grew up on pc in the early 90s, stayed with it to this day, only buying a gamecube in 2002. Also had a NES in the house, didn't play it much. I won't be buying another console.

@cainetao11: very nice. I'm surprised I haven't seen turbo grafix 16, or neo spoken off. Also only @pelvist and myself had an Atari jaguar. The first "64bit" system.
I remember being in AWE of the NEO GEO when it was out. Way out of my money range.
@cainetao11: yeah same here. I was lucky enough to have a friend (well friends since they were twins) who's father owned the system. HUGE cartridges and I only got to play some war game. Think it was called Nam or something like that. Wonder if that system is worth money now...

@njricand: meh,why would I value my life in believing they could do online capability in the first place,it's not like I have the urge to have friends there, instead I only have trust in NNID/NFC or a potential PSN...whenever i think of xboxes,I can only imagine the pain I could face through their exclusive games I will never enjoy no matter what, verdict is I have no respect for xboxes since the beginning,if you need to know what my official video game research paperwork looks like,if I happen to mention it there,I don't hesitate to put a censor. This is a proof that I am a "sheepow" not a "lemmit".
I started gaming on the NES and I've owned every console produced by Nintendo, Sega, Sony, and Microsoft since then except for the Master System.
My early gaming history goes something like this, in chronological order:
...Out of those, the Sega Master System had the biggest impact on me as a gamer.
Started gaming on arcades followed by the Atari 2600/2600 Jr. during the early 80's.
Started computer gaming with a Commodore C-128. Got onboard the Amiga bandwagon from 1986 to 1995 (A500, A2000HD, A1200)
Bought a Nintendo Entertainment System
Got a Tandy 1000SX which was my first PC experience. Not impressed.
Got a SNES followed by the 3DO in 1993. Got myself a Sega game Gear.
Assembled my first DIY PC in 1992. From that point on, I always have a gaming PC.
PS1 followed by N64.
PS2 followed by NGC for the kids. I also bought a PSP 1000 back in 2006. Bought my first laptop in 2003.
PS3 and Wii
No next-gen console yet. My current gaming PC and gaming laptop are in their mid-life stage.
Those old ass consoles before the NES > NES > SNES > N64 & PS1 & Dreamcast > PS2/Xbox/Gamecube/PC > PS3/360/PC > PS4/PC
@Cloud_imperium: think you'll ever own another console?
I plan to pick up PS4 and Xbox One few years later if there are enough good exclusives on them. Right now I'm interested in Quantum Break and Uncharted 4. Need more games.
Started off on PC, then I noticed it doesn't get any 10/10 exclusives nor a recent GOTY exclusive, so I switched to consoles, where the best of the best gaming can be found.
It's a shame you are missing out on games you could enjoy, based soley on other people's opinions on what they rate a certain game.
I currently own, NES, Genesis, Sega CD, 32X, SNES, Neo Geo, 3DO, Saturn, Virtual Boy, PS1, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, PS3, Wii, 360, Wii U, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
My 1st console was a NES in the late 80's.
Been gaming since the 2600 era. Love all games, all systems. I abhor fanboys.
So naturally you come to System Wars.
There's actually a lot of decent discussion here if you sift out the trolls. Besides, its good for lulz, and I often hear about gaming news here before anywhere else.
I've also had a couple of PCs that I've used for gaming, but not purpose-build gaming PCs. My first PC was a Windows 3.1.1. I've been nothing but happy with my Sony consoles and I've never been a fan of Microsoft's business practices, so I avoid their products whenever possible.

This board is NeoGaf on a 6 hour delay.
I like getting ZenLight all rustled up as he complains to the mods
he has a sick Profile Pic though.
Not really. Anime is ghey.
My first console was the Sega Master System... then moved on to PS1 (my love of gaming really started with PS1). From there (in order of purchase): PS2, Gamecube, Xbox (Xbox became my favourite of that gen). Then I bought my first gaming PC, which became my main system for a few years. Then I went back to consoles with Xbox 360, Wii, PS3 (PS3 was my main that gen because of RRoD!!)
Then went back to PC for a couple of years, but missed the simplicity of consoles so I bought a PS4 at launch. But I wasn't happy with PS4, so XB1 became my main console. Also had a Wii U at one stage, but that didn't last long.
As for handhelds, I've never really been a big fan... but having said that, I really loved my Gameboy Color & then my Advance SP, back in the day.
Started off as a PC gamer on Turing machine in 1936 , then I noticed it doesn't get any 10/10 exclusives nor a recent GOTY exclusive, so I switched to consoles, where the best of the best gaming can be found.
