naughty dog vs rockstar games: who is the king of gaming?

These two think we can all agree all at the top of the best game developers. One developer has the uncharted series and the last of us and the other pfft we all know what game they have, grand theft auto 5 and red dead redemption, rockstar games.

To me, i have to go with naughty dog, all there games are gorgeous and the stories are so enriching and not to mention strong female characters like Elena Fisher and Ellie.

Rockstar is easy pick for me. They seems to be able to do a wide range of games.

@iandizion713: i agree on u with that. rockstar makes fun open world games where gamers have fun. Naughty dog creates excellent cinamic gaming experience that few can do so well. But one thing i hate bout rockstar is they dont have a memorable female character like naughty creates like with Elena and Ellie.

Naught dog as I like their kind of experience more. Although rockstar is as amazing studio as naughty too

Nintendo

The only Rockstar games I've legitimately liked were Bully and LA Noire. On the other hand I enjoy playing the Uncharted series, The Last of Us is great, and Daxter was a fun game on the PSP. So Naughty Dog without a doubt.

But really, they make two entirely different types of games. I can respect what Rockstar does with their open worlds even if I find the actual playing them part really boring.

Edit- I think Ready at Dawn made Daxter actually. Also Midnight Club was rad. Still like Naughty Dog better, but I guess it's a little closer than it was before.

Naughty Dog as of recently. GTA 5 was complete garbage for a GTA game. Also RDR I thought was very overrated. I am interested what Rockstar will do with their franchises, especially GTA 6, as that series needs some serious changes imo.

Neither, i know it's shocking, but nowhere near as shocking as someone called thelastofusfanboy89 picking Naughty Dog, now that's trully shocking :P

No we absolutely cannot all agree that these two are at the top of the best game developers. They may be two of the most successful but people have different tastes. For me they wouldn't even make my top 10. From active developers I would probably put Obsidian or InXile or Larian studios at the top.

However if you want to talk popularity and general quality of games produced I would argue Blizzard has them both beat easily.

To answer your question, of the two I prefer Naughty Dog. I have played exactly two Rockstar games. One was GTA4 that I thoroughly disliked and never finished and the second was Max Payne 3 which was ok as an on the rails shooter but really botched the Max Payne licence.

Also lol I just now read this part. I think if people around here took a vote Valve or Blizzard would probably come out on top, with Naughty Dog and Rockstar further down the list.

Well i'm leaning towards Sega, no one made better games than Sega, and the only one to get close was Nintendo, close but never overtook :)

Rockstar by far. Even though Gta IV, Red dead redemption, La noire and max payne 3 were garbage GTA V/ gta online is my favorite game of all time. San andreas and vice city also.

When it comes to naughty dog I really love uncharted 2 and 3, especially uncharted 2

what are you trying to prove here? GTA5 is successful af, not their fault lol. With GTA5, they're in the same boat as Steam with their 'Steam', they don't need to release games when their 'Steam' is this successful. Now, Rockstar isn't Steam and their GTA5 isn't, nor will ever be printing as much money as Steam so they'll have to release new games (which they're next year). But GTA5 online certainly allowed them to be on the back burner for a while. So calm your tits.

I was the person who kept saying that it will be released on ps4 from the day the game launched. Saw it coming from a mile while everyone in here were telling me otherwise. It makes zero sense to not released a game like that on the newer consoles...

Yes there were (smart) people who knew they would release it, but they said they wouldn't, and the reason was to not harm 360/PS3 sales, and them bam there where PS4/XB1 versions of the game, and gamers ( mostly stupid) ones went and bought it again.

What i'm trying to say that no dev no matter who they are are above milking their fanbase in one way or another, some are just more discreet about it than others, but make no mistake R* has done it's fair share of milking with GTA V.

Rockstar knows how to create original IPs that involve open worlds, and they do really well at it.

Naughty Dog on the other hand has a lot of platform games, lots of jumping and climbing, and cinematic.

Neither of them are even in the Top 5. Hell, maybe one of them might make it into the Top 10.

They are indeed not the best but Rockstar wins this battle by a country mile.

If we had to rank them then R* would be above ND, but both wouldn't be in the top 5

id Software is current king of gaming.

GTA its clear, it sells insane amounts of copy's on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Isn't limited towards one platform and its a cult hype in general with all kinds of ages people.

There is a reason why it sells so much. Uncharted series sadly doesn't even come close towards it. And sales reflect that.

If you are a casual gamer then yes.

ND is indeed amazing, but not Rockstar, Bethesda and CDPR level of amazing.

Retro Studios outdoes them both on a regular basis. I'd also say Rocksteady has outdone them both consistently as well.

Naughty Dog misses far more than they hit and their hits aren't all that great.

Rockstar is solid, but again, they don't hit the highs of other developers IMO.

Other than on PS1 or PS2, I haven't really played any recent ND games, but it's apples and oranges for me.....Rockstar is basically in a category of their own. They have something that not many other devs have, which is an insane amount of resources . Their games have massive budgets and large teams, and that is one of the reasons they are able to produce massive AAA games like GTA.

Of course they are not known just for their man power, but their artistic skills as well and the 2 combined produce games on a scale that not many other devs can compete with. ND may have solid artistic skills, but they lack the kind of resources that Rockstar has. So no matter how good their games turn out, they will most likely not have the same scope as a Rockstar game. And that goes for 99% of the other devs basically, to me Rockstar are in their own category they created.

Although very simple follow the line, go to X, Rockstar makes games.

Rockstar games are pretty damn boring to me. From those two, ND for sure.

Not sure about king, but between the two, Rockstar by far. They make better games that simply sell a lot better. Uncharted games are much prettier though, production values are great, but that's about all there is there.

I'd pick neither of those, I'd pick the Nintendo that made Link to the Past and Super Metroid.

But between those two, I'd go Rockstar. I appreciate that they're revisiting an ip rather than going right to GTA6. They've also made it clear they haven't forgotten about Bully, as it's gotten a digital release os PS4, just became backwards compatible on Xbox One, and got a release on phones earlier this month. Been hoping for a Bully 2 for a while now, might be getting close!

Neither. Nintendo is the king of gaming. Neither of these developers has a body of work that can match what Nintendo has produced. The volume of excellent games that these two have produced is just a small fraction compared to the volume of excellent games that Nintendo has produced, neither of these two have revolutionized gaming as much as Nintendo has done, and neither of these two have produced great games in as many different genres as Nintendo.

If I had to pick between these two, I would go with Naughty Dog. The only Rockstar game that I love is Red Dead Redemption and I think a lot of the love that I have for it has to do with the setting. The rest of their games feel like a chore for me to play.

Neither of them are king, but Naughty Dog for my money actually makes good video games from time to time.

Personally out of personal taste more than anything im more into Naughty dogs games but hell , GTA5 and i bet RDR 2 .. arg. Nasty

Only Mario main series manages to stay in top notch form and considered "king" material imho. What else ?

Now if we gonna talk in general like who did more for gaming since 80s or something etc , yes you can call Nintendo king of gaming but the last decade or a bit more ... if it wasnt for Mario Galaxy games , pff.

What was excellent and/or revolutionary aside Galaxy games ? Its really difficult to even mention a second. Thats far from king dont you think?
