why's that?

is the disk capacity really that important?

why do games like Dragon Age Origins and Final Fantasy XIII look better on the Ps3?

Does bluray give the ps3 an advantage in terms of graphics when there's a lot of data to be put in one disk?

edit: so, someone stops pretending they don't get what I'm saying, just to make fun of my poor english.

compression. they wanted to fit Final Fantasy on as few discs as possible, so they may have lowered the resolution as well.

And Dragon Age is on one disc on Pc and it looks better than the consoles counterpart because of the uncompressed textures.

Some FFXIII you see out there showing the 360 version looking so bad compared to the ps3 are likely some altered pictures. The difference should be minimal.

I'm neither a cow nor a lem nor a hermit.

I'm just wondering why multiplats that require multiple discs on the 360 look better on the ps3. And I cited Dragon Age Origins and Final Fantasy XIII.

So my question is the following: is the size of a game a crucial factor of how good it'll look respectively on the 360 and ps3? and again, is it thanks to bluray that the aforementioned multiplats look better on the ps3?

GTAIV looked better on the 360 indeed. but if they did lower the resolution in Final Fantasy XII on the 360I can guess they weren't able to make the game fit on to 3 discs at a higher resolution. Somehow I don't believe there'll be huge differences between the 2 versions

Any game can look the same on the 360 as the PS3 if you have enough disks. :P Anyways, with the exception of Dragon Age: Origins and Bayonetta, the difference between the graphics and performance between the two consoles is minimum. In fact, many games look BETTER on the 360 than on the PS3.

bluray has nothing to do with how well a game will look. it just has more space than dvd9 and that's it. n64 used cartridges while the ps1 used cd which were much more capable, but the best looking games were on the n64.

The thing is they have to compress the textures rediculusly. That is why Dragon age looked worse on X360 and the same reason why caramack said the X360 version would probably have worse textures.

the problem is when they try so hard to make the game fit onto a relatively small space, which is not enough for the amount of data required. ps3 has compressed texture too. consoles are not powerful enough to take uncompressed texture like the Pc.

So confused.

Also, since when does FFXIII look better on PS3? No reputable source has done a comparison yet, and GS said that gameplay looks slightly better on 360, whilst FMV's look slightly better on PS3.

I'm not too sure about that. The only games I know that are better on the PS3 as "big sized games" is Oblivion and Dragon Age. Honestly, I think they are nearly identical.

Yeah, and IGN said otherwise, so we just have to wait until the game is actually out before making false claims.

what exactly does "slightly better" mean? Is it when you pause the game and you can see minute differences between two identical games that play pretty much identically. When the game is in full motion there is no way to see the difference. I own both hd consoles and i find it difficult to believe that these small differences actually affect game play or graphics(while in motion).

It's been proven fact that those pics of the 360 version being inferior are real. 360 version 576p (fact), lower res textures (fact), gimped PS3 version really bad (fact).

No games designed for the bluray with loads of extra content look better.

I've been seeing all this stuff about stuff getting cut in the case of lost planet 2 it seems they designed all the content for bluray so of course they're gonna cut something and nothing in ff13 has been shown to have been cut because of DVD.

*the fact the games content that was cut was cut before the 360 version was even announced*

What did they want to keep? the interntional racing mode in lost planet 2? it seems to be developers are no longer trying to practice smart game design and just throwing every single thing they can in.

Not really, There have been serveral head to head comparions that liked the Ps3 version better. Especially due to the fact it has alot less pop in and a better framerate.

Those are 360 games ported to PS3. I don't know about DA:O, but FFXIII has a separate engine for each system.

It usually comes down to compressed textures on DVD9 vs Blu-Ray...This is also why most PS3 games have better sound and support for 7.1 ibelieve. Sometimes its just because a dev knows what they are doing and programs the game for the PS3 1st then ports it over the 360 which "MOST" of the time it results in a "slightly" better game... I.E EA who makes all their games 1st on PS3 then ports over. You can see this in Deadspace, Burnout, Dante's Inferno. Before anyone rants about ghostbusters, those dev's where just POS. However if you dev on the 360 1st then port over to the PS3 things usually turn out sub par. I.E. Bayonetta...

I'm having trouble understanding what you're asking but if I'd have to guess I'd say the answer would have to be with the BluRay holding a lot more. There's never a reason to cram, duplicate, or separate anything which they can concentrate on other things like graphics. The flip side is the slow read speed which means a massive install to get around it.

This is BluRay vs DVD9 again. Most games does'nt need BluRay this gen, but when making a huge game world with a long story and high quality movies, it is necessary. I just wonder how much time the devs are using to plan what they can and can not have in a game, and how much they'll have to compress the audio, video, and textures?? These problems does not exist on the PS3 to the same extent.

Rockstar pushed the DVD9 format on the X360(6.8GB) with GTA4, I think that gave them some headaches in addition to the porting over to the PS3 of course. Rockstar have stated that they will have problems making the next GTA, since every GTA is bigger than the last one. They did'nt have these problems last gen. GTA3 was less than 1GB, Vice City was over 1 GB, and GTA SA was 3GB. A game like GTA SA this generation is impossible on the X360.

i thought they did that to maintain framerate while the PS3 version has a slower framerate and some v-sync issues

i mean both versions are have barely any graphical differences when taken into context

LOL the irony.

On topic: In terms of adding more textures or if possible better textures, or any other type of data, yes. The only problem so far has been that it isn't needed but anyways someday it will be nedeed and BD will probably be the sucesor of DVD netx gen for all consoles unless they go the Wii way.

The thing is, people put so much attention to this because of fanboy quarrels.

just think the Pc doesn't need Bluray disks and developers don't complain about it.

On the Ps3 you also need to compress textures. don't believe in wives' old tales.

I believe the Ps3 will just have better audio, cause it's the only thing that they won't need to compress, while on the 360 they need to, if they want to fit all the data into a smaller storage.