Sega Master System
Best games ever played on that console. Seriously they need to remake these games!
Super Nintendo
Was all about Mario & Street Fighter for me!
Sony PlayStation
This is where the new generation started for me. The amount of beat em up games were awesome!
Sony PlayStation 2
Same the vast amount of games this had with regards to beat em ups! Also not to forget GETAWAY!
Microsoft Xbox
Never got it. Preferred my PS2
Microsoft Xbox 360
Got this instead of PS3. This is what started the multiplayer gaming with party chat for me, family and friends!
Microsoft Xbox One
Biggest pile of crap I ever purchased. As of today it's still a piece of crap. Dashboard awful and everything just slow and backwards. You evolve not go back to BC era! Microsoft should have been awarded for guinness world record for bringing back the VCR era from the past. First party franchise are dying eg Halo, Gears of War. Majority of the developers are going PS4.
Sony PlayStation 4
Continuing from PS2 LOL. Great console and slowly getting my favourite games! This console just puts shame towards the Xbox One. Looking forward to Shadow of the Beast, Tekken vs Street Fighter (will be exclusive to PS4 I guess), Guilty Gear XRD, Uncharted 4, Uncharted Collection, Last of Us 2, Gran Turismo 7,
FUTURE
Nintendo NX
I will be getting this for Super Mario and Pokemon!
Microsoft Xbox II
They will do everything and anything to win back gamers however will flop by making a stupid decision not to include DVD drive and believe in the digital market. Will NOT be purchasing this crap.
Sony PlayStation 5
Domination with more powerful hardware and maybe huge backwards compatibility including PS1/PS2/PS4?. This I will get!
Intellivision, Atari 2600, Apple IIe, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PlayStation,...................Windows 98 PC(VIA 2Ghz), etc, etc, Windows 10(i7 4.6GHz\8GB 290X).
i remember the Neo-Geo, CD-i, and the 3DO being out when I was pretty much done with gaming for a few years there. they had some amazing games, too bad those powerful systems didn't do very well in sales. imagine it was the crazy prices that held them back. when i got back on PC i found emulators and ROMs for a lot of those. is still awesome to get exact replicas of some of those great arcade games that were around at the time and some of their exclusive masterpieces that never got much acclaim.

@elessarGObonzo: yeah those systems where way to expensive and back then, video games were mainly a kids hobbie so it was hard to convince your parents to shell out. Don't remember to much about cd-I but i do remember it
Started playing in the Arcades and continue it until mid 1990's I believe. The only console I ever owned was Sega Genesis then in the late 90's I was bought a PC and have been happily gaming on it exclusively ever since.
Atari 2600 - around 1987 ( my very first experience with video games at 5 years old )
Atari ST - around 1989 ( was a "PC" based system like Amiga was my uncle bought and i had really fun with it since the jump from ATARI 2600 games was huge to me as a kiddo )
Nintendo Gameboy - around 1990 ( for a while , wasnt mine , i really liked Mario and Tetris on the system but the lack of color made ATARI ST my preferable system )
Arcades - around 1991 ( that was the big step which made me a serious gamer. My fathers friend opened an arcade and i was lurking inside daily playing games like Street Fighter 2 , Raiden , Ms.Pacman , SunSet Riders , Tetris , Snow bros , Mortal Kombat , Street Hoop , etc and later on many 3D hits like Tekken , Virtua Fighter , Sega Rally up to late 90s which sadly it closed. )
Sega Genesis - 1993 ( The first "serious" console i ever owned ! Sooo much fun with Sonic series , Streets of rage series , Shining Force and many more . Had a blast
Sony Playstation - 1994 ( The first console i had an eye on before its release and bought DAY 1 ... What can i say about this console ? First of all it had my favorite games from arcades ... Tekken , MK3 to name few ... Then it introduced me to so many great and different experiences ( genres wise ) that i couldnt even think were possible outside of arcades and became a hardcore fan ( metal gear solid , Final Fantasy series , Resident Evil series , Crash Bandicoot and many more )
SEGA DREAMCAST - 1999 ( The best console ever made , games wise , period. Not only i could play some of my favorite arcades games on my couch but also DC was offering so unique games for its time compared to competition .. it was a ridiculous situation actually)
PC - 1999 ( even if i bought PC mainly for 1 game , counter Strike ... i got soooo much fun with several of PC games actually that i instantly became a fan. Diablo 2 , Counter Strike , Half life , Warcraft and many more .... PC gaming was my first online experience and because of it competitive nature , something i was really into it from arcades , i could stop playing competitive/multiplayer/online games since then and the main reason why i was starting losing my interested on consoles later on ) . The last 10 years PC is my primary system by far.
