Ok my 360 just broke, but I managed to get it working again by using the wrapping it in the towels trick.  Just my question is, what should I do with it?  Should I get rid of it because who knows how long its gonna last, should I just get a new 360, or should I get a PS3?

send it to m$ for repairs.  if ur warranty is expired, i'd sell it to a used gamestore asap then buy an elite. if u dont want an elite and ur warranty is up, i believe repairs are only $130.

Yeah my warranty is expired, but I'm not sure if I wanna spend that kind of money to fix it up.  I should just trade it in and get a new one.

If you get a PS3, it's guaranteed not to break down on you.. but be prepared to wait for the good games to start coming out as there are only 2 worth buying right now (Motorstorm and RFOM) and there are some good multiplats still, they just lack in graphics compared to the 360 versions.

and if that XBOX 360 is still in the warrenty, get it repaired for free.. I doubt the towel trick is going to last forever.

Is it just me or are alot of 360s having problems.... i was at a console retail store last week and 3 ppl were in line demanding a refund! well.. i guess a refund is asking for too much but anyone have any idea what the hell makes the 360 so susceptible to these problems?

Yeah I know the trick won't last forever, that's why I'm trying to figure out what the best option would be.

If you like playing it, see if you can get a new one for it. If you don't, then sell it for another console. The only thing you should not do is keep it until it breaks down again.

funny how the font color your using is the xbox's signiture color yet you put the PS3 on a pedistle. To the topic did it even come to mind the maybe he had a xbox 360 because it has game that he wants. Using common sense(If you have any) buying a console that has nothing you want is a big wast of money. Not everyone MUST like what you like, if the industry was like that there will be no SW

If ur warranty expired, and you don't want to pay alot :@ for it to get repaired at Microsuck, try to repair it yourself, there are several methods that may restore your 360 life or even make it work like it should :@ arrgghh microsoft, my friend's xbox 360 just broke yesterday too :@, this issue is out of control, well, for you to repair your xbox 360 is not complicated, since the warranty expired, open the 360 change the thermal paste and use the erarser method, u should use the heat gun to get better results too, if my xbox brokes thats what im gonna do since there is no MS here in venezuela i would have to send it to usa, and that isn't cheap... I can't believe microsoft... 130$ of something that can be done easily (well with most 3 rings of death thats the method to follow), try checking the error the 360 shows first: turn it on holding both the sync button and the disc try button then watch the light sequence: 4 lights =0, 3= 3, 2= 2, 1= 1, so if it shows 4 lights , 1 light, 4 lights and 2 lights  (0102) it's a gpu problem thats most likely fixeable.

Well where else would I have asked?  If I asked in the 360 forums, they would say get another 360.  If I asked in the PS3 forums, they would've said to get a PS3.  Besides I think I made up my mind and am deciding to get another 360.  Thanks for all the help though.

You should really do this. Then when you hear about 360 not having anymore hardware problems then you should get another one. If you get another 360 now chances are it will just break it again.

Did you just listen to what you said. Why are going through all of this? You should have bought the 360 and not have ANY Hardware problems. TC just get a PS3. If you don't like that. Get a PSP or a DS. You need to wait until 360 doesn't have any hardware issues. This is what most sensible people are doing thats why 360 isn't selling well and still stuck around 10 million. By buying or getting anothe 360 your saying to Microsoft " Yeah Ill buy your expensive product that doesn't work so you can contine screwing me over and milking me for everything I have." Get a new 360 sell it and use that money to get another system.

You wrap it in a couple of towels while it's still on.  Keep it wrapped for about 45 minutes, then take the towels off, turn the 360 off and let it cool for a bit.  Turn it on about 20 minutes later, and it worked again for me.

You wrap it in a couple of towels while it's still on. Keep it wrapped for about 45 minutes, then take the towels off, turn the 360 off and let it cool for a bit. Turn it on about 20 minutes later, and it worked again for me.

From what I understand, the way this works is as follows: the 360 breaks when it gets too hot and the motherboard warps from the heat, so when you wrap it in towels you're intentionally making it so hot that you will hopefully melt it back into it's original shape. I guess some people have had success with this, but it sounds like very scary business to me.

My personal opinion: just get a system that doesn't overheat in the first place. :P

[QUOTE="-KinGz-"]If ur warranty expired, and you don't want to pay alot :@ for it to get repaired at Microsuck, try to repair it yourself, there are several methods that may restore your 360 life or even make it work like it should :@ arrgghh microsoft, my friend's xbox 360 just broke yesterday too :@, this issue is out of control, well, for you to repair your xbox 360 is not complicated, since the warranty expired, open the 360 change the thermal paste and use the erarser method, u should use the heat gun to get better results too, if my xbox brokes thats what im gonna do since there is no MS here in venezuela i would have to send it to usa, and that isn't cheap... I can't believe microsoft... 130$ of something that can be done easily (well with most 3 rings of death thats the method to follow), try checking the error the 360 shows first: turn it on holding both the sync button and the disc try button then watch the light sequence: 4 lights =0, 3= 3, 2= 2, 1= 1, so if it shows 4 lights , 1 light, 4 lights and 2 lights (0102) it's a gpu problem thats most likely fixeable.Silvereign

I di, did you cared to read my post? if your warranty expired you just can make it work like it should be in first place yourself saving money and time with microsuck.

[QUOTE="sonicare"]What is the wrapping it in towels trick? Never heard of that one.Timstuff

From what I understand it's the crappy thermal paste :@ and the tomel trick doesn't work forever, you are just damaging more your 360, if the problem is 0102 is very possible for you to fix it, it's not high cience nor complicated stuff either.

I wasn't sure what to do when mine broke. I considered getting my money back, but then I would have wasted my money on the games and getting Live. In the end, I got another.

Step by step

1.)Post on system wars instead of doing the sensible thing and go straight to Xbox.com technical support or have a glance through your booklet for a telephone number just to get fanboys stirred up about the 360 and its reliability.
