[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]All Nintendo consoles have had countless superb gaming experiences. None have been disappointing.Blackbond

Not a console. Not a portable either. It is just some superdeformed hybrid nightmare machine that gave gamers blinding headaches with all the red! I think the developer hit the sauce too hard when he thought up this idea...

N64 launched with only 2 games...SM64 and Pilotwings 64.
3rd parties abandoned N64 left and right.
Super Mario Kart 64 is the worst of the Mario Karts.
F-Zero X was not nearly as good as F-Zero GX for Gamecube.
Castlevania games were terrible on N64.
No Metroid on N64.
Donkey Kong 64 considered by many to be far worse than DKC on SNES.
Long droughts between games.
Square abandoned N64 because of the cartridge format. Therefore, no Final Fantasy games on N64.
N64 games cost more than PlayStation games.
The N64 controller was weird looking, like a deformed claw. It wasn't the most comfortable controller. Certain games required the Expansion Pak, which you had to pay extra for. Majora's Mask is considered one of the most disappointing Zeldas ever by many gamers. Doom 64 is the worst Doom version ever seen period.
Audio on N64 sucked because of the limited storage for the cartridge format. Limited FMV was used as well (could be considered good or bad depending on your viewpoint)
N64 began the trend of only have ONE Mario platformer per console.
N64 RPGs very scarce.
Without 1st party and RARE, N64 would have been a complete disaster.

[QUOTE="VGobbsesser"][QUOTE="AvIdGaMeR444"] Nintendo also had more 1st party titles on GameCube than N64 as well. AvIdGaMeR444
And that was Gamecube's ultimate flaw.
Having great 1st party games is a flaw?
No.The Gamecube was only kept alive because of the first party support.Frankly,it shouldn't be a good thing when a console has to depend on just first party games to survive. It did have some good first party games, but the Gamecube was really too dependent on first party games for its own good.
N64 had a load of great games, but on most lists I only see the same 6 or 7 games (SM64, OoT, MM, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo games, with some variants). And the release dates between those games were way too large. Only in retrospect was N64 really amazing.
However, I do disagree with the TC in some ways. Doom 64 was absolutely NOT the worst version of Doom. Actually, it's hard to even call it a separate version of Doom, considering it had all new sprites, levels, and a new weapon. And even so, Doom on the 3DO is definitely the worst version of Doom. The soundtrack kicks ass in that game, but the rest of it is nearly unplayable. And the N64 didn't have many RPGs, but it had Paper Mario, which was amazing, and easily beats out the Gamecube sequel. Finally, I personally saw Majora's Mask to be the best Zelda.

If we are making a simple and broad statement like that, you have to say the virtual boy was the worst...But, if I had to compare the n64 with the other home consoles, then I would prob say the GC was the worst, just by the fact that the nes and snes were so freakin awesome in their time and the N64 had some top notch games for its time.
Dont forget Killer Instinct, Conkers Bad Fury Day, Blast Corps(fun in its own right), Ken Griffey Baseball and Ken Griffey Slugfest, Star Fox 64, some of the Mortal Kombats for the N64(remember Ultra 64???).
Not to mention it introduced rumble... the biggest leap in gaming controllers.Pro_wrestler
Except for the fact that rumble was terrible on the n64, yes we all want external power supplies to power our rumble.
N64 launched with only 2 games...SM64 and Pilotwings 64. And they both were great games...
3rd parties abandoned N64 left and right. But Nintendo proved that they could still make an awesome console with great games...
Super Mario Kart 64 is the worst of the Mario Karts... if you don't have the patience to get used to the difficulty. If you do, Super Circuit is the worst.
F-Zero X was not nearly as good as F-Zero GX for Gamecube. But something had to come first, right?
Castlevania games were terrible on N64. And did anyone care? I didn't think so.
No Metroid on N64, one of the few regrettable things about the system.
Donkey Kong 64 considered by many to be not as good as DKC on SNES. What was everyone expecting? DKC was a classic well before DK64 came out.
Long droughts between games. That issue was small, however, because the games were usually so massive that by the time you finished one of them, the other one is already out.
Square abandoned N64 because of the cartridge format. Therefore, no Final Fantasy games on N64, but who cares? Did Nintendo really need Final Fantasy VII when it had The Legend of Zelda: OOT?
N64 games cost more than PlayStation games, because you get what you pay for.