Sony Playstation 2 - 2001 ( Not much to say here , one of the best consoles of all time for a reason , had a blast once again )
* Had fun with but never played ALOT or OWNED them
- Nintendo 64 --> Mario64/Killer Instict/Zelda OoT
- GameCube --> RE:remake / RE:zero / RE4 / Zelda Ww / Paper mario
- Game gear / SNES / 3DO / PsP
In order.. With some of the games I liked the most.
Atari 2600 - loved a game called Alien Brigade, which was a bit like Operation Wolf back in the day.
Gameboy - first discovered Zelda, which got me hooked on the series ever since.
Nes - only ever played Mario 3 and Zelda
Megadrive - Streets of Rage 1 & 2, still play them a lot these days
Snes - wanted Street Fighter 2 so much and still love it to this day. I remember the jump from 3 buttons to 6 being quite a thing back then.
Playstation - demo discs, wipeout, Ff 7&9 and metal gear solid!
Sega Saturn - got this for £10 and had it for the arcade games like Sega Rally, Virtua Cop and Virtua Fighter.
N64 - spent many hours getting trashed and playng 4 player golden eye.
Had a pc that could play the latest games but hardly used it. I had King Pin and am Alien demo
Playstation 2 - More metal gear, various wrestling games and shadow of the colossus.
PSP - bought for wipeout, sold within a few months
xbox - played lots of halo and first started online gaming. Its where I first played half life 2, despite it being terrible compared to pc version.
Xbox 360 - loved gears of war, had some great times with the 360 but all 3 of my consoles ended up in a skip due to RROD and warranty bit being valid.
Playstation 3 - wanted metal gear solid 4, got hooked on street fighter 4, still play various games on my ps3 now and again.
PC - bought this in 2012 but upgraded the graphics card last month. Since bring my PC I've not really find back to console gaming until...
WiiU - which I bought for Bayonetta 2 and Zelda games. I've ended up with quite a lot of games for this.
Vita - bought when I was ill and wanted something to do in bed. Actually got this before the wiiu
Nintendo 3DS - wanted Zelda link between worlds
That's all of it, just a brief rundown of games, I'm had a many many more. Good times with all consoles!! Except PSP I guess.
First game I played was Galaga arcade at a bowling alley around 1980 or 81. I begged my parents for a atari but they said it was too expensive. I use to go over my neighbors house and play atari. My uncle had a intellevision and I would play it at my grandparents house.
First system I owned was a nes my grandparents got it for me for xmas.
I got a gameboy for xmas and traded it to a friend for a genesis.
I then got a turbografx for xmas and traded it for a some drugs.
I got a snes when it came out and had to trade a bunch of stuff in at a pawn shop to get it.
I got a n64 the day it came out
After being brainwashed by constant final fantasy 7 commercials I got a PS1.
I bought a gamecube the day it released but returned it for a xbox.
I later traded in my xbox for a gamecube when metroid prime was released.
I then bought a ps2.
Then I bought a PS3. I was giong to buy a xbox 360 but the red ring of death scared me away.
I bought a xbox 360 slim in the last year of life span.
I bought a WiiU and a PS4 6 months later.
The end.
First games:
First games that started me on the path to a now 24 year gaming career:
Platforms I've owned and operated since, in as best "acquired order" as I can remember:
Consoles acquired well after release:
Platform(s) I play mostly now:
My gaming started when I was a young child. My parents gave me a NES bundled with Super Mario Bros. 3 as a gift. Years later they gifted me a Sega Genesis. Years later, a PS1, Years later, a PS2. As a adult I purchased a 360 because L4D looked awesome. Met some gaming buds by playing L4D and they all migrated to PC, so I traded my 360 for a friends PC. That PC died and now I play on a crappy laptop and am saving for a PC build.
We don't care about your gaming history.
And we don't care, that you don't care. lol!! Why even post if you don't care?
I'm not going to go through my whole history as it's way to long. I started out with text adventure games and monochrome monitor games back in the late 70's, early 80's. Don't know how many gamers remember the old Star Trek game with the grid quadrants. Serious old school. After that it was Pong, Space Wars, "X" & "O" football games and I've been a diehard gamer ever since. Over 35years of gaming. I've owned at least 75% of the game consoles made since the 3rd generation. Always been a true gamer.
Sega Saturn - 1997 (Birthday Present - 7 years old)
I remember getting games like Sonic Jam and Virtua Cop 2.
