He literally put the quote in the post. You doing ok today?

Quote, as in quoting Sataya and/or MS literally calling itself the Netflix of games. I can't believe I have to explain this.

Call me when the mass market ditches streaming subscription services and goes back to buying physical media en mass.. The market has spoken.. If a company fails at that effort, another company will step up.. #capitalism

also, unlike Netflix, services like Game Pass and PS Now/+ still offer the option to buy their content at retail price.. An option that the majority of gamers still utilize..

@Pedro: The words that come after Nadella’s name, are his words… “our goal is to be able to have essentially a Netflix for games,” are some of those words…

We are now at the part where the Lems have an issue with what the Xbox execs are saying…

Provide the quote from Nadella. That is all I am asking. Very simple request.

EDIT: I read the first two paragraphs from the link, not realizing the actual quote was segmented below. My bad. The actual full quote from Nadella

I would say from a Gaming perspective, one of the bigger changes that has happened in the last, I would say, couple of years is one, of course the vibrancy of the Xbox Live network across the PC and the console and now increasingly even on the phone because of titles like Minecraft. And once you have the network, you have plenty of different opportunities. In particular, we now have a subscription offer with Game Pass that's off to a good, very good start and our goal is to be able to have essentially a Netflix for games, so that we can have the game subscriptions that people can use across all of the devices that they play in.

The other area is streaming. As you know, there is game playing and game watching and there is secular growth on both fronts. And we feel very, very good about the engagement increases in a pretty unique value proposition we have in Mixer. So that's another opportunity that we believe will shape in addition to things like e-sports and so on.

@Antwan3K: You missed the posts that show you CAN buy Netflix original content in physical form.

And this Netflix story isn’t saying Netflix is dying. It’s instead saying that Netflix is exploring other ways to make more money and have more visibility for their top end content. And removing that content from Netflix day 1, is what they are looking to explore. It relates to Game Pass and their day 1 content on the service. It‘s now not really working for Netflix. PS+ isn’t doing it either. Folks have been saying day 1 games in Game Pass doesn’t make the most business sense. Netflix is basically saying that same thing with their content now…

It is worth noting that games on the game subs are never locked to the service at anytime. The same is not for Netflix. Netflix content, eventually becomes purchasable and it is select content.

The direction gaming is going, is games as service. That is where the most money is made and it will continue to be where most of the money is made. It is why Sony is investing billions in that direction. How long will MS supply day 1 games ?🤷🏽‍♂️ But, it is a major selling point. It is not and will never be my concern on how they are making money from this move. If it is not sustainable, they will change. Until then, gamers should reap the benefits in the same way they have with Epic free games.

I agree with this.

My stance of day 1 games, and the Game Pass model being the best way to grow the Xbox brand was never from the standpoint of the consumers. Hell yeah, get your games for cheap. I’m a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber. It would be silly not to be. But while I sure as hell enjoy playing the big Xbox titles day 1 on the service, it never made sense to me from a business standpoint. That’s where that “concern“, begins and ends. It’s been a fun ride with that stuff here on SW, but once I leave this page, I’m not spending a second of thought on it.

If that has been your angle then there is no issue on my end. I don't care about the finances of these companies....well Sony I care a tad about since I have some stocks.😅 But, my view is that they are ALWAYS going to find a way to exploit the end user, My job is to take advantage of whatever they are throwing my way in their attempts to exploit. I am agnostic in my "take advantage of a company" approach.😎

Now, I am off to gaming.

Apart from the fact that Netflix keep raising their prices and while gas and other living costs are going up, people are deciding not to renew their subscriptions. I cancelled mine when Netflix put their costs up to £10 a month. It's not worth it for what they have.

Netflix is trying to expand while losing subs, which is something they can't afford.

Nice try somehow making this about Gamepass. :-S

Exactly, TC has some sort of weird hate boner for Gamepass. It's not really worth going round in circles over and over. Everytime Netflix have an issue, it's somehow MSs problem. This is a really superficial comparison, doesn't take a deep dive into any of the underlying problems of Netflix. I don't even see the comparison apart from the the fact it's a streaming service.

While Nintendo and Sony are sitting back saying, “I told you all we had to do was give it time.”

You guys are very short sighted. Only seeing what's happening now. MS has spent a long time building Gamepass and they have a lot more to do before they even look at it like that.

Nintendo and Sony's problem is that they "are sitting back". They have their own problems.

Netflix already had one of the worst bitrates, but they made them even lower during Covid and never increased them back after.

Meaning every movie I watch on Netflix looks like The Lego movie, that's how blocky they look.

Absolute shit service and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Get your movies on Bluray and 4K bluray for best quality.

@goldenelementxl: Fall of subscription services..not really. Netflix still have more than 200 million active subscribers. Disney has added many subscribers over just a few years.

Subscription was always ther, it just was cable tv for some content. Now it is streaming and much cheaper. At least compared to paying for tv channels.

@R4gn4r0k: mayyyybe you are being a tad dramatic here ehh?

That being said, maybe if Netflix wants to stop losing money they should stop throwing 600 million dollars after generic shitty action movies like Red Notice and instead focus their effort on putting out more quality shows!

Hm ,i do not know. The thing about game pass is it drives customers to the Xbox eco system or Xbox brand or Xbox products. So Xbox Game Pass is actually great for Microsoft in the bigger picture, the bigger scheme of things, even though they might make more money on some titles like Halo Infinite (in the short term) if they were not on Game Pass on day one.

Didn't Netflix have this same exact idea years ago but it was so their films could be up for major awards which have the requirement of a theatrical release only to have theater chains snub them because they wouldn't follow a normal release schedule nor would they commit to everything releasing in theaters which left them releasing films in a few theaters and arguing with award groups that they qualified...

