Compare to MS or Nintendo... Sony has copied achievements, has jumped on the generic/soldier/FPS genre with Resistance and KZ2, basically did their own Wii mote knockoff, comming out with their own version of mario kart. I would say LBP is innovative but level editors in games has been done before. I primarily use my PS3 as a Blu-ray player which I don't see as an innovation.

Can swap out the hard drive for any off the shelf one. I dont remember any other consoles allowing that. Blue tooth too I guess.

Most console 'innovations' are either taken from earlier consoles, or PC gaming.

I wouldn't be holding Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo up too highly as paragons of invention.

Neither company innovated anything. They simply took existing ideas, and implemented them in a different way that had been done before.

The "Play. Create. Share." concept applied to consoles is pretty cool. Usually, that level of user creation and distribution was reserved for PC games.

For the life of me, when exactly did Nintendo announce the wii mote? Think I watch a vid today with the creater of the eyetoy using the motion glow controller or early stages of that idea back in like 2000 atleast no later than 2004.

Also wasn't there racing games prior to mario cart?

Ms upgraded to a more fancy XMB

MS stole the wii tars

And the point of this thread was what again?

Sixaxis is pretty neat - motion control built into a conventional controller. Neat because it doesn't throw out decades of ergonomic design like the Wiimote does, and rather works motion controls into traditional control schemes. While it is neat and innovative (though I stand to be corrected - was this done before?), it was *completely* underused... And I daresay, botched.

Well, the extensive use of motion sensing was something I hadn't seen before this generation came about in the video game industry (console-wise).

Is it really considered innovative to do something that's just the blatantly obvious evolution of an existing technology that would have happened pretty soon whether they'd done it or not, and was already common in other forms of electronics? I mean, it's not like *everyone* didn't see this coming, and laptops and other tech items have had built in wifi for years.

Are you serious? Innovation is what advances the industry, keeps it fresh and exciting. Without innovation, we're still stuck in the 8-bit era or before it.

All those things you brought up TC is why we have competition, without it no one would strive to outdo the other and we as gamers would have nothing. This gives companys incentive to improve and make things better. I dont call it copying, its called improving or being inspired by another company to sell product based on there ideas incorperated with theres. You want innovation the Cell is the definition of the word.

User generated content is hardly new. Even this gen Halo 3 had forge first. That's not mentioning PC's, which has had user generated content for lord knows how long - I know I was building extremely complex levels in the early 90's.
