Ok, it looks interesting, I enjoyed gothic 2 and 3 a lot (after they were patched). I just hope the experience is smooth right away, and not destroyed by endless amounts of bugs. I can deal with a certain level of gameplay bugs when a game like this is released, but please, whoever the publisher is, give the developer enough time to at least deliver a playable experience!

Various sites.

Have said they have the Beta build and haven't run into bugs yet.

Well they've been in Beta stage since July ish.

So hopefully it should have miminal bugs.

I think it looks pretty cool. I was also wondering why there wasn't any hype for this when I read the article about the ban in Australia.

Gothic3 even on release day, in it's unplayable state was far better than Two Worlds. Pyranha are easily among the very best wRPG developers around today

I'd bet heavily that you've never played Fable II.... or at least not longer than 10 min.

Actually, I completed the full game ;)

The screenshots alone tells me I wouldn't be interested in this game.

I'm tired of the steriotypical RPG game world, how about a little variation from developers?

Those screens make the combat system look like Gothic 3's. Which is why I'm not hyping this game. Gothic 3's combat system was absolutely awful in ever single way, I have no interest in playing through another game which uses it.

This is by Pirhrana bytes yes?

Yah

Spiritual successor to Gothic 3?

Kind of since JoWood owns the rights to the Gothic Series.

I'm interested, pity its *banned in my damn country*

Thanks flawed ****fication board.

kings574

Import it!!

Yup thats right, they are developing Arcadia - 'a gothic tale' or something along those lines).

Banned? the heck why? Whats so bad about the game? Which country is this anyway?

Back to topic : If its made by the old devs of Gothic 1/2, then thats just awesome! I hope it is as good as G1/G2 were, if not better.

Knowing Piranha Bytes though, their games are...usually a lil...buggy. But its usually overshadowed by the awesome storyline/world/gameplay.

mirgamer

Australia - our ratings system here only goes as far as 15+ for video games, rather than 18+ like films.

Right now any sign of change is messed up in a bureaucratic cluster ****, and the ratings board is extremely inconsistent in judging video games.

There are so many ways developers could spice up a fantasy theme, take Arcanum for example. Based in the days of steam engines and blimps but also with fantasy races and magic, something simple like that can make a steriotypical fantasy more interesting but developers just aren't willing anymore.

Errr, it's a fantasy RPG.

Maybe they should put it in Killzone or Gears environments. The masses would flock to it.

same here it does look generic but then again maybe we judge it too early by those pics only

I am kind of getting tiered of almost everyone setting their RPGs in a fantasy world. It is kind of sad that RPGs are so synonymous with fantasy settings. This is the main reason I am more excited about Alpha Protocol than any other RPG coming out , hell I will take an RPG set in the Killzone or Gears invironment over more fantasy RPGs.

Well, we recently had Fallout 3 which, although not a new-idea (it is the third in a series after all, 4th if you count the game the original fallout spiritually successes), still does post-apocalyptic wastelands, something not many RPGs do. We have Borderlands coming out soon, with it's strange Western-Sci-Fi style, then Alpha Protocol with its Secret Agent theme. We are getting a lot of non-Fantasy RPGs these days. Someone needs to make an Ergo Proxy RPG though...

Borderlands is an FPS (on a side-note why don't we every get Fantasy FPS'), but I will give you fallout (although it plays like an FPS and was not to my taste). Add Mass Effect and we get about 1 non-Fantasy RPG about every year or so, while we get inundated by a number of fantasy RPGs every year.

exactly. fable 2? fable 2 is pretty far from generic, the graphics and art style are much more inspired then what i see in those pics up there. Risen looks horrendous, especially at this point in time.

Ahh, good man, Bio. I have been getting more hyped for this one as of late as well. In fact, trying to get more people on board is why I put this sig up. World of Risen is about the best source of info for this game. PB updates and posts regularly over there as well.

I have always thought that it looked like it could potentially be decent, but after digging up more info and footage I found that it is looking a hell of a lot better than I had thought. Not saying it is going to be a mega AAA hit, but I think it definitely will sneak up and suprise a lot of folks. Early hands on reports indicate that it is looking very solid as well. Yep, this one will be better than many believe.

The Gothic series was also kinda 'generic', but it rocked.

This looks very similar to their older games, which is certainly not a bad thing. I can't wait.

This game just got banned were I live.

Yeah I'm interested in the game. I'm interested in pretty much all WRPGs. We simply don't get enough of them. (Mass Effect, Oblivion, Two Worlds, Fallout 3) That's all we've gotten (I think) in 4 years and in the past 2 years only 1 of those came out. It's definitely time. Risen looks like a mixture of Two Worlds meets WoW with a little bit of Fable tossed in. If the storyline is halfway decent and the game is long, I'll pick it up.

Add in truckloads of blood and gore, a push button cover system, and shiny explosions and it'd sell millions.

Aye. I didn't even think of it because it was on PC. But it still came out about 2 years ago. I'm waiting for Dragon Age: Origins, ME 2, and a few other WRPGs to start shipping because we've had a drought lately.

The Witcher, Sacred 2, Gothic 3, Vampires The Masquerade: Bloodlines (Okay, that was 5 years, but still). And coming soon we have Borderlands, Alpha Protocol, Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 2. There is no shortage of WRPGs.

It looks nice, but I can easily see another generic looking WRPG that's as mediocre as Two Worlds, or something as unplayable and buggy as Gothic 3. They really need to stop posting screenshots of generic looking forest fantasy settings, becasue if you seen one, you've seen them all.

Sacred 2 is NOT a true WRPG. It's a diablo clone. An Action RPG. Much more similar to something like Fable than a true WRPG that's all about solid narrative, go anywhere do anything gameplay. Sacred 2 is not that (I own it and have put more than 30 hours into it. Love it. But it's not a WRPG in the sense of Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3). And again, talking about FUTURE games does not change the fact that we're currently in a WRPG shortage. Since Holiday '07 we've only gotten 1, maybe 2 WRPG in that time. Compare that to the number of FPS's, JRPG's, SPORTS games, just about any other genre. . .and yeah. You'll see WRPGs have been in a shortage.

The Witcher was within the past 4 years I think, was it not? II_Seraphim_II

I know it is not a true RPG, but neither is Fallout 3 or Elder Scrolls IV

Check online. I was able to get my copy of Sacred 2 for $30 and it looked brand new. If you like Diablo style, loot hog games then you'll love Sacred 2. Story is practically nonexistent (or so silly that you ignore it) for the first few hours, but I found about 15% into the campaign it got better. I also really liked the class specific quest (I'm playing as an Inquisitor) and it's been awesome the entire way through so far. 30 hours into the game I'm 67% finished with the story and level 37 and I haven't even played online once yet. I definitely think i've gotten my monies worth. But it is NOT a WRPG like I've been wanting.

Looks like Fable mixed with Oblivion. Two Worlds comes to mind. No thanks.

He looks like he has deep pockets? The dude is wearing what seems to be a burlap sack, I doubt he has enough money for "Lilly" here...

Anyway, yeah, Risen is looking pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but I'm interested nonetheless.

How is ES not a WRPG? Bethsedia and Bioware basically Pioneered WRPGs.