I'm sure this time theater chains will be totally on board.

I didn't like the content. It was mostly Netflix content, which didn't interest me. And then they increased the price for that.

It's been some time since I had it, I didn't have those bitrate issues in the UK from what I remember, myself. It's unfortunate. If I remember though, they make you pay more and more just for quality settings. 1080p, 4K, surround sound (maybe unless that was a Sky streaming service). So to keep costs down there's an option for sub HD. Thanks Netflix, assholes. Digital streamed video sub 720p as you said looks like shit, it's less watchable than DVDs, shouldn't make sense but it is. They shouldn't even have been offering that.

There's already a pretty big difference between GP and Netflix. Every game released there is also for sale in multiple platforms and formats. So unless you're expecting MS to release them on cinemas too I don't quite follow the logic for this thread.

Also, with first party titles MS often releases an early and more expensive version and a few days after comes to GP along with regular sale versions.

Which to me, as a Gamepass subscriber, I'm fine with. Release it early on PlayStation too, I don't mind having others banking for my gaming habits. I'll play my 4 to 6 monthly games and others are free to pay full price for each game. Everybody's happy that way.

Next he will tell us how streaming music will also die. 😂😂😂🤪🤪🤪🤡🤡🤡

This thread is based on a really loose connection of "Netflix problem's are everyone's problems who stream". And the cows are using this as a legit thing to circle jerk about.

But I'm not seeing other movie streaming services make these claims even... But somehow we make the quantum leap to game streaming services. :-S

Also if this is a problem, would it not be subscription costs and the saturation of video streaming services, before we blame the business model. There is SO many video streaming services competing, surely every man and their dog saw this coming. Also, if the business model didn't work, why have so many joined it, not even including music streaming services.

Yet somehow TC is having this is come back to Gamepass, very prematurely and saying "While Nintendo and Sony are sitting back saying, “I told you all we had to do was give it time.”".

This is not a legit argument at all.

How do you know? A 2 trillion dollar company might have a better idea about business. You don't think MS has made the considerations you're concerned about probably in an immensely detailed, and exhaustively researched report? You think on a whim, they were like "hey, I know what would be a good idea...".

Also, why have so many adopted the business model then? You made the comparison to video streaming, so why have SO many joined the video streaming business model if it didn't work? I can't even name them all, then there's music streaming etc.

How many have to adopt the business model before you start to maybe consider there's something to it?

Also I don't believe you when you say, "That’s where that “concern“, begins and ends.", because it doesn't. Last time when you thought it was working, you were claiming "when/if Netflix launch a gaming service, Gamepass won't be able to compete". You're issue is clearly with MS and Gamepass. You've been coming at this from too many angles, as soon as subs drop for a quarter which happens to all services, when one streaming service has difficulties, when a service could become a competitor...

Sometimes, these big corporations are just wrong. It happens all the time. Don’t you think Netflix had done their due diligence with their market research? Perhaps if Netflix stopped raising their prices they would not have lost so many subscribers. There is a breaking point for what a person is willing to pay for services, before they will look for alternative measures.

typical dumb golden thread lol. Its sad you're still hating on netflix, even though its been around since 2008. Let it go dude, its been 14 years already. Now you're bashing gamepass using netflix as an excuse, even though netflix is profitable, and pulling in billion dollars in profits. Thats pretty good.

still hasn’t brought up a single thing that MSoft and Netflix have in common. Nothing but deflection.

Nothing but deflection and quotes of Xbox and Microsoft execs calling Game Pass the “Netflix for games.”

Ask Pedro, he’ll show you the quotes…

@blaznwiipspman1: Netflix was successful on the backs of external investors propping the service up. Since they’ve become financially independent, they’ve raised prices, gone after password sharing, are implementing ads and exploring pulling their big budget titles off the service during its launch period. But you’re right, it’s nothing but sunshine and rainbows over there at Netflix. And look at HBO max. Nothing but success over there too…

We are about to see these streaming services resemble the cable networks they set out to replace… Now why would they do that?🤔

its funny you bring up cable companies. Now that I think about it, cable tv is also a subscription service isn't it? Its amazing how much cable tv SCAMMED the shit out of their customers by using ads even though customers were paying for the channels. Netflix didn't implement ads all this time for their paying customers, and the cost of netflix is a fraction of cable tv. I guess this is why competition is always good.

Netflix can have ads, but they will face pushback from subscribers moving to disney plus and other services. End of the day, the services will each compete with each other to push the best customer experience. Free market is amazing isn't it?? Compared to the monopoly of the cable tv, which for some reason you love so much, netflix and other streaming services are far better.

Tell us what the two companies have in common that makes GamePass not viable?

Tell me where I said Game Pads wasn’t viable…

I’m not sure who or what you think you’re trying to debate, but it’s clearly not anything said in this thread…

@blaznwiipspman1: Netflix hasn’t implemented ads to this point because they didn’t have to. For the hundredth time, Netflix was receiving external funding in addition to subscription revenue until recently. But now, in a move to correct their revenue and content woes, Netflix is basically turning their subscription service into a cable channel.

“Pushback” from consumers is meaningless unless it’s followed by monetary losses. Netflix is experiencing that now… And we can start talking about the music industry if you want, but that shit has been in shambles for many years at this point. You have artists like T-Pain, Joe Budden, Post Malone, Danny Brown, Logic and others making more money in Podcasting and Twitch streaming than they could making music. Music is an example of the worst case scenario as far as the quality and amount of content offered are concerned

AAA games and Hollywood blockbusters can cost Hundreds of millions of dollars to make, of course you're going to have to charge a premium to cover the losses at first.

People in the industry have been saying this and xbots wouldn't hear it. "Teh gamepuzz is teh best deal in gamesz!"
