So, in addition to the December sales data, the NPD group also share the top 10 selling games for the entire year of 2015.

Info:

The 10 best-selling games of the year

  2. Madden NFL 16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
  3. Fallout 4 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  4. Star Wars: Battlefront (Xbox One, PS4, PC)
  5. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Xbox One) 360, PS3, PC)
  6. NBA 2K16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
  7. Minecraft (360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4)
  8. FIFA 16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
  9. Mortal Kombat X (PS4, Xbox One)

Well...aint that an overall crappy list . What gives 'Murica? :P

Also, XB1 constinues to be the broshooterbox it always was, so they have that going for them. :D #DesSmearCampaign2016

What say you System Warriors?

Edit --

So, something that caught my eye only after some users brought it up....Halo 5 is not in the December chart NOR in this, all year chart. It got outsold for the year by, usually, smaller franchises like MK, Star Wars, Fallout and a CoD from he previous year. Yes, the previous year. With all that said...

Question: Is Halo dead? And what does this lukewarm reception by the fans say for the future of the franchise, if anything at all? What say you lemmings?

What exactly is wrong with that list? No game on that list could be considered straight up bad.

You mad no Wii U games charted?

With the exception of GTA5, which was truly a good game (from 2013), none of those games is exactly good either. And that's coming from a Fallout fan bro.

Also 2 CoD's. Why. Just why.

This has always been the norm to NA, not that I care. I buy what I like and see but Madden, COD, or any sports games isn't one of them.

Meh I'm not surprised. You have to consider system wars people is made up of gamers who have eclectic tastes in games. When I talk to most people who aren't hardcore gamers like myself or the people on here they primarily stick to those games, including Destiny despite that being a last year release. I mean the common thread among all of those game is they are pick up and playable, and don't feature much of a story. Fallout 4, GTA V (who honestly plays this for the story) and MKX are the only ones with a half decent story on this list.

. Not all are great, but all of those games reviewed well enough. With the exception of Battlefront all the other games scored in the 80's or higher on Metacritic.

What's so crappy about those games? Because a lot are annual installments of franchises that have been around for a long time?

Some of you guys sound like hipsters. "Mainstream games are so lame."

I enjoy some of those games myself, but year after year it's full of crap like Call of Duty, Fifa, Madden, Assassin's Creed etc.

How do you expect the game industry to grow properly and expand with nothing but annual franchises from the big three? For the most part, they are lame. They're shallow, casual, lack originality, and are tired and used up.

Europe charts would be the same except Fifa would be #1 and Madden would be replaced with some racing game like NFS. Japan would be filled with pop idol crap.

A bit funny, sure, but not surprising. The days of the best games also consistently being chart toppers are long behind us. Our little hobby has gone full on mainstream (I don't mean this in the condescending sniper sense).

All of those games are very accessible and they're not bad games by any stretch. We all have sticks up our asses because we've experienced better games, or have grown tired of some of those experiences, but to most people that stuff is a blast to play.

For someone who claims to be a long time gamer, you seem to know little about what's available if you think there's only bro games and indies to choose from.

Ha, is this a serious question man? I could fill out that list twice over with good 2015 games. Of course it wouldn't matter because it's all preference, you would make sure to reiterate that, then proceed to chop away at the games I list. No point, right?

And please don't quote me as saying objectively because I surely didn't.

You're just being disingenuous here man, while trying to twist what I'm saying.

I don't care what games charted. And I do understand full well why those games did chart, as noted in my post.

The most popular things aren't always the best things. Games, movies, music, it's all the same. But as long as people are entertained, who cares?

Witcher 3 and MGS V deserved to make the top 10 sales for the year. Neither is exclusive and both are amazing and accessible games. But you can't make people buy something so it is what it is.

Mainstream games sell the best. Such a heart-stopping revelation.

This isn't exclusive to video games, but instead every entertainment medium. Shit taste? Maybe. But it's honestly no worse than some of the top fives I've seen around here.

In short, that high horse? Get off it.

Still not far enough in Fallout 4 to say much about it, but Star Wars: Battlefront and GTAV are awesome.

Shame about Halo 5 not reaching the same heights anymore. It's a pretty great game and I need more time with the multiplayer.

That paints a pretty shitty picture of what to expect 5 years from now, more rehashes with less content and gameplay designed around selling microtransactions.

So if someone likes Star Wars more than Citizen Kane does that mean they have shitty taste in movies?

Lastly, just one final note and I'm finished with my thoughts on this topic.

If you look at all those games they all have one thing in common. They are all pickup and play experiences with instant gratification. None of those games require extended playing sessions to get enjoyment out of them. People have jobs/families, so obviously they have limited time to play games, so of course those games are gonna chart before a MGS V or Witcher 3 would.

