**NEW** Mass Effect Vids ...sweet

i just watch them all. it is so dark you can't see a thing you see the top of the vehicle and that it of course they can have good graphics because the areas you can see look good. i swinting to see what was going on. is these vidoes off a tv or a live feed because the darkness of the games is to much. even when they go out side it is dark. i hope there are levels that are in the sun or something. you guys can see what is go in on though tell the truth.GARRYTH

looks great n all but the pause screen is unbalanced imo cos of the fact that you can look around during it, i mean you pause, and you can look around, count the enemies see where they are for as long as you want without them doing anything.

also in one vid i saw there was an enemy at the back of the player ready to strike, the player paused, looked a bit around to see where are all the enemeis and saw that one guy at his back, and then he just shot him (if you lets say turn from left to right during the pause, then you unpause you will still at the right instead of going back to left)

conculsion from above, i don't think that pause menu is a good idea (maybe they'll fix it)

vandalvideo. it only does that if you want them to use their special powers. they said there's another mode that plays out just like GRAW.

I don't know about the Gamespot review, but go watch the Gametrailers review and you will hear it. They say that while you can learn new combos, a couple basics will work just fine. In fact, you can just button mash as long as you are in the right stance (5 minutes into the review they say it, if you don't believe me).

Didnt NOBODY not notice at the end of the 1st vid the pilot called the commander a "he" when the person playing the game was actually playing as a girl.

I hope that gets fixed, i would be intrested playing the game over again as a woman and that kinda takes away the immersion.

Thank you, for the first breath of sanity in this thread. Yes, the game looks good. Yes, the characters look great. Yes, if you are into RPGs, this game looks right up your alley.

But, to me, it looks so friggin' slow. Seriously, I like weapon changes on the fly, like real life. Instead, with Mass Effect, you get this "pause" every time you go to change weapons or make commands. And when that pause occurs, the bad-guys freeze in their current state. What? To me, this would get very old and very boring.

Will Mass Effect be a big title for the 360? Yes, as long as their install base consists of RPG lovers. But thgis game is not for the masses. This game will not be enjoyed by most gamers. Most gamers want to do things on the fly. Most want constant action. Mass Effect will not deliver those.

Not to mention, all we hear from lems is how great the 360 textures are. Well, they sure aren't demonstrated in this game. Other than the characters, the graphics are meh.

You guys can hate on this game all you want, it won't stop it from being epic on all accounts.

About the combat; it's not like you HAVE to pause it every single time. You'r squad members will act on their own, but it tough situations yea, you might have to select what powers they will use yourself. This was just a presentation, not to mention that once you know what each power does and were it's placed the moments you will have to pause the game will be much shorter.

And don't forget, this is a freaking rpg... if you want non-stop action, just buy something else... seriously. You don't complain about turn based rpgs but you complain about this? Get real.

On to the dialogue... best in a game ever. Don't even need to explain why. And the options you can make varry a lot. Like in the gunpoint interrogation vid or the galaxy exploration vid when you are talking to that hollogram.

Right. And in all of the hours of gameplay in Mass Effect, non of it gets repetitive? Oh, there are many hours of gameplay in Oblivion but the game gets boring. Yes, you may be able to go to a new planet, but will that very so much from the others? Give me a break.

name one AAA RPG with amazing combat!? KOTOR....no, FFXII.....no, Fable....no, Baldurs Gate 2....no, FFVII....no

RPG's arent about combat, they are about immersion and atmosphere

Interesting you brought up history. You see, back on Feb 9th 2004, Final Fantasy CC scored 8.0 on GC. On Oct. 28th 2003, Final Fantasy XI scored 8.2 on PC. November 18th 2003, X-2 scored 8.1 on PS2. Add a 8.2 for Tactics Advance on the GBA that same year.

Also that same year, Xbox fans got KOTOR, which scored a 9.1 and was Game Of The Year according to many industry watchers. Even the follow up, 2004's KOTOR 2, while not as critically acclaimed scored a 8.5 (which is still higher than all the Final Fantasy games released during said period).

I guess you could just say "2003 and 2004 weren't good years for Square", though. Right?

Atm, this is the only game that makes me want a 360.

Pretty impressed with everything I saw, except for the facial expressions. It wasn't so much that they were bad, it's just that in comparison to everything else they were bad.

Otherwise it seems to have some high production values, and I'm hoping this game will be good.

THANK YOU SE, for making people think that all RPGs have to be turn-based and involve swords and mana. Mass Effect is as much of an RPG as the Final Fantasy series, sans people waiting to be attacked/attack.

Good point, but I think I have the counter-arguement.

Taking Halo for example, you don't really learn much about the character from the game (though you do in the books of course). It is not so much about the character in any of those.

Take a game like Jade Empie, and you learn everything about that character from the time you were born, everything about the world around you, and your role in it.

Umm you aren't "role-playing" in the sense of the word related to gaming, as you can't make game effecting decisions. Think Dungeon and Dragons, where you create, grow, and explore with a character of your making. Modern RPG's are closer topen and paper now that you can have different endings, therefore more open and "role playing".That is the more definition of role playing, and of course no game yet can get close to pen and paper, but they are close if they meet the basics. But you are correct (in a twisted way)that the stories are starting to make you feel more attached to your character in some games, but they still have a set linearity as you don't make choices that effect your character on a profound level. Think Deus Ex, that is a true hybrid RPG.

Right. And in all of the hours of gameplay in Mass Effect, non of it gets repetitive? Oh, there are many hours of gameplay in Oblivion but the game gets boring. Yes, you may be able to go to a new planet, but will that very so much from the others? Give me a break.

Unlike many people on these forums, I avoid criticizing length. If a game is only meant to last 5 hours, then that's how long it should be. I'd much rather play a 5 hour game of fantastic pacing then a drawn-out 70 hour game almost entirely comprised of filler content. I'm sorry that, from I understand, you misunderstood my (perhaps unclear) argument.

THANK YOU SE, for making people think that all RPGs have to be turn-based and involve swords and mana. Mass Effect is as much of an RPG as the Final Fantasy series, sans people waiting to be attacked/attack.

Good point, but I think I have the counter-arguement.

Taking Halo for example, you don't really learn much about the character from the game (though you do in the books of course). It is not so much about the character in any of those.

Take a game like Jade Empie, and you learn everything about that character from the time you were born, everything about the world around you, and your role in it.

yeah you do, you learn loads about master cheif. like how he never has to go to the bathroom.

not all rpg's have to be turn based, but if it was an rpg, he wouldn't be aiming a gun, you would use a command and tell him to shoot the gun at which guy. otherwise, it's just a strategy game.
