I think a lot of people here don't understand the word revolutionary. Just because a game refined something, like Gears with the cover system, doesn't mean they revolutionized anything. Only one I can think of THIS GEN, is Little Big Planet.incuensuocha

Thats a weird thing to say about gears if you choose LBP instead. If gears only refined it, then LBP only refined mods/user created console. Mods/user created content has been done on pc for ages now.

Yeah. It has a name. That name is Vanquish.

To say that there has been a shooter better than Vanquish is a blatant lie. It takes the elements started in games like Resident Evil 4, Gears of War and Max Payne and then introduces the single greatest mechanic that a shooter has ever needed: boosting. My gawrd. I don't know how many games let you get into cover, light a cigarette, toss it to distract enemies, boost while shooting them in slow motion, then quickly switching to your sniper rifle, and slow-motion sniping an enemy out of a vehicle all while hundreds of heat-seeking missiles are aimed squarely at you.

Vanquish. Vanquish. Vanquish. Vanquish. Vanquish!

DragonfireXZ95

Slow motion sniping? Meh.

Ah, to be a non-believer. I can lead a horse to water but I can't make it drink. I offer you knowledge of the greatest shooter and you deprive yourself. :P

Also, somebody said Vanquish's influence will be very small. That person has never played a game that LETS YOU ROCKETSLIDE! Oh man. When I first beat Vanquish and then I tried to play Black Ops I was so shocked at how slow and unintuitive the game felt in comparison. Vanquish is still new and fresh, but it's going to have an influence, game developers aren't stupid..... so whoever you are guy. This paragraph is dedicated to you. And stuff. :P

Uh-huh. Keep on preaching that whole "people don't understand revolution." The rest of us will be having a discussion about games either "revolutionized or evolved a genre." Because evolution and revolution are two completely different things but since we can talk about both this becomes a very broad discussion topic. I mentioned Vanquish and while it isn't a revolutionary game it is the game that will evolve the shooter genre.

And Mirror's Edge also evolved the platformer genre nicely, so there's that one too.

I am suprised the METAL GEAR series wasnt mentioned cause if you look at it,its the only game that doesnt look like another game and no other game is trying to be like it

EXACTLY. It revolutionized the stealth action genre. The Octocamo, the Mk II, CQC and cinematic sequences defined it.