Dreams, Bloodborne, Gravity Rush 2, The Last Guardian, Detroit Become Human, NieR Automata, Star Ocean 5, Persona 5, Final Fantasy XV, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Mirror's Edge. I'm seeing lots of outside of the box games that are not indies.

Why isn't that logic applied to games?

Why are mainstream games frowned upon when they constantly chart, yet you don't see people crying foul that Star Wars the Force Awakens has become the most successful Blockbuster in the US.

I'm not shitting on those games man. And I don't believe that other games deserve to sell better. Do I think there were better games released in 2015? Hell yes. But I completely, without a doubt, understand why those games performed so well.

You're trying to bait me into posting a list so that you can tear it down, I get it. Then we get to go round and round in a battle of opinions, awesome.

Assumption is a mother. I'm not trying to bait you. I'm just curious what some of you guys consider "superior" taste in gaming. Its really that simple. Just give me a list of your top 5 favorite games of 2015.

OK, but my question is why is everyone making that out to be a negative quality? Since when is simplistic fun a bad thing?

OP specifically said, "Murica has awful taste". So if you like simple games that don't require a lot of dedication then you have awful taste?

@emgesp: Because gamers have a stick up their ass? They can't stomach the thought of people liking something that they don't like personally.

Assumption is a mother. I'm not trying to bait you. I'm just curious what some of you guys consider "superior" taste in gaming. Its really that simple. Just give me a list of your top 5 favorite games of 2015.

Yes, it truly is. Which is what the entirety of your responses to me have been predicated upon. You keep on quoting "objectively", "inferior", "superior" and shit like that, trying to goad me into taking some dick head stance for you to argue against.

I made my views on this clear in my first post. Everything you needed to know about my thoughts on the subject was right there. The 2015 games that I personally view as better games have no bearing on this.

I'm just trying make a point that people need to stop acting like snobby Hipsters who think that everyone who doesn't like the same games as they do have inferior tastes in gaming.

OK, but my question is why is everyone making that out to be a negative quality? Since when is simplistic fun a bad thing?

OP specifically said, "Murica has awful taste". So if you like simple games that don't require a lot of dedication then you have awful taste?

Did I say being accessible is a negative quality?

Did I say simplistic and fun are bad?

Did I create the topic title?

No, no, and no.

I like plenty of simple and fun games btw. I wouldn't be a fan of platformers, nor would I enjoy Nintendo games if not.

Yes, I see that you're desperately trying to make this point, you're as transparent as can be which is why I'm not giving into your little game here.

You want me to look like a "snobby Hipster" and act like I'm shitting on what other people like. I get that bro.

You just singled out the wrong guy.

This is my original post. See how much you've tried to twist it?

A bit funny, sure, but not surprising. The days of the best games also consistently being chart toppers are long behind us. Our little hobby has gone full on mainstream (I don't mean this in the condescending sniper sense).

All of those games are very accessible and they're not bad games by any stretch. We all have sticks up our asses because we've experienced better games, or have grown tired of some of those experiences, but to most people that stuff is a blast to play.

@ConanTheStoner

Sorry for misunderstanding your OP, but a lot of people have been constantly ragging on people's tastes in gaming based on what's charting and its just gotten to the point where I needed to say something.

Not surprising. Majority of gamers in America are social gamers looking for quick pick up and play games online with friends.

Halo 5 question is grasping, not one single exclusive from Sony or MS made it. COD advanced warfare dumped on every Sony exclusive along with MS. COD series is like the pop culture icon (Taylor Swift Status) where as Halo 5 is obscure (Tool) but solid core.

Still not far enough in Fallout 4 to say much about it, but Star Wars: Battlefront and GTAV are awesome.

Shame about Halo 5 not reaching the same heights anymore. It's a pretty great game and I need more time with the multiplayer.

If the gameplay in Battlefront is remotely similar to the beta, it's mind-numbing :P Looks really pretty though! Resisted the urge to buy it when the movie came out, do not regret it one bit XD

Understood bro, and yes a lot of people do default to hater mode just because something is popular and sells well, I get that. That's just not me.

Will I shit on some peoples opinions of games? Sure! But only based on my opinions of the games quality, not how well it sells. I like discussing games and obviously that can lead to disagreements and debate, but it's all good.

There are smash hit AAA games I enjoy. There are obscure old school games and indie titles I enjoy. And everything in between.

This board has plenty of hipster twats, I'm just not the one lol.

It's not the worst game in the world, but yes, it's not even close to the original Battlefront games in terms of quality. I'm really curious about the DLC, as bad as that sounds though. Definitely won't buy it for $50 though. The game is beautiful, in many ways, and I've actually had some intense and fun battles, though that's mostly with Heroes vs. Villains, like the best mode evar.