PC - 1997 (Shortly after Saturn I think)
Some guy my mums friend knew sold it to us. It was a gaming PC and came with games pre-installed on it. I remember it coming with Blood, Shadow Warrior, Duke Nukem 3D and Mass Destruction.
Gameboy (Not sure what year, but got it on Holiday)
I saw it in a shop and asked my mum to get me it. It came with Super Mario Land and some other Mario game.
Sega Dreamcast - 1999 (Xmas present)
I got Toy Commander, Soul Calibur, Sonic Adventure and House of the Dead 2 (with lightgun)
Playstation 2 - 2001 (Xmas present)
I got Robot Wars, Timesplitters, Crazy Taxi, GTA 3 and Rayman M.
Gameboy Advance - 2002 (I think)
We were away on holiday, but our plane was delayed so my mum bought me one with a game called Creatures to pass the time.
PC - 2001/2 (Second PC)
Bought it from a shop on the high street. It came with a ton of game discs...
Gamecube - 2003 (Mum asked if I wanted one for Xmas)
I got Godzilla, Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Mega Collection with it.
Gameboy Advance SP (2004)
Saw it in a shop while on holiday and asked my mum to buy me it.
Nintendo DS - 2005 (Random purchase)
I was bored one day and jumped on a bus to the shops to buy one. I got Super Mario 64 DS with it.
Playstation Portable - 2005 (My bday gift to myself)
I was wanting this for ages. Had it on pre-order and I got Ridge Racer! with it.
Xbox 360 - 2005 (My xmas gift to myself)
I wanted to be the first out of my friends to get a next-gen system. Sadly I was also the first to get RROD. I got Quake 4 and Call of Duty 2 with it.
Nintendo DS Lite - 2006
It was such a large improvement, I had to buy it.
Nintendo Wii - 2006 (Xmas gift to myself)
Motion controls! I got Zelda Twlight Princess and Red Steel with it.
PC - 2007 (I decided to treat myself in January to a new PC)
Just a treat for myself. Got it from PC World.
PC - 2008 (Treated myself to a proper gaming PC)
I was sick of having my X360's breaking all the time and decided to get a good PC. This was my second proper gaming PC. Bought it from Overclockers.
Nintendo 3DS - 2011
It was a new Nintendo handheld, so I decided that I would buy it when it was released. Which was a waste of money thinking back now. I paid £230 for the system and £30 for Rayman 3D and £30 for Ridge Racer 3D(Which was terrible compared the amazing PSP version). It's basically been used for just over 200 hours since launch.
PC - 2011 and onwards
Just been upgrading my PC and monitors every now and then. It's only main system now.
Video games weren't an interest to me wen i was young, i remember sometimes playing Super Street Fighter II in the arcades, but that's about it. It became a hobby wen i got into Counter Strike around 2006, thanks to the internet cafe and a group of colleagues that i used to play with a lot of times in the evening after work. I often reminisce about that and become melancholic because, God, life was far easier 10 years ago.
Soon after, i discovered an endless uncharted territory that to this day i still wander. Over time i owned an SNES, Sega Mega Drive, N64, Dreamcast, Playstation 2, Playstation, Xbox 360, Sega Saturn, Nintendo Wii, DS, PSP, OG Xbox, and a Gamecube. I collected extensively for each of these systems, proudly keeping games that i enjoyed on my shelf.
Currently, i have a Wii, a PSP and a desktop PC. I sold everything els.
Started off as a PC gamer on Turing machine in 1936 , then I noticed it doesn't get any 10/10 exclusives nor a recent GOTY exclusive, so I switched to consoles, where the best of the best gaming can be found.
cool you were playing games that required miles of paper tape for each title. must've been hard to create save states. which research center let you in just to play games?
not too many 80+ year olds gaming, your grandkids must be proud.
My earliest gaming memory is Burger Time on the coleko vision (i believe) and leisure suit Larry on PC. Getting into the game involved memorizing all the startup questions to prove you were an adult (or a young kid with a good memory).
2600 through present day.
Owned all major consoles except a dreamcast... Wiiu and xone. (though I'll get an xone within a year)
Dabbled with pc gaming, but I'm still not sure I'm a fan of pc as my main gaming device. I just don't care to put a nice rig together anymore. The uptick in power as compared to my free time to game just don't warrant the investment.
Handheld are meh... Except for the vita which I adore and game on moreso than even my ps4.
I've been debating games since the super nintendo/Genesis days, when I was junior high/high school age... Always loved hearing people's opinions on why/what they like to game.
Thus.... System wars.
