the consoles get ever more similar, and sell on brand power and marketing alone, instead of quality. this will end up ruining gaming and SW.

Hmm a sandbox against 2 shooters and 1 stealth. Why not compare games that are in the same genre because it depends on a person taste then. Why not Madden Vs MGS4 since you want to compare random genre of games. And please do not say GTA is a shooter game. This thread is more fail everytime.

Haze says otherwise

lolololololol

SpruceCaboose

heheheh I was talking about big games.

And don't mention Haze again

Lair & Blue Dragon both say hi. And before you say it, both were from pretty big names in the industry.

I don't know about Lair and who did this game but I know who did Blue Dragon, it is from unproven company, I know Sakaguchi is a genius but his staff maybe were not and the proof of that Lost Odyssey which I've enjoyed more than Blue Dragon, he might be a great mind but his team is weak to execute.

What Im trying to say Mistwalker is improving upon time because the team is new and the company is small compared to other devs.

You might be right and who knows if being multi-plat had anything to do with that decision. I don't care what the critics say, they are possibly corrupt or simply fell for the hype, GTA IV is easily the worst game in the series not counting part one and two.

It was still a good game overall but lacked variety and depth imo.

SpruceCaboose

Well I know I am not paid off, and to me GTA IV was by far the best GTA game IMO.

Ok lets compare it to exclusives or timed exclusives, which game was a better experience for you?

GTA4 or MGS4? GTA4 or GeOW? GTA4 or Halo 3?

Of those, GTA IV > all those listed. Its my second favorite game this generation behind BioShock, which was also a day/date multiplat.

I respect your opinion.

Bioshock? multiplat? was it with the PC day/date? I don't remember.

Agree......... I hate when big games become multiplat. Simply because multiplat and exclusive game is different. Multiplat game is easily forgettable. Look at Tomb Raider franchise. Rarely anyone talk about this today............ Heck even GTA4 hype is slowing down right now.........

But exclusive games is different. People will remember those games for years to come. Look at FF7. FF X, Halo 2, GT3, RE2 and many more. Peoples will always remember those games as classic............

Would you rather remember a game that you were never able to play or have the general mass forget about this game but you remember it because you got to play it and enjoy it?

I will answer your question but first I have to say this,

You find two different genres hard to compare? they are both gaming experiences and I can say which game was better. For instance, I could easily say an action movie is better than thriller movie because I liked said movie better inspite of the different genres.

MGS4 and GeOW were better experiences than GTA4.

and to answer your question, yes, GTA4 was better than SR 1, it was a better "EXPERIENCE" than SR 1 even if they were on the same category or not.

Yes it was. Both August 07.

So you are telling me that your best experiences this gen were from multiplatform games?

I think you hate exclusives then heheh.

I see this games would have been better if developed exclusively/timed exclusively.

Is that why we should have exclusives so it could be remembered by the masses? I say who cares. I still think this isn't about games but more about what system the games are on. My favorite game last gen was Resident Evil 4 and it ended up on four different systems. My second is KOTOR and it was on two. Exclusives just start fanboy wars on sites such as this. Although, that can be entertaining at times I feel we should move beyond that. The industry is bigger than that. Good games will stand the test of time no matter how many systems they are on. And if not who cares enjoy them anyways and for as long as YOU want to.

there is a reason why people say they enjoy RPGs most or sport games or shooters and so on. People will enjoy one style of gameing more then another but that is not to say they only enjoy one style.

there is a big difference between a linar shooter games and a free roaming game with shooter elements in it. Halo 3 and GTA4 both great games but very different.

That's your opinion, but, overall, GTAIV is considered better than both of them. Besides, if a game is better than other rarely have something to do with being a multiplat, but with the devs. Expert devs (like Rockstar, Square Enix etc) know how to do good games, independently if they are multiplats or not.

and to answer your question, yes, GTA4 was better than SR 1, it was a better "EXPERIENCE" than SR 1 even if they were on the same category or not.