N54 rocked, a lot better than GC.
It delivered some of the best Nintendo 1st party games and...
RARE
which is enough reason for it to trump the gamecube
SCHWAA?!?!?!?!?!
N64 had:
Zelda: OOT
Zelda: MM
Mario 64
Ogre Battle 64
Mario Kart 64
Super Smash Bros.
DK64
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Starfox 64
Jet Force Gemini
Many of those games I still play to this day. The N64 absolutely PWNED the PS1, I don't care what anyone says.

Quoted for TRUTH! I did like Spyro, but other than that the PS1 had nothing.
The only Nintendo hardware that was a dissapontment was.
GBC - When we wanted Gameboy in Color we also ment more power to not just graphics.
VB - As an owner it had the software, but seriously my neck and eyes
GC - With an exception of Metroid Prime 1, Twilight Princess, and Super Smash Bros. No game lived up to "Nintendo" quality.

I agree. Virtual Boy is Nintendo's most disappointing system. N64 was in no way a disappointment.

I'm not talking about FPS. I'm talking about "shooters". You know, like Ikaruga.
I said N64 had 1 great Zelda game...that would be OoT. I don't consider Majora's Mask to be great IMO.
I said in my original post that without 1st party titles and RARE titles, N64 would have been in trouble. I was basically saying that 1st party and RARE titles were great.
GC had more games than N64. That was what I said.
I don't think I would've become a gamer if it wasn't for that system.IAmRodyle
Yeah, same with me. I had the SNES, but I didn't play it that much at a "hardcore level" nor did I have most of the good games that it was known for. But with the N64, I found myself playing games more and more.

The_AI
Daily dose of anti-Nintendo thread from Avidgamer has been turned upside-down.
I never said SM64 and Pilotwings 64 weren't great games ...I said N64 launched with 2 games. This is a fact.
Super Circuit might be the worst HANDHELD Mario Kart. I'm talking about console Mario Karts. Mario Kart 64 is the worst one. Did it deserve the ultra low 6.4 rating from GameSpot? No. But the rubber band AI was very cheap. I had no problems with the difficulty though. I just thought the tracks weren't as fun as in other Mario Karts.
When I mention F-Zero X...You said "Something had to come first." Well, the 1st F-Zero was on SNES actually, and that to me was even better than F-Zero X.
When I mention Castlevania games on N64 you said "Did anyone care?" Well, I did. Castlevania 1 and 3 were amazing on NES. Castlevania IV was great on SNES. The N64 version flopped and had bad camera angles.
You asked about DK64 "What was everyone expecting?" I expected a polished game from RARE. All the other RARE games were amazing on N64, so I expected the same here. GameSpot rated this game WAY TOO HIGH. It was a massive disappointment on the same level as Perfect Dark Zero.
On my "long drought" statement, your rebuttal sounds like damage control to me. Spin it anyway you like, long droughts are not good. SNES and NES b4 N64 never had this problem. It began on N64, so I wasn't used to "game droughts". Thank you N64!!!
When I said N64 games cost more than PlayStation games you said "You get what you pay for". There were plenty of bad N64 games that cost more than bad/good PlayStation games. In fact EVERY N64 game cost more. The "quality, not quantity" mantra never sat well with me during the N64 era, because there were plenty of BAD N64 games. It was a sham.
N64 controller wasn't as comfortable as PlayStation controller.
In regards to MM...You say "true Nintendo fans consider it to be amazing." I am a true "Zelda fan" and I think otherwise. Adding a time-clock to an adventure title was the worst idea Nintendo ever had. Yes, I know you can slow down the clock. Whoopy! I don't like the 3 day method. I didn't like having to save at the stupid statues. I don't mind a time clock for a racer, but for a large, 3D adventure title, this is just unforgivable IMO. Also, MM only had 4 dungeons. That to me is lame.
You say..."most of the available RPGS are great". Name a few then. I admit I forgot to mention Paper Mario. What else is there on N64?
I mentioned there was only ONE mario platformer. Your response..."But that also put the focus on other games". This sounds like damage control once again. NES had 3 mario platformers and many other 1st party titles. SNES had 2 mario platformers and many other 1st party titles. Nintendo always has focus on other games. Doesn't mean that they should only have ONE Mario platformer per console. Your reasoning is flawed.
N64 > gamecube, I stand by that till this day.
And yes, Rare did rock the house.
T005dragon
Second'd. While the N64 had some crap, it has games that nothing on the Gamecube will top, even if there were more "good" titles on the Cube, there were more "amazing" titles on the 64. However the lack of Metroid is lame.
